Edited by: BiggestT on 13/09/2008 13:10:03 Every thing below is apparently true in accordance to the history of EVE after a few vets were chatting about it on ts once..Believe it or not but this is not a troll..
Here goes:
-Battlships were often fitted with cruiser weapons and tank as very few could afford or use bs sized weapons
-Jove ships have indeed been destroyed before, a 99.99% resists jove frig was once insta-popped and a jove hauler was once popped.
-The popped hauler had in the cargo hold a special type of mining laser: tech5! they had a blue tag and 3 corporations ended up with these lasers
-A "jove representative" (ccp of course) contacted the corps that had said lasers and asked them to form up at a rally point to give them back for a reward, the reward was the first t2 bpo's (Mining lasers) 6 months before t2 bpo's were released!
-(most awesome) A pilot was jumping from system to system once when he was magically pulled out of jumping (theres an eve chronicle similar to this). He was dropped into a station where everything cost 100isk (like sisi) and required no skills. The pilot attained a jove mothership (serious!) it was that alliances flagship until the ship was 'commandeered' (taken back).
-(most funny) In the days before rr-ing a player flagged by concord was illegal, one pilot camped a busy stargate in yulai and started off with 17+ bs's rr'ing him while he blew up concord and every ship that went past! CCP cld not stop this as it was well within game mechanics, all they cld do was pile on the concord..The aggressing pilot called for more and more rr untill something AWESOME happened..A message popped up to the fleet saying something along the lines of "This is what happens when you exploit CCP's game" (not sure on excact wording) and the ENTIRE 150 odd man fleet was picked up and dropped 200 jumps away! Apparently only about 3 made it back..
Think what you will but this is not a troll. CCP simply were much more interactive with the player base back when manging eve was a tad easier... /me goes back to dreaming of t5 bs guns... edit:typo

Hm i doubt this one to be honest. Yea, sometimes some players got the opportunity to go to the part of the EVE map where CCP test things (the not open region on the map). But i doubt the "jove mothership" part, we know of frigs/BS but never cap-ships. Maybe he got confused on this one.

Its possible that they were mistaken for a jove bs, as they werent in the allaince so the allaicne may have been exxagerating...It may have been before caps even, so thats more than likely the case..

And it was literally around the 6-8month mark that most people could finally afford battleships. New players today say they have it tough, they have no idea !

don't forget about the 4 conchord generals. Muu used to camp conchord and blow up anyone coming by using spider tanks and other such things.
SO a dev blog was releaed in which CCP introduced the 4 chord gernals which made quick work of the muu campains.

Your 'awsome history' is some of the most corrupt info ever, either gleaned from forums by OPs posting pure hear-say, or simply 'chinease whispers' style.
Originally by: biggestT -The popped hauler had in the cargo hold a special type of mining laser: tech5! they had a blue tag and 3 corporations ended up with these lasers
No, there was only 1 Tech 5 Nibelung Mining Laser, and it was given to a Pilot in space by an art director that had GM tools. The charatcer promptly logged off, and later sold it to a corp, which later traded it with a GM for thethe First Miner II bpo, Before R&D agents in game, and the highest agents were level 3.
GM's caved to Forum whines from the 1 month wiating lists for 10 mil isk Miner II's (i was the very first person on the wiating list, it was drawn up by posting 'x' in a ingame channel, and then given out by posting order after a set time). soon after more miner II bpos were released, aswell as Micro aux power core bpos, and some other print i cant remember through lvl 3 agents.
Originally by: BiggestT -(most funny) In the days before rr-ing a player flagged by concord was illegal, one pilot camped a busy stargate in yulai and started off with 17+ bs's rr'ing him while he blew up concord and every ship that went past!
TankCEO had 99% resists from resistance mods pre-stacking penalty nerf, didn't need rr'ing bs's, and he was given a warning after popping some newbies while tanking.
Its amazing how history is corrupted over time, but will be interesting to see how these are further embelished over time.

Sorry if i came across as grumpy in my last post, but i didnt like your final note
Originally by: BiggestT Think what you will but this is not a troll. CCP simply were much more interactive with the player base back when manging eve was a tad easier...
CCP 'being interactive' (medelling ingame and spawning items) sent these forums on fire many times with complaints of 'wtf favortism?' and generally their antics left imbalaces that took months to correct.
Interaction and abuse of GM tools are two completely seperate things.
As far as te lack or STAR event teams and community events being removed, thats a completely different grumble all together...

