A few facts about MMO's in general:
They are designed with the idea being that it takes teamwork and effort of multiple people working together to accomplish something (much like a multiplayer FPS).
Most games limit players by class. Eve limits players by time, as to what you can do within the game in a reasonable amount of time, the idea being that your specialization makes you needed as part of a group because you choose to bring something to the table that is lacking (if you spend 5 years training up before ever playing, you're wasting your time and money, same if you think you won't jump right in before you have a few million skill points). The point is to play the game, not wait to play the game. If PVP is your thing, make a character right from the start focused on that, and/or train up for that through your defense skills (tank), and your offense skills (turrets/drones/missiles).
For Eve, the fitting is just as or even more important than skills, and selecting a proper group of people to fly around with is also as important. To these two things, actual skills take a huge backseat. sure L4 in lasers isn't going to toast someone as fast, but you can't train Good Teamwork or Proper Fitting up to L5, and these are the two more important things for PVP.
On soloers. These people don't play MMOs, they want to say they do and feel involved, because they have no life outside of games, or they feel connected to others unlike single player games. But unfortunately for them, they are willing to pay 15+ a month in addition to the game's initial fee (see WoW for comparison, as Eve Online has a very minor start cost, which is waived completely by using a GTC), and for what that they can't get from playing a single player game (which would undoubtedly have the controlled environment of NPC they crave, as well as a better PVE experience and storyline) while having some other chat program open to brag to their "friends" about how good they are about shooting a bunch of predictable mobs. I could theorize that being so lonely, they need the constant reminder of "I pwnz0r j00" leet speak to remind them that there are people out there as sad and pathetic as themselves on the axiom "misery loves company".
In all other games the idea is to have a goal. Kill this dragon, get this armor, etc. In Eve, get this armor becomes "fly this ship and use these mods". The thing that prevents this is more or less the same that prevents "getting that armor", in that all it really takes is time, and a grind. The only difference in eve is that you can't control the time it takes to grind with anything other than implants on top of attributes, whereas in other games, your personal best grinding method + time = the same thing. So, we're left with the lack of a goal, and this lack of a goal, something to focus on, is exactly what causes a gamer to become jaded at the prospect of flying their spaceship around the web. All this proves is that left to their own devices, the majority of people are so zombified that they can't even come up with a goal for themselves in the game. Maybe they fear looking silly, or that the goal itself is worthless, but if you're playing a video game or even real sports, congratulate yourself on having already done this.
Antisocialites. For some reason they are drawn to MMOs, not to actually play, but to vent their repressed frustration on other people by annoying them. The most dedicated ones are those who actually play within the mechanics of the game to "grief" others, while those with short attention spans and a lack of professionalism merely resort to name calling and ranting until they are banned.
Eve Corporations. For some reason, every noob in the galaxy makes a corporation. Also for some reason, every noob in the galaxy thinks that a corporation asking for you to join them is somehow unworthy of their mere presence, and they get indignant if they are a royal ****tard and actually called out on it, so that they ***** and

Edited by: Ekrid on 04/09/2008 09:23:34 eventually leave your corp. Good riddance to them, but their attitude is wholly wrong. Corporations need players as much as players need them. Its a symbiotic relationship, but everything thinks that being in a corporation should somehow be easy street, with no taxes, and nothing to actually do but fly around with yet another chat venue while they go about still playing the solo pve game.
Making money in games. The idea of specialization is that you can gain a goal much quicker with a few people doing specific tasks as opposed to one person trying to do it all themselves. Thats where corporations come in for Eve, yet people are either afraid of being grouped with ****tards, or are antisocialites themselves, that they stay solo.

I need a point ?
also disagree about solo players (the only bit I understood as a sentence), this game is much deeper than most solo games so it's still fun to play solo, but also with other people.

Everything looked good, till you got to the part about solo and excuse me, but what right do you have to tell people what and how they should play? they pay just like you do. From this I can guess that you are one of those "PVP or get out of MY eve!"-type players and to be honest people like that shouldnt play MMOs, this is not your game, this is everyones game and those who pay to play it have the right to chose how they play it.
So yeah there a people who do solo missions and only talk to other people in the chat, but whats wrong with that? seriously?
oh yeah and: player1 tabs Aggresive Wall of Whine, Aggresive Wall of Whine does 30 damage 1000 damage to you. you die. ---------------------------------------------- I like to loot it loot it |

And then you have the Amateur Psychologist. The kind of person who assesses other people based on their own distorted view of themselves, therefore biased and ends up forcing other people within very narrow parameters. They often denounce other people for straying beyond those parameters, failing to understand why or how people are different from themselves.
Projection bias is a defense mechanism in which one attributes oneÆs own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts and emotions to others. To quote:
