Soooo, has anyone gotten their accounts hacked yet?
Also, isn't this considered to be an "illegal" program? Even though this program probably falls into the same gray region as torrent clients do (Probably not because this program actually facilitates direct download from only "illegal" sources) it's still questionable to say at least. And with that the existence of this thread on the eve forums...
That said, looks nice, works perfectly, but I don't think I'll be using it on a regular basis. Thanks anyway.

No antivirus finds anything in it.
I must be pretty damn good to hack accounts or log keys and send them to myself without a single antivirus heuristic picking it up.
Also, people have monitored the connections it makes, and it makes them where I said it does. A russian contact site.

Legally there is no difference whether you use this program or sign up for an account on the russian site. Downloading is not illegal in 90% of cases, uploading is. That is why downloading copyrighted material using torrent clients is illegal and this is perfectly fine in most countries.
If it is illegal to download material that you do not own the copyright to - don't download it.
My program is literally nothing other but a web browser. If web browsers are illegal in your country, then do not download the program. Then again, if they are, how are you posting here?

Excellent little tool. It even found a lot of really obscure stuff that I never expected it to. Deffo will be an addition to my useful apps list.
As for the save directory, Maybe an ini file in the application's folder could be used to save the last used download folder to reload on launch. This wouldn't be as intrusive as a registry entry and would keep the applications working data in the working directory.
Suggestions for possible upgrade:
An ini file could be used to extend other things to make searches easier:- Last X searches (convert search text field to combo box) which allows the user to resume a search for the same artist later.
Maybe a cross reference update to scan the dl folder and rule out existing tracks at the users discretion. This allows a user to dl many songs from the same artist without dupes unless they are looking for a better version of the same song.

Could be. Still, I have the .exe on my desktop. If it creates a .ini file, then that clutters my desktop.

Yes possible. It is even possible to make a predictive combobox.
Though the question is - why?
I have never ever needed that feature, and I have been using this program for far longer than it has been in the wild.
I just think the cost to implement it is higher than the benefits.

This is feature bloat and a resource hog.
I am never going to let the program scan anyone's hard drive, ever.
Also, this is considered "bonkers" on an intrusiveness meter.

Whenever I open the program I get one of those error messages saying "Tclkit, a standalone runtime for Tcl/Tk has encountered a problem and needs to close" etc. etc.
As long as I don't click "don't send" I can still search for and download music fine. It's annoying, but made up for 100x by the brilliance of the program. |

I don't see how "piracy" applies here. It is basically a web browser.
Downloading non-prohibited media with a browser has never been illegal in my country.
It is illegal to distribute copyrighted media when you don't have the rights to, but not to download for yourself from someone.

An update for the search tool has been released, v1.3
* Added support for an initial saving directory. Use "search.exe <directory>" when starting the tool.
* Added grouping of the same result
* Boosted HTTP request threads to 8 (from 6)
* Lowered timeout to 2x2 seconds instead of 2x3 seconds
* Fixed bitrate calculation.
The default directory setting has been very much requested. The other optimizations account for a 20-40% increase in search speed.
URL is the same as in OP.

I always used the "start in" field in the Windows shortcut to solve that.
Regardless, since I switched to Linux I've just kept the application where I want the files. :D
The speed-ups are noticeable, and this application is still win.

A little background info:
Yesterday, the website I am polling bought the vk.com domain. They also implemented a new and pretty screwed up authentication.
So I had to register a new account on that site + reverse engineer the new 3-way javascript/ajax auth and implement it in the program.
The first search might be a bit slower now, because on the first search it will authenticate and get a cookie, then use said cookie to communicate with the server. I doubt the delay will be very noticeable though.
Time taken: Approx 3 hours.

Changelog:
* Added the ability to cancel downloads/remove finished downloads from the list.
To cancel/delete a download, select an entry, which is in progress in the download list, hit Delete on your keyboard and it will abort the download and delete the file.
If the download is already done, then it will only remove the entry from the download list, but not remove the file from disk.