Someone correct me on any wrong parts.
But back in the 03, when m0o first started camping in Lonetrek I believe, someone needs to remind me of the actual system. The forum whiners at the time were in full force. So full that CCP decided that they would spawn in Dev (or GM) controlled CONCORD ships, in lowsec. All the players ran, except for The Reverend, who succeeded in attacking a CONCORD BS and getting himself spectacularly blown up.

- The first BS in game was a Dominix and it belonged to a member of m0o (I can't remember who off the top of my head).
- You used to find high end ores in low security systems, even Arkanor, before the mineral redistribution.
- There didn't used to be any "Super Highways" and traveling from one region took for ever. Especially when you consider that the closest you could warp to any object was 15km.
- Warp gates used to dump you into space near a planet in the target system (JIP - Jump In Point) before it was changed to "Gate to Gate".
- Micro Warp Drives used to be "One Size Fits All" and there were originally no meta types or NPCs drops for them either. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

àAccessing files.
*WARNING* Files may have been damaged by consumption of adult beverages. Data may be damaged!
1. Everyone was in a race to get to battleships, as they could tank the best, and could kill everything, since tracking was not an issue at the time. And yes, a Battleship could smoke a frig even at speed very easily. And torps did splash damage. 2-5. Joe is correct, an Art department type was mining, and a player chatted him up and begged for cool toys. The Art director spawned the T5 laser, and gave it to the player. The player then sold it to T.T.I. (Tagart Trans-dimensional Industries.) (($%^$ Tagart and his alt Roarke where a MASSIVE PITA to deal with, good riddance)) T.T.I. traded it to the GMÆs for the T2 laser bpo. Which they later sold to Techell. 6. Not true. Back in the day, you could set your death clone to activate in Jove space. Undock -> self destruct-> wake up in a freaky organic looking station. Market was crap tho. 7. Not true. Tank CEO was killing with wild abandon 1 jump from the Amarr starter system that I forget the name of. But it had nothing to do with his tanking ability. It had to do with the fact he already had a -10.0 sec rating. Since his sec could no longer drop, the Eve system never sent a Concord kill notice. Concord did not respond to his agro. I lost a Moa to that jerk there, and he got banzored for a while.
Keep in mind Eve was a different place then, and the GM/DEVs had a much more cowboy attitude towards the player base. CCP did get far more directly involved with stuff, and it was a big deal. Does anyone else here remember the mad Jove general blasting through Angel space in his Eidolon? Good times.

This is likely a VERY very mutated account of the guy who found he could change his cloning station to a system in jove space and then had a friend kill him. Once there he proceeded to buy an Eidolon (jovian battleship) but didnt have the skills to fly it.
He went around and took pictures until the GM's moved him back to highsec and closed off the jovian cloning stations.

Heh heh, If there was a Scorpion in game before "j0rt"'s Dominix, then the owner sure didn't do as much with it as he/she could have.
But, if you are questioning if I did proper research, then I can assure you, that when "WE" were flying about during the beginnings of EVE, there was a "1st BS" and it was in "m0o" and it was a "Dominix", so my "research" was being here, in game when it counted, and not having to rely on some EVE History site, and you know why ? Because I was here when that EVE history was written.
It may be, that some other production alt managed to get a BS Scorpion out of the door before m0o, but I'm sure as hell that he/she didn't make a name with it. Who knows, they might never have even made a kill with it. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Warp Drive Active Podcast #37 - Urban & Blinky interview Ragnar (of "Magic Hat" fame), who explains his version of what happened here.
It starts in at 1 hour 27 minutes (was a very long show, that one)
Edit: They also talk with some MOO members later, as well, who had some stories about the ol' days.
Also interviews with Pan & the guy from Simon & Schuster who were involved early on.
Actually, the whole podacast is just great, and covers a lot of the early history & stories. Probably their best episode, overall. _______

j0rt had the first Dominix if I recall correctly. The first Battleship fight was between 2 m0o battleships (j0rt and Ywev iirc) and 2 russians, can't remember the name of the corp. The setups were medium Arty 650mm 'Scouts', as they were the best gun in game. The Bs's on the russian side had all gyro's fitted to the low slots and totally out damaged the m0o ships.
I had a character called Jay Yamato in m0o at the time, he's no longer with us though. I tried to move away from pirating after CCP reset all the -10 sec status people early on, but no corp wanted an ex pirate.

