soloers like to play in a community/economy/etc of other soloers instead of all by themselves because it provides the MMO effect of "not being godlike"...
in most single player games, you either control armies and cities like some kind of overlord, or you are some super-hero type character. but in MMO's you are a mere citizen among many, and a large portion of them are better than you. and if you really do work your way to the upper level of the community in an MMO then you have serious bragging rights. single player games, which are often easily conquered in much shorter periods of time, cannot compare at all to the scale of an MMO.
in this way, it could be speculated that online FPS games with rankings such as Team Fortress, Starcraft, and HALO, are very simple MMO's because you are part of a community and competing against the masses.
in EVE, the challenge for an individual is even greater than most other MMO's, and the veins of competition are even greater still. unlike other games that revolve around PvE content, EVE revolves around its community and PvP aspects. therefore, the "level cap" effect is much lower in EVE, because the goal is not to achieve a finite number of objectives, but rather to continually participate in a community with ongoing competition.
in other MMO's the community is the tools you use to complete an objective (ie- raid guilds in WoW). but in EVE, it's reversed - the objectives are the tools used to build and power the community, and also to fuel the competition among its members. this is what sets EVE apart from most other MMO's... ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

You WROTE IT! Why wouldn't you agree with everything you wrote?
More likely is you attempted to post with your alt agreeing with the OP, but screwed up.
Really sad.

I had to go through the thread twice to make sure I got this right. So the OP posts a long elitist tirade about how he can psychoanalyze everyone who plays Eve. Then he trys to support himself using an alt not once, not twice... but three effin times and each time posts with his main? That is hilarious.
Unless of course he is trying to reach some sort of internet stardom by being the dumbest poster ever.

What was that quote from Braveheart? An Irishman has to either talk to god or himself to find meaningful conversation...
Something like that, anyway.
Eve Error: CANNOT INVITE SELF - It is much more efficient to talk to yourself in person than via the chat system.
That probably goes double for the forums.

Ok it is a cleverly disguised rant on griefers, hmm what to say, hmm.
Personally i think you are an over generalising bigoted idiot for saying: "On soloers. These people don't play MMOs, they want to say they do and feel involved, because they have no life outside of games, or they feel connected to others unlike single player games" What planet are you on? for a start that comment makes no sense and secondly if you want people to read between the lines its utter bullshit, frankly i wish you would just stfu and take your social prejudices else ware.

I think the OP, and pretty much the rest of these forums need to find something better to do than trying to dictate how things should be for other people.
If I'm soloing it's because I choose to, if I'm in a fleet, I also chose that, and surprise, despite any and all protestations on these forums, you can't influence my choices.

Accusations of being an idiot should not be directed at Ekrid, for fear of being proven wrong.
I submit in evidence the following: A thread in which the accused posted a long convoluted OP so devoid of any single point that it left all that read and responded in a state of confusion. Due in no small part to this confusion (I hope), Ekrid has successfully posted in this thread a subsequent five or so times agreeing with himself, and yet I have yet to see an accusation of him being the obvious troll he is.
Thusly, having so misdirected the forum populace, I hereby change the designation of this troll from 'obvious' to 'successful', and declare this thread Made of Win. -

Oh but the beauty of eve is (was?) that one could easely influence your choiches...you know...with guns and ammo.
People that keep arguing that if they pay for the game they should be able to play however they want kinda miss this...sure play however you want as long as you can enforce that play style against other people that don`t want you playing like that.
Isn`t this what eve was suposed to be like? CHOSE your goals and playstyle but ENFORCE and ACHIEVE them YOURSELF or with likeminded people (corps, aliances) and NOT via artificial game mechanic barriers set in place to protect you. Take things into your own hands i guess?
So yes one can influence your choiches by blowing you out of the sky untill you change your ways (dam you CCP for killing this making empire 100% safe...how weird this coming from an antipirate that never ganked random defenceless targets eh? I guess what i`m saying is CCP don`t put antipirates out of business let people handle people and let NPC`s be a non-factor resource..but i guess you don`t see it like this with the fail FW and stuff...)
/wall of text
My views don`t reflect my corps or alliance`s views in any way , and no i won`t bother posting with alts
