Field strips AND REASSEMBLES an AR 15 in under 60 seconds.
DAMN!
Not only is it impressive for any non-military trained person to be able to do it, but for an 11 year old girl to be able to, AND to handle the weapon properly after assembly is VERY impressive.
The fact that she resembles a young Emma Watson and the ultra cute "excited hand to mouth expression" after her father tells her how fast she went is just adorable icing on an impressive cake.
Enjoy! Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

You find a young girl taught the proper use, safety, and field strip techniques of firearms to be "disturbing"? Seems to me that learning how to properly use and respect firearms is preferable to quaking in the corner with fear about them.
This girl is obviously smart, focused, and dedicated to learn such a difficult skill at so young an age. I suspect that she will grow up to be a strong, independent and powerful woman someday. I have nothing but respect for a young person like this.

Meh, I know. I gotta stop feeding the trolls. What can I say, I can't stand to see people wrong on the Internet.
In regards to the video speed, snotr.com (who thought up THAT name anyway??) seems to have a few minor streaming issues. I've watched a few videos on that site, and they seem to be a tad inconsistent in streaming and playing, with occasional skips and whatnot that don't repeat when you replay the video.
I don't think the video source is sped up though. All the other movements (her hair moving, the cloth on the table moving when she bumps it, etc.) seem to be normal. I think she's just damn fast.

Heh.
Unfortunately, snotr.com doesn't have a link to the original creator or poster of the video. So I have no idea where this came from, or if her proud Papa has posted any more of her feats. (I'm assuming that is her father's voice in the background.)
A couple people (here and in the video comments) have suggested that because she didn't disassemble the stock it didn't count. But my understanding is that because the gun stock has no moving parts disassembling it doesn't count in a field strip. IE: It's not required and entirely optional, as the point of a field strip is to clean the mechanical parts of the weapon.
Any military or ex-military feel free to correct me if I am wrong on that one.

Forget that lets just lay down all things that can be used to kill and bow down to the new world order.

Not really, what you saw was it. Theres more to dis-assemble if you want but that's the basics for cleaning.
As for Simpler rifles theres plenty. On my Enfield .308 I just have to hold the trigger in and slide the bolt out and I can clean it. When finished I slide the bolt back in and it locks itself. |

It is not so much hard, but being able to do it as fast as possible. You do not want to have to do this in the field, but if you have to you want to be able to know what you are doing and be able to do it as fast as possible.
Others can speak better on the topic, but in the US military being the fastest tends to be a position to have bragging rights in your unit.
Yes there are rifles that are less complicated to disassemble.

The AR 15 is the semi-auto civilian version of the M16 Assault rifle used by the U.S. Military and other nations. It was a somewhat complex rifle and very advanced for it's time when originally built, but has since been overshadowed in both complexity and advancement in recent years. Neither the AR 15 or M16 are terribly easy to field strip and reassemble (although they are not the hardest either).
Generally, though, the ability to strip and reassemble one's firearm is a valuable and important skill taught by most (if not all) militaries around the world. Being able to rapidly strip and reassemble the weapon means that you can be back in the battle rapidly if your unit is attacked while you are servicing your firearm.
While it's easy to clean a rifle at home, when one is deployed for long periods of time it becomes necessary to clean and perform repairs on one's weapon without the luxury of a quiet home atmosphere.

It's understandable for you to think that since your kind tend to be afraid of your own shadow, so much to the point that your even banning knives as they are horrible weapons of destruction.
But as you can see even an 11 yo girl does not fear the firearm. She understands it and it's capabilities and accepts responsibility for it. She learned about it and how to properly use it.

1) Your use of the word NEED is somewhat suspicious. Need is in the eye of the beholder, or, in this case, the weapon holder.
2) In the U.S.A. we have a RIGHT to bear arms. That is, we are guaranteed the right by the Second Amendment to the Constitution to own, carry, and use firearms and other weapons.
3) For many Americans, using, collecting, and appreciating firearms is a part of the culture and a way of life. You may not understand it, but it IS part of our culture.
4) With the rise in gun violence and accidents due to poorly or untrained people recklessly wielding guns in anger, training a young person on the proper use and respect for firearms is an important thing. Particularly if one has a firearm in the home. There is NO substitute for proper training.
5) Guns are only as dangerous as the person using them. The earlier training to properly wield a firearm begins, the safer any firearms used by that person are.
6) The fact that you find this insane shows a complete lack of understanding of firearms and the culture surrounding their use. I suggest a few months of weekends spent at your local firing range under the instruction of a licensed trainer. That should clear that hysteria right up. The 'jew conspiracy' comment was entirely racist, and religious hate as well.
The fact is, it's all in how you are raised. I was raised to appreciate firearms for the destructive force they are. Not to be afraid of them, but to respect them. The subtle difference is that the potential to do horrible things are there. It's the same respect I have for a pitt bull, or a car, or a baseball bat.
However, I'm AFRAID of human beings. Because those are the true evil. They have proven through centuries of existence to be both ignorant and irrational. It's posters like yourself, and the comments you have just made, that is the true evil. People like you take as many lives or more with your evil and perverted propaganda, as any psychopath.
It's when someone who has no respect for weapons or life, some little 13 year old punk who thinks life is horrible and hates his father cause he has *gasp* yells at him, and decides to kill a slew of kids in his school?
Yeah, those are the ones you should be scared of. Not some 11 year old girl who's probably been trained to handle and respect a firearm, a lethal weapon and effective self-defense tool, from a very young age.
There's something to be said for good parenting, and removing naivety is about as good as parenting gets.