Aside from the Jove mothership it's all true.
The CCP art director at that time (Tortifrans?) spoke with a miner of a small corporation and gave him the Nibelung Mining Laser, which would mine about 350m3 / cycle. Then this pilot, out of innocence, sold it to a corporation in the north.
After using it for a while and making screenshots of an alliance mining operation where one of the mining apocalypse (the best mining ship back then with 8 turrets) was using it. A lot of forum drama followed and CCP decided to remove the unique mining laser from the game by trading it for a Miner II BPO.
This was the first Tech II BPO. It required no special skills and no components to build, only minerals. The copy time was such that it was more efficient to manifacture rather then copy, as it is still with most bpo today. With only one such BPO in game, the holder was making a huge fortune selling Miner II for up to 15mil each, which was a huge amount of money back then.
After a few weeks of this going on, another pilot who ran 200+ level 3 missions was rewarded with it's own Miner II BPO, making it the second in-game.
A bit later, there was an event with a rogue jove general having a battle with other jove ships somewhere in the south. There was an announcement to an upcoming battle and lots of pilots went there. It was said that some of the npc spawns would drop Miner II BPO and other such things. We had gangs in battleships trying to control the field, and we had a lot of solo frigates trying to get their hands on the loot and run away. In this event Tyrell corp foun their Miner II BPO.
More forum drama occured, with whines about possible favoritism (from those who didn't bother to show up for the event and would rather have everything handled to them, rings a bell?).
CCP were trying to introduce Tech II BPO one by one in this manner, with custom storylines and events. Because of the whining they designed the Tech II lottery system that most should know about.

First, people used cruiser guns on bs because they were better not because people couldn't afford them.
Second, it was Zombies doing remote rep smartbombing in Yulai. You can watch it in part 2 of drunkenmaster's video. Tank CEO was only using an exploit where CONCORD would only react to security drops. He got to -10 and they stopped reacting.
Third.. actually, most of that is pretty wrong. lols
Even the last line. CCP stopped intervening and interacting because every time they did, the corps that benefited were accused of being CCP favorites. And that whole Miner II fiasco gave a few people an unbreakable, artificial monopoly.

What happened to the special events anyway? I remember when myself and Drantis ran into 4 serpentis freighters in Syndicate and they offered us 2b each to escort them to Orvolle.

If I recall correctly, used to be able to use the plaid speed you got from the multiple mwds to fly to another system, quite slowly I might add. Also my friend that got me into eve said you used to be able to hit warp for set distance? Not sure on that one. The first I got what appeared to be 1/2 way between 2 systems and had to use a bm to get back as I'd run out of cap 4-5 times getting that far.

Later they fixed it: patch notes: You cannot place a Planck generator container within another Planck generator, as it will cause a graviton harmonics chain reaction whose end cannot be determined.

Yulai event was awesome, choise of weapon was made due to Concord jamming, not 17 bs's, if I remember correctly they were 9 remote repping and cap the obvious choice of ship Apoc, I was there in a hauler to pick up loot if any survived smartbomb hell (duh no) . The rules did not state that this was illegal fyi, those had been read thoroughly before commencing this greatest massacre ever, every person on AP to amarr got annhialated and EVE system first saw local 300+.
What did get us banned was GM's demanding we didn't obey their orders to stop, ofcourse the account running the smartbombs was totally fubarred and unable to do anything and he had to be transferred to get out of laghell.
However, everyone who lost a ship during this event did get them reimbursed.... even Joshua Calvert (only one I really wished for would not get his stuff back excessive forum spammer).
There was also a time there were no insurances and Zombie tanked sentry guns in 0.4 systems below and locked down ships with webs and jammers and would open up a conversation with the pilot and demand ransom in exchange for release (and honored it), haulers weren't offered that choice (goodies in cargo). If ransom could not be extracted they bought the ships (20 mill domis ftw).

