Took me a second to figure out what the hell the OP was talking about.
1. It's early in the morning (not really but I was up late) 2. I haven't seen avatars for like a week.

This is all a cover-up. It didn't malfunction. They turned it on and everyone there got a hard on. They have shut it down pending the filing of appropriate patent applications. |

Again, all falls into place with my theory that this thing will NEVER WORK. The higgs boson will continue disrupting efforts to create a higgs boson, from the future.
We will be ever perpetually locked in a state of "its going to start soon, it could kill us all!" for the rest of eternity.

that should read NEAR speed of light. blame the scientist for the ignorance of the reporter. besides we can break the speed of light; its called overlightspeed! and that doesnt break relativity special/normal since that refers to the speed of light in VACUUM. The rounding is quite correct. (There is a reason scientists normally use kinetic energy as a parameter and not velocity.) --- Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes. |

If something was travelling over the speed of light, it would have imaginary mass. You would be dividing the rest mass by the square root of a negative number. I'm pretty sure imaginary mass remains undefined.

After the announcement that the LHC was being switched on and ready to start testing the world starts doing a "Chicken Little". What better way to be able to carry on, on the original schedule than by saying "oh, we have a minor technical hitch and can't start yet".
They're in there at the moment, they've switched it on and they're doing their funky stuff, I tell ya !

We should be thankful the Large Hadron Collider has now been functioning fine for 6 months, without a single problem. I didn't believe for a second that it would break the space time continuum.

It has still yet to do a full optimal run of the machine. The first time it started up it ran a few low test runs and then just idled. To be honest, all of these delays are probably making the millions of people that sponsored this machine through taxes a bit irate to not see results yet. --- Isk inflation costs muffin enthusiasts thousands of unreal experiences involving older than usual men.