None of my guns have hurt anyone but me, I've had some hot, spent brass go down my shirt a few times. The AR-15 is an excellent, modern gun for target shooting and hunting, I intend to purchase an Armalite AR-10 for long range shooting and maybe to start hunting. Considering firearms like the AR-15 were used in less than one percent of firearms related crimes (most firearms related crime is felon on felon violence) prior to the 1994 ban, I'd say they're less dangerous than say a concealable revolver. You can spot the man carrying a rifle a mile away, but the pistol in a pocket is not so easy to see.

I'd still call it impressive, not that learning how to use a firearm is impressive even to older people, but that she has such talent in memorization and mechanical logic makes it impressive. If she were to go into the armed forces one day, I'd rather have her protecting me then having a gun in my own hands. I'm sure she will find something better suited for her talents though, like the sciences or engineering, shes got a better mind than the challenge a gun brings against it.

Whats with you people and combining meat popsicles and rifles? That is really disturbing.
Not to mention the fact that you don't give credit to a childs ability to learn something.
Also for the record, as has been pointed out several times, I am the owner of a AK-47, also made for killing people. I have fired several thousand rounds from this rifle, and have yet to kill a single person. Who knows, maybe I'm doing it wrong.
And I too have held much larger weapons, but have also failed to kill people with them. Maybe it's my gun safety training. Nah, that's crazy talk, I guess I just have bad aim.

Heh, there seems to be more personal dangers than dangers to others. Especially with older gun handlers.
My dad nearly shot himself. Been using firearms for two dozen years, easy. Former military, drill sergeant, security guard and now a cop. Registered concealed carry, certified armorer, the works.
Was cleaning the pistol the other day, swapped out ammos, pulled the clip back out, and somehow forgot that he'd put one in the chamber, like an idiot.
I definitely pick on him about it now. Call him Barney. Make sure he has his one round in his shirt pocket

I fail to see why this thread is full of such nonsense. She is Just taking apart and re-assembling a mechanical device.
It is not a weapon untill its in the hands of some 1 mentally orientated to use it as such. Up until that point it is about as deadly as kitchen knife, car, chainsaw, any blunt heavy object (i will kill you with my tea cup). The video we have been shown only tells us that her father feels she is old enough to strip a gun. Its not saying he will take her Hunting, target shooting or even let her see him do it.
At this level its no more disturbing than the selling of plastic toy light guns that little 6 y old boys are always waving around.

Actually they are used because they are easily manipulated and to be broken. If a guardian teaches their child that killing is wrong then they will grow up with the understanding that it is indeed wrong, however if you kidnap the kid, kill his family or siblings and tell him that he has to kill or he is going to be shot also, then it wont be wrong to him.
To say that they do it without remorse is pretty heartless. Every human being has the responsibility over life and death, just because someone tells you different does not mean its not true. A child just does not realize that yet, and its the fault of the parents or guardians for not educating them in it. A gun doesn't keep a person from killing someone, thats what fists are for anyways. |

Learning to shot a gun includes how to take care of said weapon so it functions properly. That also includes cleaning and replacing parts when they malfunction. This girl just happens to want to do it as fast as possible which is a sign of proficiency.

QFT.
When I was going to HS there was actually a shooting club. They had a range in our school's rather expansive basement. However, it was an after-school club that was strictly optional. Although they DID introduce us to it in Gym class. I think they discontinued it about 5 years after I left due to pressure from nattering nabob ninnies who thought the kids would go on a shooting rampage.
If I had my druthers the kids would be taking a firearms instruction course as part of the required coursework. Every kid should have proper training in firearms use. People fear or abuse what they don't understand, nobody should grow up without a proper understanding of firearms use and safety. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

But you can't beat the masses of parents who accept no responsibility in educating themselves, much less in the parenting of their children. Those wonderful voting blocks who believe that the government should prosecute criminals before they can break the law, that don't care if innocents are arrested (as long as it's not them), and who wholeheartedly believe that if you could only outlaw X, Y would never occur, because the TV said so.

Exactamundo it would be therefore wise to educate yourself in their use, danger and capability just like you would educate yourself in the use of other dangerous human tools such as the automobile, airplane, chop saw, electricity and so on... _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. 1. The .223 is not much bigger than a .22 round 2. .22 rounds are untraceable. They shred upon impact instead of remaining relatively whole. The fragments do not yield the scoring that larger weapons leave on bullets. Not to say it's impossible to trace though as you would still have powder residue on your person and clothing as well as within the gun.
On top of that as mentioned a gun is a gun is a gun.

Well, lets get technical here. The bullet isn't much different in size, but the powder and casing behind that bullet is VERY different.