some small corrections:
- zombies is a corp, not a person. and they tanked concord in yulai using RRŠs.
- cruiser weapons once were all there was for BS. After that they rmeained the better option for a while. I used to hunt 55K isk cruiser npcŠs (nothing bigger ingame at the time) using heavy beams on a megathron.
other facts:
- late 2003 there was a "hidden" belt craze. At the time asteroid belts often covered multiple grids in space and no NPCŠs would spawn outside the grid with the belt location ŠflagŠ in it. So you could park a fleet of indies in deep 0.0 in an ark belt and leave them to mine arkonor afk all day untill you came back.
- sutty once podded himself using the eject command, torpedoes and splash damage, we still laugh at him over that one.
- a player called Deathwing once came quite close to assasinating the amarr emperor. The gmŠs still donŠt like him (altho that could have to do his colourfull language too).
- You used to be able to chainspawn npcŠs at an alarming rate untill you ended up just smartbombing one every few seconds at their fixed spawn point. CCP outlawed that, then changed the mechanics.
- ships left in space would sometimes get a will of their own and ended up warping around the system, good for much hilarity.
- NPC convoys in high sec used to drop some awesome goods, like harvester drones or loads of trade goods. Using alts to take the standings hit you could farm them quite well.
- ThereŠs lots of nice tales surrounding the Jokers corp. RPfng pirates and generally admired.
- before scan probes people scanned down safespots manually, using the Šcreate bookmarkŠ command midflight and good timing. That led to many a hilarious forum post as well.
maybe more later, got work to do.

TankCEO's killing spree in Sarum Prime was down to nothing more than Sarum Prime being a 0.4 security system, and the jump-in point being nowhere near a gate. An awful lot of newbies got send there in missions, and would find themselves in a clone bay before the system had even loaded up. Eventually - and not necessarily just because of Tank's antics - gate-to-gate jumping was introduced; Sarum Prime became 1.0; and ships were cloaked for a minute while the new system loaded up.
His messing about because his sec status was at -10 and therefore never dropping and triggering a CONCORD response, was someplace else. I forget where, but probably Yulai. In the very, very early days, Yulai was a backwater arse-end-of-nowhere place, till the highway came in. ________________________________________________

I'm sure the first Domi belonged to RUS corp and they chased M0o around in it (hinting they weren't really good guys anyway.)
-The claim that m0o were intentionally lagging gatecamps with CC's
-The Stain event with the Jove was when (some of the) T2 mining laser Bps got dropped.
-The UBERPIRATE! patch and rollback (oh the tears lolz)
-The Stuck in Station bug
-The "insert random object model" sticking to your ship (planets, stations,Roids, collections of objects) and warping with you.
-Every NPC set to kill Everlasting Vendetta Corp (outside of one system)
-CTD's so often it wasn't funny (before Castor) like every 2 - 8 mins..
-NPC convoys in high sec used to drop all sorts (including thousands of Harvesters at a time) and you could use a cargo scanner on them.
-Mines in space.
-Plans and fantastic stories of for all sorts of amazing things from the devs = Soon(tm) interbus, comets in space, system wide roid belts, black holes, the Jove again.

Maybe they still exist and I don't know about them, but there used to be places, I forget what they were called, where waves of NPC's spawned. They weren't complexes, missions or belts or anything conventional, just hidden spots. I had bm's to one but a patch removed all my bm folders so I could never figure out where it was. Then bm's got wiped out anyway.
Speaking of BM's many I'm sure remember flying around in a fast frig making gate to gate bm's so as not to have to fly 15km to jump. There was a whole bm market.
Also, back in the day Yulai was the major trade hub, not Jita.

Edited by: Canine Fiend on 07/10/2008 15:40:23 I don't think these have been mentioned before... slightly newer than the first days of EVE but still about 4 years ago...
Torpedoes not only had splash damage as some people stated, but would also hit whatever was in front of them, whether it was the intended target or not, which meant flying large ships in the way of war targets so they would get concordokkened, or avoiding a missile ship in an asteroid belt because their missiles would hit the roids and never hit you.
It used to be very common to add two MWDs to a ship to make them accelerate to absurd speeds, Dual MWD ravens which fired torps that hit you in huge globs at once were absolutely terrifying
It was possible to fit cruise missile launchers on things like caracals (a full fitting of them) which made for some pretty epic damage out of pretty small ships
Someone mentioned the Curse minerals going missing, it was actually the Xetic minerals, and I know who took them

