Its how many days now since the incident? And we still have people posting articles to news sites and searching for Sony reps twitter accounts specifically to abuse the CCP/Sony relationship to remove Mittani from the game.
If any of you were concerned with The Wis you would have taken it up privately with CCP and The Wis. By smearing his private life across the public stage you are exposing The Wis to far more abuse then The Mittani and goonswarm EVER did. Sure, Mittani may have already smeared it infront of a FANFEST camera, who's audience is pretty much purely Eve players. But what the rest of you have done is taken it MUCH further. You've now taken it onto every news site, twitter account, and facebook page you can find.
You all say its hurting the game's reputation? You're the ones who smeared it across every news site you could find. CCP would have handled the situation in private where they could show The Wis the dignity he deserved.
You have now started to search for ways to deliberately abuse CCP's industry relationships. If the abuse of the Wis isnt enough, many of you are now in violation of the EULA by deliberately damaging CCP's business in order to further your selfish in-game goals.
Anyone deliberately dragging CCP's name through the gutter in order to accomplish their in-game goals should be held equally accountable for their violations of the EULA. "War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP |

Yet another poor attempt at shifting the blame onto the people bringing what the mittani did in the public light. If CCP takes appropriate action against the mittani and all those who would willfully directly harass players and explicitly encourage others do so also, then in the long run this will be good for Eve.
I still can't believe people are trying to claim that the players who are outraged about this are the ones who are bringing all the attention to The Wis, when who originally encouraged players to harass him?
The only way this kind of behavior will be prevented in the future is if we force CCP's hand and make them take action to make sure this never happens in Eve, or at fanfest again. |

Wait if im not mistaken wasn't it the Mittani that bragged about running to media outlets during INCARNA MONOCLE GATE. And putting pressure on CCP?
So whats good for the goose is not in fact good for the gander?
Just wondering if anyone knows what double standards are?

Completely agreed. The only people that are raging about this are people that will suffer from the titan nerf, a possible incursion nerf, Riverini, and NPC forum alts. Meanwhile rational thinkers can see beyond the bullshit and discover that there is actually no problem. Mittens did a dumb thing while drunk, realised what he did and wrote a heartfelt apology (along with giving him all the money in his character's wallet). The Wis didn't even realise that this happened until someone in-game pointed it out, and even then he (Wis) remained completely indifferent about the incident.
(By the way, this probably should have gone in the apology thread to avoid further clogging of GD with topics about this) Fix incursions today! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=60460 |

This is exactly the point i was trying to make. Mittani may have ****** up, and CCP will deal with that. However, that doesnt give you the right to make more wrongs by deliberately straining CCP's business relationships in order to serve your own goals. To be fair...do you honestly think that the goons wouldn't be doing the same thing to get rid of an enemy alliance leader given the opportunity? They're not exactly known for having any sort of boundaries when it comes to metagaming. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't.
And then we'd see a bunch of "pubbies" complaining how it's hurting EvE and a bunch of goons saying, "Cry me a river."
It's a little hypocritical but then again, it's to be expected a bit too. **** off the whole world and the world isn't exactly motivated to come to your defense. It's like the child-raping, drug dealing murderer suddenly taking a stance for civil rights. Sure, rights may have been violated but such people don't make good defendants for that kind of thing.
The Mittani may make a great villain. Alex may make a good CSM member and chair. The game wouldn't be the same without the goons. But you know...
So yeah, I sort of agree with you. This kind of meta-gaming should be off-limits. But, well....that's EvE...and this is exactly the kind of game the goons like to play. I can't really bring myself to feel to sorry for them about it, and I'm sure they'll survive. |

Rational thinkers see a dangerous precedent that can be set if the right actions are not taken. A slap on the wrist is not acceptable in this case.

Indeed, there are a scary number of people who say Mittens is harming Eve, thus we need to make sure EVERY site talks about how bad Eve is because of him.
It's depressing really. The people ranting and posting on every single site they can find have done 10x the damage The Mittani's comments ever did.
I'm seeing several sites where the same people are posing on sites bringing it up.. The more bad press they make, the more they get to say "See, here's all the bad press he caused.."
Not saying I support Mittani.. Not defending his actions.. But really there is a large number of people in the community who need to take a look in the mirror at themselves, and their motivations.
That's also not to paint everyone who is upset at this with the same brush either, a lot have honest issues and no motivations beyond that.. but there are far far too many who do.. and they are doing their best to see that CCP and Eve gets as much bad press as it can because they have some hate for the man, his alliance, or his positions. |

@OP - you seem to be entirely ignorant of how journalism works. It's proactive. Web sites like the Eve forums are daily bread for games journalists - they trawl them each & every day looking for rumours, gossip and sensationalism.
What they do not do is wade through their inboxes reading thousands of badly written emails from indignant/excited/desperate gamers, hoping to find some tidbit of news.
I will bet my entire wallet that 99% of the oog articles about this fiasco were discovered independently by the writers themselves. That's what they're trained and paid to do.
You can also be damn sure that CCP's PR machine will have already contacted Sony and any other possibly affected or interested parties. It's called "damage limitation".
So get your facts right, and stop laying into the community. The box said "Requires Windows-á2000 or better", so I installed Linux. |
