Keep in mind being new to interceptor's I am very open to suggestions
I'm thinking... Malediction...
High's: 2 Arbalest Rocket launcher I, 1 small Nos II, 1 Energy Neutralizer II
Meds: 1 Warp Scram I, AB II, ECM
Lows: 2 Overdrive Injector II's, 1 Nanofiber II
Rigs: 2 Polycarbon Engine Housing
Speed: is 2649 and perma runs. (with neutralizer 4m 25 seconds) DPS: Worse then crap (35.1)
Goal: hoping to be able to capture both large and small ships, kill drones wrathed fast, and possibly tax cap enough to wait out the booster/reps to make an occasional kill.
Problems that I see--- no DPS, can't out run missiles, most likely not killing anything but newbies and an occasional cruisers solo.
Pluses: the idea of being able to pop drones fairly easily (which is the point of the rockets) and tackle and hold orbit at 26K permanently, (Also the cycling the neaut).
Experience so far: Not having an interceptor on me today . . . I tried a close fit with an executioner. I small Nos I and 1 small pulse laser I was able to easily get an omen down to armor with its cap stable at 40%.
Now if EFT can calculate this, I don't know how to use the feature. But at to the above a nos II, Energy neut and 35 DPS and you have . . . . I am not sure . . . possibly a dead omen?? The ECM is to break lock on missile ships and once you get webbed to add crucial seconds to your life.
Opinions please . . .

You will live for as long as it takes your target to drop 5x Warrior IIs and click "pwn target".
Oh, and ECM on a non-bonused ship? Forget it, you have about .0001% jam chance. |

Well i'm specialising in flying small ships and i got interceptors covered already. You need T2 Rocket launchers to do good dps. With advanced weapon upgrades to level 3 for my malediction i have the following as my standard fleet set up:
3 Rocket Launcher II Small Knave Energy Drain
Microwarpdrive x5 Prototype Engine Enervator J5 Prototype Warp Inhibtor
Small named repairer DCU Adaptive nano plating II
I can easily switch the MWD with AB (witch i may do soon with the scrambler buff) but i can perma run the MWD anyway. I got all my Rocket Skills to level 4 so i got a max range of 10m to and the rate of fire is 2,38 which is pretty good.
Your set up looks fair but i prefer to have more tank because then you should definately beat frigates even when they web you and malediction is ace because of this. No cap use for its offensive abilities which means you can rep more + you got the bonus to resists which along with armor resist skills and in my case a DCU makes it fairly resistant. but as i said its up to you and the way you play.

Edited by: Eternum Praetorian on 07/09/2008 05:34:58 Now I am admittedly an interceptor noobie so bear with me a sec.
Ive seen a Tyranis take on a Hurricane rather impressively. That was until the pilot accidentally engaged the MWD and he went from 50% shield to 1/2 structure in a second.
At least against a gun ship he seemed better off without one active do to sig radius . . .

AB inty will be doable post-nanonerf, but atm is pretty silly/pointless. And yes Warrior IIs will eat you alive

As long as a cruiser for the exception of the vaga can go faster than ab ceptor, then ab's would still be pointless. And Warriors II will make things even worse. Because of the cap reduction of 24km scrams, I don't see the point in using ab on a ceptor.

I have about 200 solo kills using an AB Ceptor with the following setup:
High 4x Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Amarr Navy Multifrequency S
Mid Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
Low Small Armor Repairer II Adaptive Nano Plating II Damage Control I Heat Sink II
Crazy? Yes. Does it work pre-nano-nerf? Sure, but largely because people aren't expecting it. |

Some do. But then again, some jump through gates or dock as soon as you attack them. Once they engage you employ one of several tactics to get them not to warp off.
1. False assumptions. Pilots often assume you have a point on them rather than a web and thus don't try to warp. This is especially true of experienced pilots. New pilots often try to warp instinctively when going down, older pilots tend to stay in the fight. Inty pilots first instinct is to overload MWD and speed off when taking lots of damage rather than warp. Sadly for them, when webbed, this usually doesn't work.
2. Faking damage When taking on larger ships, it becomes important to fake that you are going down to get them to stay. When taking down Stabbers, Caracals and the like, I often don't or sparingly use the repper until I'm at half structure. They stay because they have the hope of just getting that last shot of and finishing me. Don't estimate the power of an overloaded small repper. But against some smaller ships I use it as well, manage your damage so that you appear to be going down, and then go full out with the repairer near the end of the battle.
3. Overwhelming damage 170 dps is nothing to sneeze at. Some ships try to align, but aligning while webbed is slow, and they simply have made the decision to get out too late. Crow's chasing me and warping in at 0km are a special favorite. They die in less than 10 seconds.
4. Close fights Sometimes it isn't easy to tell when you are going to lose unless it is too late. I'm taking down many blaster Taranises, but those fights usually end with me in structure. By the time the Taranis pilot realizes the outcome of the fight might end with him dying, its usually much too late. I'm happy to say that in the past three months I took down about 20 Taranises solo without a single Crusader loss.
5. Disbelief Stealth Bombers are a popular category for this. They are used to one-volleying a Crusader that sit still in space. This setup can take about three cruise missile volleys before going down, which usually means a dead Stealth Bomber. I've never ever seen a Bomber try to warp after engaging. |

