It has been suggested and probably they will implement some sort of 1-level depth skill queue (where you can place one short & one long skill for training). It's all in the "assembly hall", there is no timeline though. ---

Well in the meantime while they come up with something complex that no one likes, they can put my idea in. Do it. Come on, do it.

If you stop paying, skill training should be suspended. Do it.

YES x 10. Auto skill queue, skills only train while your account is active.
If your level V skill training completes while offline, train something random.

I don't like random.. but I do definately think the selected skill should continue to train until Level V is attained. The only complaint I've seen about this is the inactive account argument. IMHO, it is rediculous that an inactive account trains at all. As soon as an account goes inactive, it's training should be suspended.

Edited by: Corwin Pendragon on 15/09/2008 21:40:17 There seems to be two camps here, those who are active players (on almost 24/7) who are against any sort of training queue, and for good reason: they have an advantage because they can keep training while others are off line. These are the "have no real life" people. Then there is the other camp, those who play regularly but do have a real life and can not or will not be on all the time. Each has a different story as to why. With me I can only be on a few days a week due, again, to real life issues. So what real harm would it be to have a one deep queue where you don't have to be on at the exact time a skill finishes up? People like me, who are dedicated players, can at least keep their skills going and be a bit more flexible as to when they log in. In effect the game not longer "owns" them. And we still have to spend some time playing to get the ISK to buy those skill books.
IMO, then, it is more than reasonable to allow a one deep training queue to give people a little more flexibility. As for me, it might make all the difference as to whether the game is worth continuing to play.

Save the queue for another thread. All I want is train to level 5 option so I dont have to login at 3am to change skills. Do it.

The real problem isn't that some players can log on every day, pretty much any time they wish except when they sleep.
Rather, the real problem is to "clean up" all those short low-level skillz. Like training Signature Analysis from 2 to 3. The kinds of skillz that takes hours to train, rather than minutes or days (or weeks).
Those are the really annoying ones. The ones you want to train, but can't really get around to training, because they're the wrong length. Neither short enough that you can start training one of them when you start playing and then it finished before you're done playing for the day, nor long enough that you can start training it and then the next time you log on it still isn't done.
It is all those middle-ground length skillz, that are the problem, and that's why EVE needs some kind of training queue.
A queue would let me select one of those intermediate-length skillz to train, and then also let me tell EVE that once that skill has been trained, to resume training a long skill.

Implement a limited queue (2 deep with limitation).
You may queue a second skill only if the skill currently training is less than 24 hours to completion.
This will enable training of short skills, while not making character farming significantly easier.

Queue has already been suggested, and no doubt will come at a later point. Till then they can implement this solution pretty easily. Do it.

Don't it. I'm one of those people who can log on in the evening for an hour or 2 after the kids have been sent to bed, and I still get all my intermediate skills trained without a problem. Might take every night for an entire week, but they do get trained :) Just say to yourself "alright, this skill I can start but it won't finish. Good I have another L4 to train to L5 while I'm sleeping/at work/keeping the kids company".

How ironic, we were talking about this the other day :)
I think it would be nice if when a skill finished, it began the next level of that skill only - no random skill training, not large queues you can set to run for a month and not pay to play.
But a mechanic that would start the next level, would be very useful.
I don't think its game breaking, or customer breaking, and would come in handy in a lot of situations.

Yeaahh :D we want skilling schedule, at least up to 3 skills. 3 skills will be enough to make it working properly. The problem is low lvl skills and that's why i would like to have some schedules, cause if i need lvl 4 ASAP i have to wait 2 x time o skilling to this lvl cause of bad timings. So for example, when I'm going sleep and just made lvl 1 a have to wait next day to make lvl 2 cause i won't stay at computer for 2 more hours. And in the morning there is a problem cause i have to go to work.

Why not just be able to change you current training Skill from the "My Character" Screen on the EVE-O site? Then even if your are not able to log in, due to work, etc. you can still change your skill.
Only problem I can see to this is automated bots logging into the website to change skills, so some way to stop that would need to be used ----------------------------------------------- "EVE isn't meant to look like a harsh, uncaring universe..........it is one..." |

Edited by: Nayannia Night on 19/09/2008 02:19:17 though it might be a little too much work server side, what if when a skill is done it 'trains' the next skill level for 24 hours saving the sp but not applying it. When you log back in, if you tell it to train the next level the saved sp goes into it. If when you log in you decide to train something else they are lost (as if you didnt change it in time with current system). but only 24 hours worth. Skills finishing level 5 sit idle like normal.
it would prevent the suspended acount training as well as alt training, but give the person time for those mid level skills to train over night and have some worth if they want to go from 3-4 the next day. Giving them time to wake up, not break there work routine, come home, eat, play with the kids ect. Then log on that night for the effect.
lol it even helps the full time player that would like to sleep sometime this year by letting them go to bed and (even though not saving close to a full 24 hours worth) wake up and that pesky level 2 skill is done and started on 3 for them or something.

Changing skill from "My caracter" section won't resolve the problem of short skill during the night... Planning up to 3 skill should be enough for all we desire. Why? let's take the lower rank skill (rank 1 :p) approx : lvl1 -> 10 minutes lvl2 -> 50 minutes lvl3 -> less than 5 hours lvl4 -> 1 day
Working like that, just before to sleep, we could launch the lvl1 and plan for lvl 2, 3 and 4. The day after, we have now the choice to train up to lvl5 or switch to another skill unlocked with the previous train (example : small turet lvl4 unlock medium turet skill).
Queueing up to 4 skills is not needed in my point of view.
What do you think about that system?

A "train to level V" option would IMO take care of most players concerns with lost training time.

Sure it will, because someone would simply write a program to interface with the eve web page and make the changes for you. Which is exactly why CCP has said they DON'T want that feature.

I'm glad to see this thread re-surface to the front page.
I mistakenly created another thread about this topic after reading this one. Mainly because I couldn't find it again in the forum because it slipped back to the back pages so quick that day. In my hasteness I felt the need to create my own thread since I thought of a probable solution. So i'm sorry to the op for linking out of his thread but it really is a different idea when you think about it mechanically....so it's not necessarily the same idea persay.
If anyone would like to take a look at it please do, but make sure to read all the counter-points I laid out to my previous responders so you fully understand what I meant to convey with it. Second linky
Thanks, Yaturi |