This one was an awesome skill that some developed, it was possible because despite there being hundreds of thousands of KM between warp points, the EVE system only kept track of a few specific points along this line when you made bookmarks, so if you got lucky enough you could actually make a bookmark on top of someone. It's a shame probes came into play and got rid of this skill, because it made finding someone so much more rewarding, and most importantly it stopped people from keeping things in safespots (Cruisers and sometimes if you were really lucky even a battleship were often found just sitting in space because someone thought they'd made an unbustable safespot)

My first battleship was an Armageddon. In those days one of the best NPC spawning sites was somewhere out in Genesis that had 50k cruisers. Yes! 50k cruisers!
Anyway, there I was, firing away at these cruisers and getting an awesome 50k for each one I killed, when who turns up but a pair of Polly blackbirds.
Luckily, I got out before they could warp jam me.

While I'm myself a tad newer (even when this isn't my oldest character), I do remember the following EVE legends I believe have not been mentioned yet: - m0o corp (masters 0f ownage) camping Mara and Passari systems. They were eventually driven out by CONCORD (GMs in invincible ships). - Any missile shot out of any launcher. Cruise missile frigates. - EVE database has been rolled back exactly once. This happened after some spawn broke and started spewing out really valuable drops, which was quickly exploited. - (semi-mentioned by DigitalCommunist): There used to be no stacking penalty. Damage mods had bonuses on top of bonuses, resulting in huge amounts of damage. Due to multiple low slots on top of the built-in bonus, the Armageddon was the king of the hill. Maller was amongst the best ships, as well. - Everyone used to shield tank. Thus, the Scorpion was the best-tanking ship in the game. - Instead of chance-based, target jamming used to be point-based, like warp scrambling is now. - Talking about warp scrambling, warp core stabilizers didn't have any bonuses (relatively recent nerf!). This led into some people trying to use multiple WCS in combat fits trying to make sure they could escape. - Lasers used to take less cap, while having good damage. This resulted in lasers being used across the board. - Ships used to have one bonus only. Additionally, Caldari hybrid bonus was to railguns only, Gallente hybrid bonus to blasters only. - You could field as many drones as you could fit into your bay. (?) - There used to be no tracking for guns. (I.e. target speed did not matter.) - Locking times used to be constant. If a ship doesn't have a sensor strength modifier, this is the fallback method. (Shuttles, see "It is a Templar, an Amarr fighter drone used by carriers. It can be assigned to shuttles, but I hear the shuttles don't tank too well.")
That's what I do remember. Some might be slightly off.

-A "jove representative" (ccp of course) contacted the corps that had said lasers and asked them to form up at a rally point to give them back for a reward, the reward was the first t2 bpo's (Mining laser II's) (Update: Apparently only one laser was dropped and one corp traded it to the GM..) 6 months before t2 bpo's were released! (Update: There was such a high demand for the first mining lasers that there was an apparent 10-month waiting list! CCP later introduced BPO's 1 by 1, such as when there was an event with a rogue jove general having a battle with other jove ships somewhere in the south, a miner II BPO was going to be dropped, in this event Tyrell corp found the Miner II BPO. After whines from the player base about this systems unfair design, the t2 BPO lottery was soon implemented).
Sorry this is false....TechII minning laser BPO was a rewared from a agent. No corp involved unless you count a noob corp...The player who was rewarded the BPO sold the units for 12 million a pop...and there was not a waiting list....

- CCP reimbursing players with free online-time when downtimes got out of hand. Longest downtime experienced by me was somewhere around 6 hours sceduled, streched out to about 36 hours followed by a few days of highly unstable logins and lots of CTD's. Castor sounds about right...
- RMR (Red Moon Rising) used to be called Kali for ages before it went live.
- I remember a fixed spawn of 2 Angel Depredators and 1 Angel Marauder in Horaka.... and they had NPC pirate frigates near the gates.
- A Mammoth at skill 4 with its lowslots filled with 19,6% cargo expanders had a really big cargo-hold.