I'm actually pro america, it's one of the greatest countries in the world. However, it has its flaws, one of which being a propensity for american school children to shoot each other. Given that this problem doesn't exist to anywhere near the same level in the rest of the world, even in countries with looser gun control than the US, there's nothing wrong with questioning the causes of this problem, and nothing wrong with suggesting that until we figure out the cause of this problem, teaching each and every child, no matter attitude, mental issues or aggressiveness how to use a firearm is possibly a bad idea |

Fair enough, I withdraw my earlier remark.
However, I think you are also missing the safety training and teaching respect part. I think much of the school violence is more an issue of kids not learning proper respect, and basically growing up to be scumbags. There is also the mental health issue to be concerned about. But let's keep in mind that the scumbag and nutcase population is always smaller than the responsible kid population. It's the same with the adults. Yes, there are plenty of crazies and dirtbags. but if the SANE and responsible people are armed, then the nuts and s****are less of an issue.
Let's face it. Crooks, scum, and nuts will ALWAYS be able to get guns. The solution is NOT to remove guns from the general populace of law abiding sane people, but to educate, empower, and ARM the regular folks so that they can responsibly defend themselves against the criminal and crazy elements that are prevalent in any large social group.
This is what America's founding fathers understood, which is why there is a Second Amendment to the Constitution. The Fathers wanted to make absolutely certain that all Americans had the right to keep and bear Arms. It is in this spirit that the father of the girl in the video taught his daughter about proper firearm maintenance. Boys and Girls like her are the future of America, and will be the defenders of Freedom around the world. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

Actually, if you dig into the writings of those same founding fathers, home defense was rarely spoken of. The Right to Bear Arms was put in place to allow the American people the means to overthrow their government, should it ever become tyrannic (lets not forget that these gentlemen just got through with a revolution of their own, and could recognize that no government was perfect and free of the transition of tyranny).
While I'm very much for keep firearms in your home in extreme cases of self defense, I am more for keeping the spirit of our forefathers alive, specifically the right of the people to choose their governing body, even against the current governments will.
I've always respected Texas for retaining the right to succeed in their constitution, until recently, when they removed that amendment for the sake of more federal funding. Being from Arkansas, it's a hard thing to admit (respecting Texas, that is ).

Actually, it's pretty much fact. Show them how to do it young enough, get them high/stoned/drunk and they will do anything to anyone without realising the consequences, and thus, without remorse. Small children are 'programmed' to take anything an adult tells them for fact and accept it without questioning. Start young enough and the possibilities are endless. (see: religious indoctrination)
While everyone is responsible for his/her own actions, realising the consequences of those actions is something quite different IMO. While the little lady may know how to take it apart or how it functions internally, she is still miles away from knowing, let alone understanding what death and injury mean.
Please don't misunderstand me. I like firearms to the sense that they are complicated mechanical devices and i've always had an attraction to those, but fortunatly i've only used them in games so far. This may sound a little far fetched or geeky or w/e but i can love or hate an FPS game solely based on how realistic the weapons department is, even though i have never held any myself nor have the ambition to do so in the future.
As sting once sung:
It takes more than combat gear to make a man It takes more than a license to own a gun
It takes more than knowledge of or dexterity with said gun to own it. Bearing arms is something that in my opinion should not be taken lightly, because it puts one in a highly unnatural situation, one that makes killing into something that takes little skill or involvement. I am *not* saying that using a gun is 'easy', but any idiot can but in a mag, aim it, and pull the trigger.

Teaching children gun handling in the UK - No Need, kids are born with KJB Firearms skills and CQC Knife handling.
Actually they're not, they just pick up a butchers knife and swing in someones general direction. But the media would have you believe that they're assassins.
Props to the 13 year old that made a headshot on some kid a while back though, range was like 40 yards... With an air rifle!

This is so true - like robots they obey & they will learn the task you give them! Look on youtube for all the kids who can do adult things, its all practice just most adults cant be arsed they give up far to soon, were as a kid will keep learning until they master it or until there Master tells them to stop.

jeez, the lot of you are discussing stuff way over the girl's head. You dont even know how the parents teach that girl how to properly handle a live firearm and the responsibility in handling something that can kill.
TBH, teaching kids at that age with something that requires maturity and responsibility half of EVE fail to even show is an amazing feat. No doubt she'll grow up probably being your level-headed boss in the future, or your kid's future, if any, considering how many people here are going head over heels over the "right thing".

Learning to shoot a gun includes how to take care of said weapon so it functions properly. That also includes cleaning and replacing parts when they malfunction. This girl just happens to want to do it as fast as possible which is a sign of proficiency.

Too true. The only sincere incident of a state or states, or a massive part of the population for that matter, disagreeing with the leadership of the government lead to the Civil War, and the deaths of many, many Americans on both sides.
If you go to school here in the States, they tell you that the Civil War was all about slavery and the freedom of African Americans. Of course, all the newspapers of the time, from several years before up until the last year of the war, focus on the overtaxation of the southern states, the restrictions on economic progress (many taxes were placed on these states preventing the building of factories and whatnot), etc. Slavery came into play later, and is primarily a topic of historians.
The reason I bring this up at all, is because there are groups within many western states (namely California), calling for a separatist movement. Considering America's stance on Russia and Georgia, I can't see the 'right to bear arms' being incredibly popular if anything actually happens.
There is such a thing as a government having too much power. The Patriot Act is a prime example.

Well we think not. It takes many to make the world go round.
Teach them young and you teach them responsibility. Typically the people shooting others in the States have not taken a gun safety or hunting safety course. This girl probably has.
Slade
Does the fact that I owned guns from the time I was 8 years old bother you? (probably would have starved if it wasn't for rifles growing up, so if it does bother you... go stick it in your @$$)
Granted I can't field strip an AR like that young woman, but safety and maintenance of firearms has always been a priority in my life, as it should be in every persons life (starting at a young age is usually best as well).
I think the words of Charlton Hesston need to be remembered, they may ring with a bit of familiarity and "cliche-ness" but that doesn't detract from their honesty: "Guns don't kill people, people do."