Interesting, I wonder if you can just use that setup after patch and swap the web for a 9km. Thanks for sharing, I've been looking for a close-range sader setup and that might be it! __________________________________

Yes because having both a web and warp disruptor is rubbish, because having high resist is terrible, because having capless weaponary is garbadge and being able to run your repper longer is pointless. Stop thinking about the DPS and think about the uses of the malediction. Yes it may not be the bet solo interceptor but its great when teamed with just one other ship.
I think its you need to change the way you think.

Post Nano-Nerf, AB 'ceptors will be viable in certain circumstances, but a few factors will limit their use and keep MWD 'ceptors popular:
1. Warrior IIs = dead AB 'ceptor. 2. ABs are fine for short approaches or while orbiting, but on longer approaches you'll either die or give your target enough time to leave.
I use 'ceptors for LoSec solo work in belts. They work surprisingly well against cruiser-sized miners and 'ratters. After the Nano-Nerf goes live, I'm considering switching to an AB instead of a MWD in order to let me beef up my DPS and/or tank somewhat. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

And then you ran into a ranis.
Or a crow really, I doubt you can tank the 50 or so dps from a light missile crow. Any t1 cruiser with a web should vaporize you as well. Even with ab active you wont have much transversal with a 90% web slapped on you.

i use a duel web ranis and most of the time they dont. Like 90% of the time they expect to be scrambled and you have the dps to ruin their day before they realise they can warp.

Read the post. I actually make a habit of killing Ranises in this setup. Take a look at the Outbreak Killboard and search for my name. They haven't posted all of my kills, but enough kills for a good sample. I haven't lost to a Taranis 1 vs. 1 in several months, but killed plenty. I mention Outbreak here especially because they are a well-known PvP outfit.
My setup can tank near 50 dps for slightly more than a minutes. If they manage to stay out of web range, you can tank it for long enough to de-agress and get back to a station or gate and jump out. If you get caught by a Crow at range out of range of a gate/station, then you have only yourself to blame. I haven't lost a Crusader in this setup to a Crow ever, but killed plenty of those. Especially those polycarbed Gistii Crows are extra tasty.
What you say about the tracking of T1 Cruisers isn't true. Consider these tracking schematics:
T1 AB, non-maxed skills:
http://www.greyhawk.nl/images/eve/tracking_ab1.gif
T2 AB, maxed skills:
http://www.greyhawk.nl/images/eve/tracking_ab2.gif
Within 2km or so, you are fairly safe. Fortunately, a lot of cruiser pilots think as you do, and usually don't change their style of thinking during combat.
Common wisdom may say the setup doesn't work, but both theory and practice say otherwise.

breaking news, if you take a ship against another ship that is specially designed to kill you, you will lose
useless arguement. every ship should therefore never undock because there is a counter for it out there somewhere.

Ok...alteration of concept. Try this one on for size:
High: 3 Arbalest Rocket Launchers, 1 Small Nos II
Meds: 1MN MWD II, 1 ECM Burst II, 1 Scram II
Lows: 2 overdrive II, 1 Inertial Stabilizer II
Rigs: Poly Carbon Engine Housing I, 1 Low Friction Nozzle Joints 1
This would be a Pre-Nano nerf fit that can easily be altered post Nerf.
DPS = 52.7 Without ECM it perma runs at at 92% (with 1m 7 seconds) Speed: 6,961 (Without MWD speed = 766)
The only issue is that it now has a sig radius of 164.8???

if you are purely going for combat you dont need a warp scram at all. most pilots dont try to warp off haha. I used to fly a double web ranis as well, lots of kills in it.
Hell i used to fly a double web double ecm griffin and could routinely kill ceptors in it.