A few things hehe, good old times here:
- Ships used to fly on when you ejected, so if you had a MWD or AB activated or even warped, the ship would sail into the wild blue yonder without any chance of catching up. A lot of people lost their ship that way!
- Kestrels fitted with cruise missiles made nice suprise packages.. A bullet, Laser beam or Plasma charge may have your name on it..... A Smartbomb or Shrapnel is adressed "To whom it may concern"... |

Thou are definitely much like a bard of old, both receiveing and relaying the boasts of the great heros of older times to the new and eager ears in a changed world. (Keep up the work, even if not accurate i do like getting to read some of the ideas, and who knows maybe they'll give people some rather epic ideas for new chronicles or fan fictions. Look at modern stories, often the old and highly embellished tales of old become the inspiration for many a modern tale) Anonymity is not an excuse to be and *******. Think before you post. |

My memories:
You used to be able to fit cruise missiles on a kestrel.
You used to be able to get Capital Ship BPOs and other assorted valuables for under 1m isk, or nothing, from escrow. Escrow camping was a lucrative profession.
There used to be an Eve fan site dedicated to finding random stuff like abandoned stations with nothing else around them that existed in random areas of space.
2+ mwd's on a ship used to be win.
Goonswarm used to go round on masse killing people in noob ships.
People used to buy full region sets of gate to gate bookmarks for upwards of 50m isk.
Shield Boost Amp I and Expanded Cargohold I BPOs used to be worth loads.

We used to be able to attack and destroy the turrets that guard the NPC 0.0 stations.
We used to shoot at the NPC stations in 0.0 just to mess around and see how hard we could hit it.
Then one patch they buffed the guard turrets and made shooting the station cause aggro to them - many people lost bships in the following week =P
"Battle Badgers" were a very common and useful addition to fleet engagements, they were usually equipped with ECM.

Before POS and moon mining existed, L4 agents handed out T2 components as mission time bonus rewards.
Also, when L4 missions were first introduced, mission NPCs actually dropped a substantial amount of loot, and had bounties equivalent to 0.0 belt rats. For all that people claim L4 missions are overpowered now, they have actually already been nerfed by quite a bit. |

Once there was a so called armageddon day. I am not 100% sure when it was since it was quite some time ago. Also i do not remember if it was on one of the first major server upgrades or due to an expansion (someone correct me if i am mixing up things here).
On the armageddon day the servers where done for 1 day and ccp has setup a backup server and changed all systems into 0.0 and mirrored all characters. Best 24h eve downtime we have ever seen :).

Edited by: Rhaven on 20/11/2008 02:28:36 In beta the jump in points were fairly random in system I remember jumping into a systema dn being inside a station and stuck till I docked.
Apocs were the ship of choise for miners
closest you could warp to a gate was 15km so ppl made BM 15km behind the gate to use as a warp to to end up right on the gate or close to it. THere were ppl that made a ton of isk producing and selling BM packs for regions.
Yulai was the Trade center of EVE intill they turned off a few gates and added a few other gates to make it harder to get to. Then Jita because one of the main trade centers.
POS's introduced and the pos guns were inside the shields and you could lock and fire on targets outside of the shield with your ship while not being able to be targeted yourself.
Beta Armageddon day was so laggy that ppl were losing ships to NPCs after they jumped through a gate before they even loaded the next system. you would show up and you would be in your pod witha kill mail in your inbox for being killed by a NPC. |

Edited by: Matting on 20/11/2008 04:24:40 I'm not really that old in EVE and I really like these history threads!
I recently have been going through old devblogs, patch notes and old eve player made movies.
I did find a few interesting things that I never knew about.
From here: http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/patchnotes.asp?patchlogID=15
- Armor Repairer has been moved from medium slot to low slot.
- Afterburners and MicroWarpdrives have partially been size and ship classed, they will now take mass of the ship into count when giving speed boost to favor lighter ships more than slots.
(Mentioned in this thread)
- Warp Core Stabilizer I has been moved to low slot and is now passive as well (activation not needed).
(what slot was it?)
- No more missile to missile collisions (except for defender missiles)
And here: http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/patchnotes.asp?patchlogID=10
- The duration of insurance coverage has been expanded from one week to three weeks with no price increase.
(Not sure when it changed again)
- Shield boosters should now boost at the start of their duration rather than at the end.
- Shield Hardeners that boosted one's resistance attribute have been reduced from a 70% increase to a 50% increase.
Other
- Fixed the module fitting bug where if you were quick, you could fit more than one module into the same slot.
- Minmatar cruisers and battleships have had their speed bonus removed, instead they will get much more base speed and now also ROF bonus (Rate of Fire) for projectile weapons per navigation skill level. This does not apply for Minmatar frigates.(Patch notes worded wrong?)
- Amarr shuttle no longer flies backwards.
- Microwarpdrive now has more penality on armor and shield
- The max range for stasis webifiers has been increased alot, Stasis Webifier I for example will now operate up to 10.000 meters. (Anyone know what they were before this?)
- Sentry guns have had a free firmware upgrade and will no longer pod players.
Seeing as I'm not very old I found these interesting and added some comments/questions to the end. If anyone could answer some that would be great!

