Somealt Ofmine	Posted - 2008.09.10 19:43:00 - [1] I had an alt in Pure a while back. I have to say, probably the nicest bunch of folks I've ever flown with in Eve. Really. In fact, I remember thinking that they were way too nice to hold space. I guess I was right. The memory that I have of them that illustrates it best is that I'd be kicking around out in one of their droneland systems with my 4 million skillpoint alt ratting, or mining, or whatever, and one of the leaders of the alliance, or one of the FCs, would come into the system and ask me if I minded if they ratted. Just plain nice guys. Everyone rags on them for being nappy, but I think it just reflects their personalities. I remember when they trooped off to fight BoB, and why. They were genuinely cheezed off about the T20 thing. Not the cynical forum trolling posturing kind of cheezed off. I mean genuinely cheezed off. I guess it's the kind of thing that would cheeze a nice guy off. Just seemed odd to me that guys like that would jump into the middle of a bunch of world class asshats like BoB and Goons. Never really could see them as the kind of guys who would lie to your face to try to get a spy in, or get admin rights so they could crash your shit in the middle of a fight. Point here isn't really to defend them, or rag on them. Just seems to me that you can't be as nice as they seemed to me to be and do what it takes to win in Eve '08. There are plenty of folks will do what it takes. Whatever it takes. Pretty tough for guys that nice to beat them.

I simply want to reverse the misconception that Goons are bad people. Surely, there are some goons who have made certain posts. However, that is the prevailing interaction that many of you people have with Goons. Now, Goonswarm itself has a policy against this. I will not go into it except to say that people who act that way are dealt with. The important point here is that goons are upstanding people, and we deal with our own rabble-rousers. If people here have issues, I suggest they take it up in game. Anything else would simply be doing exactly what you are talking down to us for. GS may not be GF, but goons is goons, and you can't trust them. Sorry if you don't like it, but you're tainted by the company you keep. You can't expect people not to take issue with goons after what they've done in the past.

I really dislike how they comport themselves both in-game and on the forums. It's their stated purpose, and to take them at both their words and their actions isn't unreasonable. It's kind of hard to accept that someone might expect honorable treatment when their alliance hasn't ever really acted with honor.

Maybe some do, but me- I just don't trust them, and nothing I've ever seen them do, either in-game or out, would lead me to think I ever would. Don't take it personally; it's not a slam on you or anyone specifically. But you are judged by the company you keep, and to many in EVE, that's not good company.

In that case: Pure is horrible. They didn't help invade Delve out of some righteous indignation. They helped invade Delve because they were riding on the biggest bandwagon Eve has ever seen. They went South because they thought they could blend in with the crowd, maybe snag a few moons when Bob was dead, and that if maybe, just maybe, Bob survived, that Bob would forget all about them. Wrong. Bob did survive and now Bob is taking its revenge on all the Northern napmonkeys who took a seat on that big wide bandwagon. And what does Pure do? Fold. They aren't even putting up a fight for their systems. It's one thing to fight and lose. It's quite another to be too timid and too afraid of losing ships to even try to resist. When you do that, you lose something far more important than ships: your good name (if Pure ever had one), your pride and your self-respect. Go down fighting and you can at least say you gave it your best shot. Instead, slink out the door with your tail between your legs like a *****. Pure is choosing the latter.

I was only sort of able to read that. However, as my RL friend who is a PR Specialist says, your average person really has no idea what they're looking at, responding to, or talking about. I know that you like to do nasty things in other mmo's like second life( and i don't care it's a rubish game after all) but what is astonishing you were able to make a bad name in eve where everybody apart from highsec missioners and miners are sociopaths that pray on other people missery (and i aprove i like this aspect of the game). Just think a moment about it. We acknowlage the presense of the goons we know what they are capable to do and have respect for that. Just don't tell us they are good people cause they aren't. I don't think you get BoB, or your might be a newer Bobbit that is being treated like a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed bullshit). They're nice guys, and probably have no business in a fight with the likes of BoB. Fundamentally, I think you have to think about how far you're willing to go, both in game and meta-game, to hold space. How important is it to you really? If you aren't willing to do whatever it takes to win, and your opponent is, bottom line is, you're going to lose. Folding is probably the smartest thing they can do. See, I think you're completely sincere here. I think that your actual pride and self respect are tied in to how you do in this game. I think that's true of many folks who reach the highest levels. It's what gives them their "the ends justify the means" outlook on the game. I think if you want to play at the highest level, you have to accept that that is where the bar is set. If it isn't that important to you, you're not going to be as willing to do anything it takes as a BoB is, and you'll lose to them every time. For what its worth, I don't think this thread belongs in coad. This is more a discussion about what it means, and what it takes, to progress in this game beyond a certain level. I don't think you can be a "nice guy".

It's called fun. Right here you accidentally stumbled right onto the heart of the matter. BoB considers it fun to go and invade someone, pure does not. This is the fundamental reason why one is having more success than the other. Over and over again throughout the game, all other things aside, the more aggressive organization tends to out-do the more passive one. The passive side gets tired of constant fighting, wants breaks, and gradually loses numbers, slowly becoming less and less effective, while the aggressive side thrives off of the conflict, maintaining their numbers, and having more and more success. It's not that one side is "good" and the other isn't, it's that they enjoy the type of gameplay that leads to 0.0 success (namely constant warfare) while you and your friends do not.
