So I know there are a few of us from Chicago or the close by Midwestern area and I know that most things in our RL's slow down come Jan/Feb (and we could get a lower price on a room rental, cause we ain't doing it at my house), so I'm putting out a feeler to see who'd be up for our own little EVE Fest here in Chicago, come early 2009. I really wanted to go to Iceland in Nov., but money is a little tight, as I'm sure is the case for more than a few people currently.
So here's the deal. I'm not taking any money, reservation, or what not right now, I just want to know who would actually think about showing up, and since we'd more than likely need a room (not with beds & candle lights) at some hotel or reception hall/conference center, or maybe just a bar, what would you like to do.
1.Post here if you would be up for a gathering. Email me at [email protected] as well if you want.
2.Tell me what you'd be interesting in doing at the event;
a.Meet & greet with a bar
b.hook up an internet connection and do some in game competition
c.both A & B and why don't you try to get some EVE celebrities like Tony Gonzales, Winterblink, or some one from CCP to show up.
d.randomly rove around the city and Goonswarm anybody playing WoW at an internet cafe
3.Feel free to suggest anything I haven't thought of.

I'd like to go to a bar that isn't too too loud. Hooking up somewhere is not really interesting. I don't have a laptop and the logistics for someone else to organize renting computer for an unknown amount of guests is too much, plus cost. Celebrities? If they are in the area and want to come then cool, but heh. I rather see people shoot for something small like a pup meet they have in England at times. Renting a room seems too much. This is all assuming there are enough people to go see.
Now if CCP made a US version of fanfest then it might be different. But that would likely be in Atlanta. Still I wouldn't go to be in a tourney or anything. I'd go to meet the people being the avatars.

id be up for it, the meet and greet at a pub would be cool, there used to be a cheapish internet cafe i used to go to in the burbs but its died since then. maybe see about a group discount at a gaming cafe, no worrys about logistics then. But i allways bring my drinking glove with me whenever im downtown :D |

I would love to go something like that. I do agree that it wuld preferable to me that we don't need to have an internet connection to play Eve. Since I don't drink alcohol anywhere is fine for me. I guess I am the Designated Pilot.

Interesting but don't know if I will be able to attend since I'm changing jobs this week and don't have any idea what finances or schedule will be like yet.
One thing you might want to consider is having something for our "other half" to do for those of us that will have to travel from farther out while we are talking eve. The drive from Galesburg is 3 1/2 hours just to get to Plainfield (I was visiting a friend a couple months ago).
Not sure if I would want to drag my gaming system up there for a LAN party but would love to play.
I don't know the area up there that well so I don't have any suggestions right now but will do abit of brainstorming.

Alright between forum posts, in game and real life convo's I've had it looks like so far we have at least a dozen people.
Best thing to do is keep gettig the word out to anybody you know that is within 100 (maybe 150 miles of Chicago), I'm sure by the end of Nov. beginning of Dec. we easily have 2 dozen or more.

I'm down. We just had a corp meet in Vegas last month. 9 of us went including 2 that came from the UK. It was a blast! I'm in Joliet so it wouldn't be far at all. Harrah's casino here has a hotel.

I have family in Braidwood and am up in the Joliet area just about every month! Sometimes I think the real world is smaller than the EVE world....I mean, you can find people everywhere, but in EVE I can fly for hours without seeing a single ship.

I love the Hooters idea. The only thing is I'd feel bad about guys driving from out of town to go to a suburban location, but it could be an option for sure.

Well we could go all out and have a mini fan fest, try to lock down a sponsor or two, rent out a hall and get some boxes in there for a pew pew tourney for awards and such, but that would involve somebody putting their neck out financially and then taking money up front from people who would attend.
It could be something that could happen next year if we get a good turn out, but really we'd need a reason beyond pew pew to get people to pay to show up. Right now we got beer and hooters.

I think you'll get a little more participation if you can get the word out in game somehow. Maybe advertise; a splash page at the beginning, Eve Radio?
I stumbled on this by accident but am very interested.
I'd just like to share a few beers, talk some strategy, share tips and be able to talk to people that understand what I'm referring to, since no one at my work understands EvE-Speak. Such phrases as "tanking," "taking Agro," and "Nerf" among others seem to have slipped into my every day speaking and seems to go over everyone's head at work.

Working out the final details right now, but if everything goes as planned this will happen at the Hooters off of I-90 by O'Hare on the very NW tip of Chicago.
Parking, available space without renting a private room and the option to have player under 21 able to attend were key factors. And we all know deep down chicks love the geeks, so what better way to assure we get a warm receptions from our waitress. LOLZ

I would love to go, but as it stand right now I may have prior commitments. If I can break away I will swing out. I am always looking forward to seeing other that play this game, and the idea of a Chicago Corp / alliance is a nice topic to broach.
I would also be like to see what other have done with their skill points as a topic, things like who has the most 5's total SP's and the like builders, miners, pvp's etc.
Favorite ships, and I guess this newest patch would come up as well.