As it has evolved the bugs etc. have been ironed out more systems of control have appeared and the rules are fixed and clear. That leaves fewer surprises and a more sanitised world, strictly speaking a better one but not as much fun.
Rather like the real world as progressed in recent years!

The bit mentioned about static spawn points was true. We had one point we found that was 400k or so from a belt. If anyone in system got a particular mission, the final room NPC's would spawn off of the belt. You could fly on over and kill them.
There used to be other points like this as well. I've got a bookmark for a .3 system where the warp-in point to a Moon was 60k away from a dead NPC station. The containers had Defunct Drone Control Units (or similar name...I still got some but not in game to check.) I always wanted to put up a POS there and use it as a safe spot to train noobs. The rats were sufficiently strong that it took 2 BS's or so to clear it, and they were constantly respawning. Dipping into the shields of a POS would have made it quite the farming spot.
I should go see if its still there. Was over 2 years ago.

I remmeber being a noob 4 n half years ago, i was only in game a coupel of weeks and looking to buy a cruiser. I was looking through market and came across a Guardian Vexor for 12mill. Back then i obviously had no idea of what it was and thought WTF do i pay extra 8 mill just for a missile launcher on a vexor for? i couldnt use missiles at the time and i only had 13 mill to buy and fit ship so i left it..... DOH!! how i wish i could travel back in time and slap my noob self now i know more bout the game lol
Far as i know there was 10-15 bpcs released for an in game event similar to what was supposed to have been federate/navy Dominix's during the last Gallentean Presidential elections where u got the gold statues (1 wwhich i still have) and the peopel who had the most statues got rewarded the ship, they then changed it from a Dominix to a Megathron (pretty sure Federate) |

On ething that has just come back to me reading about the dead NPC station in the post above my last one. Do NPCs still drop the flight logs/records?
example u used to get a log u could read which said
Received orders from the great one to reinforce the supply station in xxxx
u then went to the system and it had a lil warp to spot where NPC's spawned (a bit liek the deadspace areas now)
just wondered if the logs still dropped or not. |

This is just plain wrong. An expansion a long time ago got rid of the "super highways". Yulai was the center of the universe, and every major system was only a few jumps away from it. Amarr was around 5 jumps, Rens was 2 or 3 jumps, etc. It was actually much faster to travel back then.
Another piece of history, you could fit any size missiles into any size launcher, and they used to travel in a straight line, hitting anything in their path. If npcs were on the other side of a belt, the missiles would explode on roids (or other player's ships in the way, resulting in concord response). They also traveled REALLY slow. |

FFS blizzard you know when my birthday is, make it happen:P
Hehe, i remember this too, it was only last year. It was such an event, that every1 tried to log in as soon as the armageddon day server (on sisi) was available. It put such stress on the server that no-one could login, so we took to the forums. In the space of several hours, the thread grew to 100 pages (an epic threadnought). Theres still sigs around with "I survived Armageddon day", which originated form that thread.
Oh and ive still got some of a dread km from back then in emp lol:
"Involved parties:
Name: BiggestT (laid the final blow) Security: 0.1 Alliance: NONE Corp: Deep Core Mining Inc. Ship: Phoenix Weapon: Rift Torpedo I
Name: Jack Phox Security: 3.1 Alliance: NONE Corp: Caldari Provisions Ship: Phoenix Weapon: Wasp II
Name: M4sterm1nd Security: 4.7 Alliance: NONE Corp: DarkStar 1 Ship: Revelation Weapon: Revelation"
Unfortunately i dont have who i popped, or what system it was in...

