I could not help but notice the incredible number of individuals who must have been so interested in EVE's political system, that they were driven to sign up for accounts just to vote for our CSM's. The smallest age bracket, the 0-30 day-ers was only around 40 votes out of being the largest group to vote this year, the number 1 bracket being the 30-250 day-ers ( http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=28529 ). Is CCP really ok with groups that have enough money, just buying 30 day accounts to rig these elections? Would it not make more sense to have a 6 month to year old character requirement (with no breaks in your subscription during that time leading up to the election) to at the very least cause the people who do this to REALLY have to pay out the ass to do it? |

Now that I read it. So? 85% of the voting population were greater than 250 days old. And Trebor most likely got the chunk of the <250 day old population considering how naive at Eve they are. Most of the Goon voting population pretty much are a lot of old school veterans. This crap comes up every year "Wah wah wah the people who care about eve and have multiple accounts have an unfair advantage at voting." |

it would be intresting to see what part of the under 250day group was between 30 and 51 days old though. as getting basicly a free account up to 51days old is a sure fire way to help some people bump there votes. CCP-áare full of words and no action. We will watch what they are doing, for now

Im afraid I see no evidence to point that these low age votes went to any particular candidate or were spread evenly accross all candidates. Without another set of stats showing what age the voters were for each candidate the argument is irrelevent. The main thing to look at is that possibly the CFC block voted as a unified element and actually care enough to vote at all, whereas everyone else just voted randomly if at all.
If you have a person from your faction/demographic, then generally that is who you will vote for, especially if that person has achieved many things in the past which benefit what you believe in. TBH i simply think that the CFC care more about the game than most other elements and are prepared to actively do something about it, and if hat means voting for someone from their own faction then that is what they will do. As a member of the cfc for just over a year of my 5 years in Eve, I can say that I have never been in a faction that cared more about the game itself and about its line members, right down to the 14 day old grunt on the front line.
I am not a sychophant, I have fought on every side since starting Eve, from hisec, to lowsec, to RA to the southern coalition of 2 years ago (I was in the invasion force attacking the NC/goons back then) and I have never met a friendlier, more helpful group, never a more organised group and certainly more fun group than the CFC is. If you play in an environment like that, then yes you will support them in elections if they are part of them.
I think there is your answer, it may not be the answer you want as most people WANT the cfc to be evil, nasty people who cheat at everything. You wont believe what I say because propoganda is powerful. The same as everyone esle believes that all teh tech isk is hoarded by teh leaders and RMT'd, we know it isnt, we get the benefits but you wont believe that becasue the masses tell you otherwise.
To be honest, we can muster thousands of people to vote easily, it is more likley that opponents used dodgy tactics to try and counter that ability. Why cheat when you simply dont need to? Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

You assume I am blaming the goons in this, when to be honest if I had voted it may have damn well been for Mittani. There is no way that this method of creating votes would ever be restricted to one candidate, that would be stupid to assume. My issue is that it IS happening, and should be fixed. You would have to assume that Mittani got 6000 of those 8000 less than 30 day votes, and that a very very large percentage of those votes were actually created for the sole purpose of voting for him for it to even have mattered. That is a ******* gigantic assumption (and anyone who believes it was that bad, should be lumped in with 9/11 truthers).
My point is that accounts ARE being created to solely prop up candidates, and it should be stopped. |

Means little without knowing what the total number of accounts at that age is. If anything the 2000 day group looks anomalous relative to its adjacent groups.
Which techniques are open to, say, Mittens that are not also available to the other higher profile CSM candidates? Buying new accounts can be done by all. |

And? Did anyone say otherwise? I know the Goons constantly get accused of everything, but that isn't the point of this thread at all. I am sure that a bunch of people do it, my point is that it is easy to stop, and should be stopped. |

I was trying not to assume anything, but you have to admit that it is easy to assume people are trying to accuse teh cfc of cheating. But anyway, I agree that if accounts are being created in order to vote then yes that is a very bad thing. I cant agree however with having to be in game for 6 months before you can vote, as it is your game just as much as a 9 year vets game.
It would be a very costly thing for anyone to try and do, think of teh cost of 6 or 8 thousand accounts being started just to vote, in isk that is 3.5 trillion isk or so? And in real life money would be like -ú100,000.00. Im not saying peopel arnt that stupid, but surely... Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

I should have clarified from the start. A lot of those accounts would be legit, and if it was spread across different candidates it is even more believable. It still would be a lot of ISK. |

with the buddy account thing the cost is nothing to get a 51 day alt, the plex is refunded to the person who invites the 'buddy'. setting voting to be a min of 3 months would be fair imo. CCP-áare full of words and no action. We will watch what they are doing, for now

Unless you know what the age breakdown is for the entire population you cannot claim that new accounts are overrepresented. If they are not overrepresented then there is no issue: who are you to say that a new player cannot have a say in the choice of community representative?
New accounts are likely be a largest group because, shock horror, new players are likely to be the biggest demographic (even if you ignore alts). All a player can do once they start playing the game is keep playing or leave; therefore, you expect to see a fall off in player numbers with age. To avoid a fall-off in the numbers with age you have to assume that fewer and fewer new players start playing the game over time.
This breakdown in the vote can be seen all the way back to the first CSM vote. |