Be responsible, gain the knowledge and the means to protect yourself, and use it fairly. Because no amount of peaceful protests will stop the aggressive actions of those who don't care about you or your opinion.
Man, EvE is a perfect example of this, and I wonder how people are still so naive. You can attack someone anywhere in EvE, and there will ALWAYS be people who will prey on those who are too foolish or too naive to protect themselves. You are their intended target, BECAUSE your so nice and friendly!
Cops can't stop it, laws can't stop it, nothing can stop it ... accept you.
Countries where gun laws remove the average citizens right to own firearms (or knives and whatnot, as some do), don't have lower crime rates. They'll quote you lower rates on shootings, etc, but even these still happen.
But you better believe the crime and personal attacks still happen. And check the trend yourself.
It only gets worse!
Those who advocate gun control in the States are following a twisted sort of logic. Sure, let's ban guns. And to keep that mentality in mind, lets disarm and ban the military's as well. How long would America last on the world seen then? Hell, even Canada might invade at that point

Every peaceful civilization I've ever heard of has been brutally victimized by others.

It's sad how naive you are.
Obviously, I have no idea how old you are, and I won't make any suppositions, but your opinion is much like ones I hear from HS and college kids who's heads have been filled with far leftist tripe.
Perhaps a simple analogy will help you understand:
Imagine you are a normal Grade School kid. In your class you have a bully. How do you deal with him?
You have two basic choices: Appeasement, and Opposition. (There is NO middle ground when dealing with a Bully.)
Many kids choose to appease the Bully. "He's not really a bad guy, just misunderstood. If I'm just nice to him, he'll be nice to me." they figure. They are wrong. Indeed, the kids that capitulate the fastest get beat up again the quickest. They have marked themselves as weak, easy targets, and the Bully will relish attacking them again.
You however, choose Opposition. To stand up to the Bully. You are a bit smaller, and a bit weaker than him, but you have a go at it anyway. The bully, so shocked that someone actually stood up to him, backs off initially, but soon comes back even harder. Again, you have a choice. Capitulate, and encourage his attacks, or hit the gym after school and work out. Bulk up. Take a Martial Arts class and learn to deal with threats larger than you. In other words, Get Stronger.
The next time the Bully goes after you, you are ready for him. You beat him senseless and crying. The Bully stops coming after you. He knows you are a Hard Target, and leaves you alone. Soon, you will find that other small kids are running to you for protection. Initially this causes a few fights, as the bully may not have completely gotten the message. But eventually, the bully begins to leave ALL the kids alone, because he knows that you are there, and that he can't beat you. From then on school is a better place and everyone, even the bully, does better.
This is much the way that international politics works. It's the schoolyard on a global scale. Unfortunately, there is no teacher to come stop the fights.
This is why the concept of "Peace Through Strength" works. If you are strong enough, and tough enough, the bullies of the world leave you alone. They are essentially cowards who only want soft targets. If you make yourself a Hard Target, they won't want to take the beating they are likely to endure from you, and will back down quickly. This allows all the smaller, weaker nations who are your allies to prosper, free from the threat that the Bully nation want to impose.
I hope that helped explain how it works. It's a simple concept, but often times the simplest concepts are the ones most effective at dealing with complex problems. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

How is peace achieved, then?
Every peaceful civilization I've ever heard of has been brutally victimized by others.
While the individual human being may change his nature and act peacefully, to expect every other person and every other civilization to do so is pure foolishness.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
This is where I link this book one more time. This is a very interesting read.
Guns, Germs, and Steal: The Fates of Human Societies
Looks at why things developed where they did, when they did, and why they did not develop in other areas at the same time.
Good Stuff.

She was not being filmed by friends, but in a controlled situation by her father. There was no ammo present. She was not riding her bike to the gun range with it straddled across the handle bars. I also highly doubt she has access to the gun unless her father is around I fail to see how this video raises questions about a child's responsibility levels.

The bully wouldn't leave you alone because of the fact that you'd be strong, but because of the fact, that you'd not hestitate to use that strenght to hurt him. He'd be afraid of you and therefor leave you alone.... Here we are, back at the concept of peace through fear...
If you we're strong, but people'd be sure that you wouldn't use your force against them, then they'd still harrass you.

Whats to stop me driving up on the sidewalk and totalling as many people as i can before the shards of shattered bone and bloody sinew either clog or puncture my radiator?
A gun is designed to fire a projectile. It is not specifically used to fire at people, it just happens to be incredibly effective.
Much like a car. Its designed to carry people, but can also be used to splatter them across the blacktop.
The fact guns can kill people is obvious, but people act as if they're the only thing that can kill people. I can take a No.2 pencil and jam it in everyones eye socket I meet on the street, wiggle it about and eventually they will die. I can keep doing this until my pencil breaks or I am eventually apprehended.
Ban the pencils?
People start using bricks as a primary weapon so we ban bricks? Houses end up being made out of foam bricks because everyone would have a huge supply of lethal bricks in their own homes!

