He must be a fan of hallucinogens ... after all, I can see through people when I'm on them. Lol.
Truth being said though, the community desperately needs an update from CCP regarding this. It's over-due.
I agree with you 100%. It would be nice to know where they're at with it. Doesn't have to be an estimated time of when it will be ready but just a plain overview of something being accomplished. And maybe a picture of some proof they are working on it for all the skeptics.

Lag is here to stay :/ move out of busy systems
CCP does not currently run 1 server per system (and should), and has only been "researching" solutions, and not actually deploying any.
Until CCP has a solution to put in place they need to start dedicating servers (nodes) to individual systems like they do with Jita, this would reduce the number of systems that share nodes and give the players breathing room until their "solution" is ready.
he did say it the other way around
today it felt like I was lagging a bit while moving through systems (guessing it was from loading the system for the first time (or first time in a long time) but right now missioning and hardly feel any lag.
and solomon, gtfo of irjunen, it has been lagging balls there for a while now (yes I realize I am there too but stfu also I havent run a mission in quite a while now, or really done anything other than change skills on chainsaw)

Well, it's not like CCP has lied to us before or anything. It's also not like I don't have any experience in these matters. I work actually developing high-end network and server hardware and while I probably don't have all the answers, I do have first hand experience in regard to how long projects such as this require and the kind (and quality) of talent you need to retain to make it remotely feasible. It also does not take a rocket scientist to see through to when CCP is being blatantly deceptive and/or evasive.
Do you remember what CCP told the New York Times the CSM's primary purpose was?
Have you noticed how LAG is pawned off in CCP news articles as "cosmic anomalies".
Are you aware how many times CCP has stated the Draftsman Implants introduced over a year ago would be fixed "next patch"? (still not fixed)
How long has CCP claimed they were working on improving the UI, and how long have they spent trying to hire someone actually qualified to do it? (job is still available: http://www.ccpgames.com/jobdetails.aspx?58)
I could keep going here, but you probably get my point. I and others have asked CCP repeatedly and point-blank where they are with their supposed "infiniband upgrade" and have only been met with silence or evasion. This simply implies to me the emperor wears no clothes, and until I am presented with statements from CCP to the contrary, I feel completely justified in my position that there is no tangible progress in regards to the supposed "infiniband upgrade". CCP's core talent is simply busy elsewhere, they have already admitted that a significant amount of the core Dev team has moved over to work on WOD.

Looking into != fixing anything.
Lastly, posts in that thread by the QA department do not actually carry any weight or relevance, QA is not tasked with fixing anything.

You're right its starting to feel more like a troll. Regardless, these whine threads don't really accomplish anything, and my arguing with people about it (its in my nature ) isn't going to solve anything either. So if its that bad for you then stop playing until its fixed. If you feel CCP continues to lie to you then don't give them your money.

You assume I actually pay for my sub.
Whining and/or complaining has been repeatedly demonstrated to be the only way to facilitate change or improvements in EVE.
I'm still hanging out to see if CCP can actually deliver on promises made back since RMR, or, until something better comes along, or I have to actually start paying money to "play".
Otherwise, I would agree that it is starting to sound like trolling, which is NOT my intent. I just want CCP to stop stalling, making excuses and for them to make good on their many promises.

That is absolute minimum customers should expect.
I don't know if CCP falls into that category or not, but they ought to keep paying customers informed. Just ask AOL how they felt about losing multiple class action lawsuits because of lag on their network. AOL lost every one of those lawsuits.

Obviously the tears of carebears have made CCP get more and more fluffy bunny like, so maybe, these whines get listened to as well.
I doubt it because fixing their code is hard, unlike nerfing highsec, but hey let a guy dream.

You've been given a link to the Infiniband thread. There's plenty of info in there from the devs on what they are doing. Do a search on the subject and you'll find some discussion, on what it will do and what it won't do. No doubt there will be more revealed on the subject during this year's Fanfest. I'm sure roll-out dates will be forthcoming once they've progressed enough to be confident of meeting a date, which most punters will add a few months too anyway knowing the industry.
If the lag you've experienced is too much to bear, and you're convinced they are doing nothing despite the evidence given, I don't see the point of continuing this thread. Save us the drama-queen theatrics and go play some other game.

The updates in the thread are old. Maybe if you read this thread a bit, you'll understand that is so far the general consensus. What we want is a progress report of some kind. Maybe an ESTIMATED idea of when we can MAYBE see some improvements. We want a PROGRESS REPORT and as paying customers, we have the right to ask for one. ~Solo Hoist The Colors. (CEO) |

Originally by: Solomon XI The lag. It's severe. Instead of nerfing something else ... why not FIX THE LAG once in for all before you release another damn patch? You want to improve the game and make customers happier? Do something we have been BEGGING YOU TO DO for the last two years.
FIX THE LAG.
Your company makes enough money to increase the number of servers you guys have. I am sure you can even increase the out-going bandwidth. Debug the client. FIX THE LAG! Don't release another patch until you do.
Here is a quote from the last patch notes:
"Database Optimizations and Improvements
* Many database improvements and optimizations have been added to benefit players in many ways, ranging from a better and more efficient development environment on our side to a leaner and faster database on Tranquilty. * The database will now generate population statistics from systems with more than 5 players at any given time. This information will be used to analyze load balancing in heavily populated areas. * Improvements have been made during the start up of Tranquility. These changes minimize the risk of start up problems, reduces the chances of a restart in case of failure and allows us to preload more solar systems. * More analysis data will be collected in order to allow us to investigate reports of disconnects to improve player experience. "
They are working on it.

Guys, lag can't be solved in the actual game status. Not with the actual technology. CCP knows that but they can't admit it, it would be the end of EvE. Don't hope for CCP answer in any threads about lag, you won't get one. They made some mistakes in early game development that can't be rolled back. What do you say, would you agree to eliminate missiles and drones/fighters from the game and to replace them with other instant hitting weapons that don't need trajectory tracking? If the answer is yes, then the question remains if CCP is willing to propose such a dramatic change. I think not, so the Eve will die slowly under the burden of fleet battles and hundred of ratters in some systems.

Edited by: Steve Hawkings on 08/09/2008 12:19:50 The lag will always be there and its not possioble to fix it, Everytime they do improve load on certain systems, more people just go there so it gets worse again. Only way to escape it is to not go to the laggy systems. To all those people that think its just a case of new cpus or more bandwidth/servers LOL. Either go elsewhere (no other game supports 30k concurrent users on one server with no lag) or put up with it.

Only lag i get nowadays is when i go to jita or a sheep farm (mission hub), Sensible PVPers that dont want lag just stay away from fleet fights so any guess what the PVEers should do to avoid it, il give you a clue, its an easy straightforward solution !
Do you not think they would have fixed the lag if they could, without re writing the game ?

No the problem is that 100 people in 1 system cause a lot more lag than 100 people spread over 10 systems
