Mission's: All npc corporation in the game have agents that you can run missions for, the agents are divided into divisions like accounting, public-relation, r&d, security and surveillance. All divisions give out mining, kill and courier missions, but an agent from security will give more kill missions then an agent from mining. Corporations are of different types, Caladri Navy - for an example - have more combat division's then Duvolle Laboratories and would be a good choice if you only like to do kill missions.
There is three levels of agents (soon five), you will most likely have to start with a lvl.1 agent of poor quality. Each mission completed gives a increase in standing towards the agent you are working for, the corporation, and one or two faction's. The standing needed for agents is either standing with the corporation or faction. So if you have 5 in standing with Caldari State you will be able to use all agents that works in a Caldari State corporation - not r&d agents since they require a personal corporation standing in addition. The standing gained towards the agent gives you a better effective quality for every natrual number you pass you gain +1 (so 3,1 = +3 to effective quality).
Let's say you want to start work for a big corporation with a research division since you want to start research at some later time. (See list 1.1 for corp's with r&d divisions)
Open people and places -> places [tab] - type in "Calari State". Should be one result press the blue I (information) -> corporation [tab]. There should be a full list of all Caldari State corporations - find Lai Dai on the list and open the Information Window -> Agent [tab]. Now it will show all divisions that Lai Dai have. Find a few agents that are available to you and use people and places search to find out which ones are not to far away.
When at the same station as your agent you can ask for a mission. When you have accepted it check you mission journal, you will now have an active mission in there. Look at it's information, it will tell you what to do and where to go, you can copy paste the destinations from mission text to your People and Places Window -> Places [tab] Search -> Station. When you brought the goods to it's final station you can "convo" the agent and tell that you have been successful.
You will see that you only have lvl.1 "low" quality agents available. This is due to your standing which is 0.0, if you train the social and connections skills. Connection gives a boost to standing, Social to the standing you receive with each mission completed.
(See World of Eve -> Organizations for full list of npc corporations)
Side notes:
Important missions gives a much higher standing/faction increase then normal mission's each agent has eight different important mission's to "choose" from. The higher the quality of the agent the more important mission's.
Implants are only given out by lvl.3 agents - for a list of which corp's give out what implants see this thread.
Doing kill missions will decrease you standing with other factions
Negotiation skill gives +5 to agents effective quality pr. lvl - increasing research points pr. day or rate of important mission and there by also implants.
In near future raising ones security status above five can only be done by running missions for Concord.
Doing research with an agent: Research gives out tech2 BPO (Blueprint originals) - when you start research with an agent you will get a daily amount of research points. Bpo's are given out like in a lottery, every research point is like a lottery ticket, the more research points you have the greater the chance of being the lucky one.
Quieting a research project with an agent to start with another agent or different field means loosing all the research points gained. There for research should only be started with a lvl.3 agent of high quality, since they give out more research points a day.
You will need science at lvl.5 and either Electronics, Engineering or Mechanics at lvl.5 in order to train the research skill. You need to have the same research skill as your agent - the higher his and your skill is there more research points per day. (see list. 1.2 for what type of bpo's the areas of research gives)
You can find information on research under your r&d agent - it now shows what bpo's are going to be given out in the field.
When you have started a research project with an agent - you will be given a daily mission. This mission will double your research points for the day, but it won't effect your standing if not doing it.
Side notes: Research Project Management skill gives +1 to number of research project you can have - the skill requires

Also, for more research points per day, you get more if you keep training he skill you are researching with, it only has to be the same as the agent to start researching.

connections -> raises standings by 0.4 * (10-standing) per level of the skill negotiations -> raises Effective Quality by 5 per level of the skill
Important missions are given out 4 to (20-standing with the agent) times. So to get a better chance at an important mission (and thus an implant), the connections skill is more important than negotiations.
The EQ of the agent will determine the height of the rewards, so negotations would be a good skill to train to up your rewards.
This ofcourse assumes that the agent system works as it should , which it doesn't seem to do for everyone. I'm not complaining though, my agent seems to have an abundance of mem implants

Question:
If i abort research of gallentean Starhip Engineering, will i loose the RP i already gained or can i for example come back later to this agent and continue the research? _______________________________________________________________ [ 2004.04.14 12:26:17 ] (combat) <color=0xffbbbb00>Your 250mm 'Scout' I Accelerator Cannon perfectly strikes Guardian Initiate, wrecking for 172.8 damage. |

Fantastic thread. Good work.

correction: you do NOT need to equal the R&D level of your agent. I tried it once, my agent had lvl3 and i had lvl2 and it worked, just very slow. The lvl of your agent is just a modifier for the rp/day ----------------------------------------------- Watch my leet everchanging dynamic signature \o/ http://www.games-on.nl/~cu2moro/evesigphp/icon.php?blaat=.GIF |

Yes correct - You only need to have the skill.

Training to get access to R&D agents at the moment forsaking other skills.
The info that you only need the skill not the same level was very useful.
I need another piece of intel as well: Do you need to have all the skills the R&D agent has or is it sufficient to have the one you aim at starting research in? If no, is there fields that need several skills?

Good one - missed that one. You choose a field to research, that research skill for that field is all you need to train.
But I did write skill and not skills in the walk through. But this should clarify it.

Main Research of Boundless is mechanical engineering!! Since some weeks are "no predictable BP¦s" at my agent. Can I hope for a change at the next weeks or shall I change the agent?

I was wondering how often the lotteries were held, is it like once a patch, a week....month and how many bpo's are given out. Plus I was wondering if you needed to stop the research once your skill in that area gets higher to get the bonus just like you have to with manufacturing and in lab slot stuff. Thanks

Only problem is that the skill has been in since day 1 and it does NOT seem to count as an R&D skill atm. Its also only rank 4 opposed to the other R&D skills at rank 5.
Ive got it al lvl 5 btw... Took most of the summer of 2003... Lol. That was when I still had faith that CCP would have priority on giving all of the possible starting skills meaning ASAP.

what exactly is ^2? i figured it out mine like this...
1+(38/100)*(4+3) = 1.38*7 = 9.66 dont seem right to me... and i have no idea what ^2 means... and my rps/day are about 67.

I am actually not sure what it is called in English, sqaure?
Formula: RP/day = Field multiplier*((1+(EQ of agent/100))*((My skill+His Skill)^2)) <=> Formula: RP/day = Field multiplier*((1+(EQ of agent/100))*((My skill+His Skill)(My skill+His Skill))