No, there is a huge difference between disarming the average citizen and the military. The military is the nation's defence force and needs to be armed to deter and combat others. The private citizen does not need to kill other people. Giving them guns encourages armed robbery, intimidation, muggings and so on. That is not to say they don't happen everywhere else, but without guns in the mix there are a lot less of them, and a lot less deaths when they do.
The people benefitting from your right to bear arms are the arms manufacturers. They're more than happy to buy off politicians to ensure they can continue to puts guns into the hands of every private citizen to make money. -------------

Guess what? It is easier to "maintian" control of the people, that live on an island. It is easier to maintain the status quo in a country with population less then New York City.
New York City - 8 million
EurAsia - Many countries below 8 million population and only a few trumping New York by only 3-5 times
The USA is a very dynamic country, about as dynamic as one can country can get. There is a potential for any country to implode. And, I for sure, want the ability to protect my family and my homestead if the worst should ever happen. If someone does not want that right then go ahead do not have them. But to say that you can not posses them, for the purpose that our countries founding fathers used theme for, is ludicrous.
The next step is to make sure everyone understands them, uses them regulary, and knows how to take care of them.

I would say that a majority of gun owners in the US can agree with MD's statement above. I was taught how to fire certain guns at a young age and by the age of 11 I had earned enough money from cutting grass, collecting aluminum cans after my soccer games, and odd and end jobs for the elderly people in my neighborhood to buy my first rifle.
By the age of 11 not only did I understand the responsibilty of a gun, I also had a firm understanding of their lethality, and new how to strip all my fathers and grandfathers guns and put them through a solid cleaning. I killed my first deer, illegally, the fall before I turned 11, and had been shooting small game for a year before that. So keep not owning guns and if/when shit hits the fan don't start crying for mercy, because you already had the chance to prepare yourselves.

yes cause 11 year olds with guns is always a good idea...
and when the shit hits the fan the only reason it will be hitting the fan is because everyone in you country could with very little effort kill just about anyone else.... besides the only real shit hitting fan from outside your country would be a foreign army and that means kevlar vests and armoured vechiles

Drivers permit can be attained at 15.
Your sidestepping the point which a ton of people have been doing in this thread. They say she doesn't acknowledge the responsibility of a firearm which is not true. I would trust her with that assault rifle a whole lot more than some street thug who got his hands on a pistol.
All of my friends have had training and our stats to date are: Me - vehicle accidents 5 firearm accidents 0 My father (AF MP and police officer)- Vehicle accidents 3 firearm accidents 0 My friend Nate - Has been through 8 cars, Gun accidents - 0 His brother Jay - Marine for 8 years, car accidents - 3 firearm accidents - 0 My friend Mike - Car accidents 1 where he lost his father, his mother was severly crippled, him and his sister had to be removed via jaws of life, firearm accidents - 0
See a trend forming? We've all had gun safety training. We know how to use a firearm. The little girl has had gun safety training. She knows how to use a firearm. As for the cars you have to take in other peoples ability to drive. Your sure as hell not gonna end up at a firing range and worry about somebody popping a cap in your ass.
I know that the media likes to impose scare tactics. I know you read about school shootings and what not. Seriously, reading about average Joe who went out and shot a few guns at a range and nothing happening is rather dull news dontcha think? But it happens every day.
You call it bad, but I call it excellent parenting skills. She knows gun safety, and chances are her gun incidents will most lkely remain at 0

your side stepping the point by trying 2 make it look like cars are alot more dangerous
people (most of the time) dont step into cars with the aim of training up for damging other ppl in the future)
people go down to the firing range to practise their gun skills so they can kill people easier
now alls it needs is for some idiot to get hold of a gun and bam..... dead person
fair enough cars can be used as weapons but its alot easier to get out the way of a car compared to say avoiding being shot in the face....
the fact that an 11 year old knows how to use a gun is just stupid since
a) she could get bullied by someone nasty at school and solve the problem with.....a gun b) she could get into an emotional situation where she gets so depressed she goes on a rampage (see every school shooting ever) Eve information kiosk

According to your logic, we should be reading about several thousand school shootings and not 1 or 2 a year. Millions of people own guns, quite frankly I'm surprised we even have buildings standing still since according to you we're all working on our ability to be killers.

Recent shooting in a mall in Utah. Maybe a couple of hundred people in the mall. Shooter got 13 including himself. So that's a couple hundred minus 13 who ducked and covered. Now how many people react when they see that car at the last second? See, I can do it too.
Current population of the US - 301,139,947 (2007 statistic). Quite a few million people who have guns is quite a modest reply.
I'd hate to tell you but anyone, anywhere can get their hands on a gun of you look hard enough. YOU may be restricted from getting one because your a law abiding citizen, but I can assure you a trip to the docks with some shady characters and a few hundred in your pocket will score you a .45. Your fooling yourself if you think otherwise.
And again, according to your logic I should be in prison atm. Guns do not equal people dieing.

yes but id have to go out of my way to get a gun and atleast i could be arrested for owning a gun (even though our police are shite)
whereas u can decide on a whim to pop down to a shop and buy a gun which is just ....confoundly stupid
oh and for the record i said theres a capiacty for voilence not that everyone who owns a gun is a killer......i still support police owning guns and would rather have police in my country having guns but making them nationaly accesible just means that its easier for someone with a grudge/mental disability/hatred of human life as we know it to kill anyone. And the 13 killed in that shopping mall were prolly only 13 cause the guy ran outa ammo or just killed himself b4 emptying his clip if hed just walked in with several guns i cant imagine the death toll woulda been so low....oh and for the most important bit you seem to be forgetting
WHAT KIND OF A COUNTRY ARE YOU LIVING IN WHERE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DUCK AND COVER AND HAVE TO DO SO?
srsly thats just messed up. The whole idea of owning a weapon capable of killing other people cause some idiots 200 years ago said so despite the conditions being much different then (occupying armies guns being teh suck etc etc) just shows how stubborn you are to change (neesecary change) and how frail your idea of need is. You wouldnt need a gun to defend yourself against other people with guns if you didnt all have access to guns in the first place. Admittedly gangsters still have guns but then if the police had guns atleast theyd b less of a problem.
Also this has gone way of track and md seems to just be overlooking the original backplot to this which was why the hell is a 11 year old being taught how to fire a gun when she should be enjoying life and not being taught how to kill communists