26 kills in 2 months? thats bad for a ferox, i know one guy in max that had 141 kills in a ferox in a month.
I think this is my first cve post after a year and a half playing, and i just had to say, What a Plonker.

does anyone remember the F11 loads of km away safespots ?
depending on the ship u were using u had to drain ur cap a bit/lot before warping to it.
I made one on the fly in a pod and didn't thought about it and well warping to the point and back into the system took me nearly 1hour .. :/

about the jove stuff...
There used to be a storyline event where jovians brought new technology into empire and there was a really huge convoy (as i heared, i was to busy doing other stuff and could not be arsed to take a look at it). I also heared that some ppl have been shooting the convoy but can not say if anything got blown up or not.
Armegeddon day was the last day of BETA the day before EVE went gold. Everything cost 100 isk and everyone had maxed out skills.

A torp used to do 1000's of damage to frigs, could be fired from cruisers also they could hit after your ship was destroyed.
Although few could afford them but suicide kestrels were in a league of their own back then as they could fire cruise missiles too ^^.
In the early days I got a fair few kills from my last salvo hitting just after I died, was funny to be both sat there in pods and talking in convo "so I guess it's a draw?" :D

It was repeated in the later half of 2007 during a patch, it was on SiSi. EVE history

Edited by: Eben Rochelle on 22/01/2009 09:16:35 I have been to Jove spce with the clone bug and so has an undisclosed friend of mine who bought a BS for the afforementioned 100isk, insured it with all of his available isk and SD'd it for a tidy sum.
He then chickend out and go the hell out of dodge in case CCP found out and haxx0rd his gibson. this was "fairly" recently (around the time FE, PA, NBSI and IRON owned the north just before .5 waltzed in.)
*edit we didnt see any funky ships on the market but then we were to concerend with what we thought was an amazing scam to be looking, nor did we know what to look for tbh...

I will never ever complain about the UI again.
CCP needs to create a 'codec' (or is it codex?) in game that has all the significant player lore. It should be fragments hidden in 10/10 complexes and officer spawns. That would awesome and cool. |

There is a screenshot on eve-files (somewhere) where it shows a freighter which has approx 1.1m mk3 space.
alas i can't find the screenshot. I think the pilot was Khatred.... but i don't know for sure. I was packed! with salvaging components which at that point in time cost a fortune.
Also tracking wasn't implemented correct in the beginning so every shot would hit for full. Meaning that Tachyons where everyone's favorite as the ROF was very nice :)
Hidden belts. There where hidden belts in 0.0 which didn't contain any NPC's. These belts where full of nice little roids. Arkonor etc etc. Aaaaahhh the good times of mining arkonor in an industrial afk. This made me my first 100m (toke me weeks) and i bought my first dominix with it.
Last thing i can remember is dat it was possible to put multiple items in a slot. You did the following: Stack 10 expanders and then drop into a low slot. You would gain 10 times the space
Rex
P.S. This could become a very nice thread for everyone who has played eve from the beginning.

No, I believe BoB got a sabre bpo+ammo bpo's from t20 but I wouldn't be surprised if bob leaders didn't even know that he created them out of thin air instead of winning them in the raffle.
This was like euhm, 2 years earlier BoB didn't even exist back then (evol was in SA or FA during the time?). |

Originally by: ZoRzEr I approve of this thread. Lots of nostalgic moments when reading this over. Some of the stories are true, some are twisted version of what really happened. Favorites have to be the Yulai incident, Jump in points and m0o. I've done and collected a few images from EVE over the years all the way from late Beta to this current day. Most of these images are taken by me, some are not. Here for your enjoyment:
Strange little bug This is very very wrong Chaining rats. Got to the point where we couldn't kill the spawn fast enough CCP being funny 4 afterburners on a Megathron Large hybrids on a Rifter In station Old Minmatar titan design ? When they first introduced afterburners of different sizes Again 4 afterburners + Mobile refinery Again, very very wrong. Miner III When conqurable stations first came into being lol Ninja mining Region control in october 2003 Sometime late beta Phase 4 beta I think Cruise missle fitted crow Amarr titan Don't even know when this is.
Shout out to The Jokers down in Pure Blind for being cool, to Freewheeling throughout the years, and all the other great corp members I've had.
Whoa... Am I the only one who thinks the UI back then looked alot cooler than what we have now? ____________________________________ "One mans thrash is a Minmatar's ship component" |

you use to be able to bring up a display with circles while flying too, had 10k, 20km, 30km so on circles it was kind of cool.
and for anyone that said lag was not as bad back then try to think of constatn rubber band effect. Warp to gate, approach oh your almost there, whoosh! backwards 10km, wtf??? lol |