That's the point I've been trying to get across for several pages now. Not everyone in a vehicle is dangerous, and not everyone with a gun is dangerous. Poor Death though seems to think otherwise because of controlled media and guns r bad brainwashing.

Read up on the requirements for gun ownership before you post crap like this again.

He had several hundred rounds of ammunition and 2 guns. He had intent to cause more damage. Also I was way off, he killed 5 and wounded 4 and was shot by an off duty officer. Article here.

I own knives too. In fact some knives aren't exactly used to cut my steak. Oh wait, I heard they're trying to ban those too in England. you guys are gonna have to resort to rocks at some point while the criminals still have the good stuff.

Edited by: Kephael on 08/09/2008 19:43:21 Hilarious replies in this thread, considering the homicide rate has increased by about 15% in Great Britain since the banning of most firearms and the crime rate is still roughly double that of the US I'm fairly certain it negates the "guns cause crime argument". 55% of gun related deaths are suicides in the US, 45% are shootings, the vast majority of shootings are felon on felon crimes (related to the drug trade). In the end, only 11,000 deaths are the results of shootings, justified or not are included in these statistics. Considering how many people tobacco kills or alcohol it's merely a drop in the bucket. All empires/countries are marked by a rise and fall, hopefully the UK won't fall any time soon but you never know, radical religious extremists are out there, hopefully they don't decide they want to move in next door to your flat and kick off a revolution.

That's right, Switzerland is maelstrom of ammunition. And so is Kennesaw, Georgia, population of 26,000, that has not seen a murder by guns since it passed a law requiring its citizens to own a firearm. Right now, Washington D.C., and Chicago, IL which have outlawed handguns are more dangerous than Baghdad. There is no instance in the US, where relaxing restrictions on gun ownership increased crime.
The UK also has gun crime...

Who says he carried a firearm around at those places? Concealed Carry laws differ from state to state and not all states recognize other states concealed carry licenses.

Oooh... I've been staying away from this topic because it's a really difficult one. There's no easy answer, one way or the other.
First off, I live in South Florida. I have felt unsafe countless times. My mom got a bullet in her car windshield when I was a kid (we were not driving through a ghetto). A middle school teacher got shot and killed a few years after I had graduated - Barry Brunow. I've had a gun pulled on me. I'm a girl.
That said, if we just outright ban guns, there are still going to be some lying around. The ganster guys will still get them. Anyone who had underworld connections would still get them. But not those who wanted to keep safe from said underworld.
On the other side of the coin, my ex-'s mother committed suicide a few years ago by shooting herself in the head in a period of manicness. If she wouldn't have had access to a gun, I know she would still be alive. If my ex had a gun, said ex would be dead now, and possibly, so would I.
I'm not going to endorse either side too much. But I will say that I think the resolution lies somewhere in the middle - not outright banning all guns, and not letting anyone have access to them within 7 days or whatever it is. Maybe a 6 month waiting period, with a certificate needed from a psychiatrist? I know it sounds extreme, but ... even if it saved one life I would think it worth it.

But not those who wanted to keep safe from said underworld. Doing the 6 month thing may cut down on gun suicides slightly, but there would be an increase in different suicide methods. It is far easiy to commit suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning than pulling a trigger.

Suicides are personal responses and do no physical harm to other people, if someone wishes to kill themselves they are free to do so. You may think your mother wouldn't have comitted suicide with a firearm but she could just as easily sat in a garage with a motor running and done it differently. It's highly likely she had access to the gun for years, what would a wait of any sort have done to prevent her from shooting herself?

Just because I have a gun rack doesn't mean theres a gun on it. I never took a gun to any of those places, I don't know where you got the notion that I did carry. I'm sitting at my desk at work right now as we speak, and my guns are currently in a 1100 lb safe 30 miles from me. I don't feel naked and insecure atm.

It just took one second with a gun though to end it all.
And yeah, I don't fully understand all the waiting periods and everything, and I don't really care. I don't care all that much about this issue. However please don't even try to argue the suicide angle, when you haven't gone through it yourself. Argue a different angle.

Well, if your grandfather died in a drunk driving accident and I never lost anyone to drunk driving, I hope I would have the tact to not say something like 'well your grandfather would have died anyway, so let's let anyone drive drunk'.
I really didn't want to get drug into this thread, as I'm not some big anti-gun person. But you just had to go and say something so personally insulting that I just couldn't avoid commenting. Thanks.

Do people in europe really think america is just a bunch of people walking around with guns? lol. There was an episode of top gear where they came to america to race somewhere. One of the used car lot salespeople showed clarkson his gun, and he freaked out! I laughed, but the truth is most people would freak out if someone you don't know suddenly has a gun when a moment bore they did not, i know i would be somewhat uneasy.
Apart from on police officers you see walking around you don't commonly see a gun in america unless you are at a shooting range, out in the wilderness, or happen to be in someones house who has some guns locked up in a case or somewhere.
I have a gun, i take it out once every few months and wipe it down, look it over to make sure there is no rust forming anywhere, and then put oil on it again and put it back away. Haven't shot it in probably 10 years. It was my dads. He taught me when i was 8 or 9 about guns. First with a simple bolt action .22, then with a shotgun, then with some other kinds of rifles. Wasn't until i was much older that i was allowed to even touch a handgun.
Simple things. Dont put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot, dont point a gun at anything you don't intent to kill with it (and by extension always be aware at where you are pointing it). Always treat a gun like its loaded. He taught me how to clean them and then finally, after all of that, he taught me how to shoot it.
We used to go for walks in the woods, he had his gun, and i had mine, which was not loaded. But he would still get after me if i ever did anything wrong.
Are there bans on archery in europe? It would be a shame. Ive had lots of fun shooting at targets on hay stacks as well. A gun is no more designed to kill people than a bow is. Both are simply devices that by one means or another impart energy onto a projectile in such a way that it is reasonably controllable.
I could walk into a home and garden store and buy enough chemicals to make a device that could destroy a whole building.

I just wanted to make a statement about how it doesn't have to be all or nothing, that maybe we need a middle ground solution. Mike, it sounds like it's perfectly safe for you to own a gun. And it sounds like where you live, it's much safer for people to have them than it is down here. I just wanted to point out that it's not always so safe. But I don't think banning guns is the answer either. I think people like you are perfectly qualified to have them.
I didn't want to post much in here because I really don't care all that much about gun control, I don't know enough about it to say much, and it's a very complex issue. But now I left a few posts, dammit, just because I got ****ed about a specific comment .
Edited.

Thanks.
My apologies, I did not wish to offend you, I simply wished to demonstrate how in the end, death is death.

And I completely agree with the middle ground. What I see in that video is simply awesome and I believe gun safety (as in Hunters ed) should be mandatory for anyone wishing to own a firearm. My dad made sure I got my raining before he took me out hunting, and before that I got to pack around a toy gun that could transform into a robot (wonder what happened to that thing).
And I'll do the same for my kids if they show a interest in guns. they will learn that it's not a toy and to be taken lightly. They will learn to use proper protection when firing a gun. They will learn to clean a gun. They will learn to value a gun.
And the same will go for cars, horses, computers, or whatever else comes to mind.

Wow, I wish it was that easy.
Please, just stop, your giving me a headache. BTW that bow ban is funny. That IS something I have on my gunrack atm, but no string.

That just shows your warped understanding of the situation. Honestly if i had to chose between being shot with a gun or an arrow, i would take the gun. Its more likely to cleanly pass through you, and wood could carry bacteria or other things. By the way its more unpleasant to be stabbed than it is to be shot, also.
Quote: and a lot less noticeable (and somehow in the time it takes to put the arrow in the bow sight your target and fire everyone within a five mile radius would be gone ^^ whereas with a gun its almost as simple as aim in general direction of person flick the safety switch off and bam dead person
besides with an arrow you can stay stealthy and pick people off, they don't know which direction to run away from! which cover is safe!
A problem i see in this thread is the strange idea that some lethal things are somehow capable of 'killing you more dead than others'.
This is going to be a huge cliche and i apologize, but i remind you 9/11 happened due to box cutters.
Its troublesome to see people who give some weapons less respect than other weapons trying to dictate on matters like these. Lethal is lethal, period. WE understand that. Probably because we fully appreciate what a weapon can do. And as i outlined in an above post im far from being a 'gun nut'. I was simply familiarized with the subject instead of having it hidden away from me.

the reason that the crime rate is so high and england and the gun crime is pretty bad is that police cant do shit in this country and neither can people in general thanks to health and safety (which is partially americas fault and partially ours for bandwaggoning) if the police did have guns and it wasnt illegal to kick the shit outa criminals then wed have a lower crime rate but regardless you wouldnt need guns for it (though police should still have them) Eve information kiosk

@Micheal Dietrich (between nice german name you carry there ;-) ) and all the other americans here: Don't even try to understand a european on this one, please. As long as you are not raised and educated as one you can't ever understand that, so don't even try to.
Or before you try: Imagine you live in a country where every single city, village, house older than let's say threehundred years (roughly the time since the founding of the US, give or take some decades) have seen at least two major wars if not more, plus some more little battles. Imagine you live in a land big as the USA and there are 20 different languages. Imagine further that in this country a handsign that for you and your ppl means something very nice and encouraging is only onehundred kilometers in some direction a deadly insult. Imagine now that this land have seen wars lasting longer than a third of the time YOUR country exist, getting more than a third of its population plundered, ****d and murdered. With every war.
The US in WW2 lost an estimated total of 250 thousand troops. Germany (i am, so i take this number - knowing we start this mess. Figures just for makeing a statement) lost nearly 3 Million - and with this we didn't even get close to the top of lost lives.
And now with all this in mind: Ask yourself one question: Would you allow your children to play around with a weapon that is theoretically able to kill the same amount of people your country lost in WW2 in under 6 hours? Really?
And to the europeans in here:
Leave them in peace. Don't try to impose your moral understanding on people that are raised and educated in knowledge that the possesion of arms is right. Remember that wearing arms in europe is not forbiden for that long. We murdered each other in the millions to come to where we are today. Maybe the americans are not THAT stupid. Maybe they are more reasonable with weapons. Personally i don't believe so - but who am i to judge this.
And with all that said: Holy shit - a child with a gun. What will be the next? An adolescent with a Nuke? Just for hunting purposes, of course O_o

Wars aside you just described the US. Come to any major city and the first thing you will see is that certain sections are very specific in nationality. Italians live in one area, russians in another, hispanics get their neck of the woods, and chinese another. I spent my time in polish country in Chicago due to my heritage (after getting lost in chinatown and the projects for an hour).
We have the sign language thing and also (as stupid as it is) color language. You walk into a neighborhood wearing the wrong shoelaces and certain people take offense to it.
Now in the end this country has also seen it's wars, but aside from Pearl Harbor most of the wars were in the days of the muskets.
As for the euro's, I don't care what their laws state. If they want to live in a land without guns or whatever then fine, great, that's their thing. My issue is them seeing a video like the one posted in the op, freaking out, and making rather idiotic statements like 'oh, she's gonna be a mass murderer now' or 'They're training her for the cold war' or 'no 11 yo needs to know this'. Not to mention some very warped views of the US. I guess people get the idea that we're still stuck in the wild west or something.

One difference between Europa and US though, still. You have one main language - english. It is spoken by all your people to at least some extend. It might seem an inferior defference. But it isn't. For the rest - ok, true. But don't make an issue out of people freaking out on some video. Believe me - your fellow countrymen are not better ;-) On both sides you will find people thinking they are better educated, more intelligent oder simple superior by birthright to others. and trying to fight and argue with them - well i suggest haveing a small interview with Don Quichote on this matter
Personally i still think it is some very weird idea to teach a little girl the use of an assault rifle. But again - i don't understand it because i am not used to have guns in my surrounding. The first time i had a firearm - more so a semiautomatic- in my hands was in recruittraining. They better had given me a stick with a nail through one end. I nearly killed myself with that ****ing thing. We Germans can build weapons. We were not intended to use them. Everytime we do we mess things up. So understand that -at least the germans in this thread- we can't understand your culture on this weaponthing. No matter how hard i try - it will still be creepy for me. My daughter has no use for a weapon and hopefully never will. Because -and again consider my european heritage- for me the primary use of a semiautomatic firearm is killing other people. It is no hunting weapon. It is a weapon of war. Not a thing for a child hand.

Think of it from this point of view:
Why do people rebuild classic cars? Why do they build model ships? Collect baseball cards? Own a collection of movies?
Because they are hobbies. I don't need an AK-47, I wanted an AK-47. Because I like guns. And from the looks of it so does this girl. I'm not gearing up for WW3. I'm not gearing up for a murder rampage. I'm going into the desert for a day of hanging out with friends who share a common interest and fun.
My AK-47 destroys old tv's and waterheaters. To my knowledge (at least since I've owned it) it has never killed a living soul. Does this still make it a weapon of war? Or an hobbyist item?
You see a weapon of destruction, I see something that made the Russians famous. You see a harmful item, I see a piece of history.
What the people can't get around is what it does, not what it can do. They simply look at it and think 'guns kill, guns are bad'. My guns are currently locked up, just sitting there. Are they still bad? Are they currently harming someone? When I take them to the firing range and set them on the tailgate are they causing damage? It's just wood and metal.
Magic 8 ball says that the little girl will most likely never need to use the gun for whatever reason, but it does say that she likes spending time with her father and sharing a common hobby. But for some reason the people take offense to it because she's not playing with barbies or chasing boys. They (and this really gets to me) take offense that this person is receiving proper training in the use of a firearm.

It's too bad you just don't get it.

Why the **** are people so scared of guns? I think that the parent of that child, can teach her whatever the hell she wants. I actually think its better to learn about guns through your parents because it teaches you about GUN DISCIPLINE. You respect the weapon as you know what it can do, and as such are less willing to use it in anger.
Plus a gun is only a tool, someone determined enough will try to kill you wheter or not they have a gun or not. Hell i know ways to kill someone with my bare hands, should my hands be confiscated because i MAY hurt someone with them? hell no.

If there are guns in a society, then teaching children about them should be done at about the same age you teach children to NOT run out into traffic, and for the same reasons.
I flat out don't believe that guns have ANY impact on how brutal or thuggish criminals are. The impact of guns on this is an absolute zero.
However, the presense of guns in society DOES impact how well armed a criminal or citizen is. It is also worth noting that most violent crime is commited by folks who know each other.
Its also worth noting that Criminals will have guns anyway, even if every gun factory in the world is shut down, all armies disarm, and all guns are destroyed. It does not take an especially big workshop to MAKE guns, even simple machineguns. Quality might leave a bit to be desired however....
I doubt even the absolute elimination of guns would save many lives. In fact, some would be lost due to it. Even so, I'd not be shocked if it overall save a few.
But I'm rabidly against the concept of the nanny state. Not even for free health insurance (and I write this as a cancer survivor who had no insurance and not a lot of money, and a lot LESS money now.....)
Truth told I lean towards gun freedom, but if other folks in other countries want to live differently, I can respect them and wish them the best of luck. Perhaps they are even correct. But I prefer my 2nd amendment.
Play nice while you butcher each other.
