As title is saying. Was thinking of either a pvp raven or a pvp maelstrom.
Also quick question. I was looking at a hyperion and mael and was wondering why does the maelstrom have a worse align time and speed? The tempest and typhoon are the fastest counterparts just seemed strange that it wasnt so for tier 3 battleships.

Considering that a Mael can active-tank a shitstorm worth of DPS if fitted right, I can see why.
But back to the main question: Torps or Large Projectiles.
I'd say torps, since they cost less SP training time for the same effectiveness, and torps are basically fire-and-forget up to 30kmish on a Raven.
I still fear a torp raven under 30km to this day.
Large Projectiles (T2) will force you to train small and meds to 5 as well, so unless you dont have those, thats a training time disadvantage already.
Secondly, considering the main issue with arties atm (lack of alpha strike), and the fact that they are turrets (1 TD and its up shits creek for you), well...
Then again, in hindsight, I dont fear minnie BS's that much (cept the typhoon with the dual-weapon loadout), so that could be a plus... -

Edited by: DuffmanPeter on 24/09/2008 04:58:42 Yea I have all the prereqs for large auto spec except for large proj 5. But I think im gonna go for torps 5. What you guys both said made sense. Less time and more damage. Im still curious why the mael is so bulky. Makes no sense. Thanks Merlin and Kazuma for the help.

Torps. Projectiles happen to be the crappiest turrets in the game at the moment. Torps happen to be a fantastic damage dealing weapon at the moment. And as one of the other guys in the thread said - way less skill intensive. ----------

Torps for lowsec (for gate/undock fights). Projectiles for null sec (fleet ops).
Torps are worthless in fleet fights since for anti-support you need cruises, for anti-BS you need 150km optimal insta-damage. You can use torps to bash a cynojammer - but this is pretty much it in 0.0

I'd recommend getting both, first torp's then projectile's.

no such thing as a pvp raven, no such thing as a pvp maelstrom. Train vruise and use autocannons on a tempest

It's true that both ships have a small niche but what they do, they do quite well. Maelstrom will be a top notch sniper when they improve large projectiles and raven is already rivalling the megathron for close range dps support.

And this, kids, is why I fear a torp raven, no matter what ship I'm in, when within 30km. -

That is one of my main concerns.
But My setup was gonna be 6 siege IIs
1 mwd II 1 pwnage painter 1 warp disruptor II 1 invul II 1 photon II 1 large extender II
3 bcs II 1 dc II 1 pds II
This setup solid? Would the 4th bcs be worth it?

now that I agree. and duffman, you still have the option of javelins. sure it takes out a bit of your damage, but the ability of shooting sub-BS targets (and extra range aswell) for moar damage is just a click away. ---

Yea I agree with you there. Think Ill go for torps just by the use of javelins as well as I could make a decent typhoon just having t2 torps and some neuts or autocannons. Thanks for the info Grimpak as well as everyone else who has added to this thread.

I will still have access to this EVE forum, also to post with NightmareX to 25.10.2008.
I will only reactivate my account for 1 month when i need to start a new skill.
Anyways, do not take this topic off topic, so lets discuss more about the military here.

I just went thru this same problem myself since I'm finally getting into PvP BS's. I decided Large Projectiles because I consider it a Base skill for all three Minny BSs. Even though I'll specialize in the typhoon I'll have my AC and Arty boats out of the way.

Torps 5, then Large Energy turret 5, then perhaps large hybrid turret 5....
Then some other useful stuff like jury rigging 5, every race titan 5, tactical shield manipulation 5
Once you're done with those, you might consider large projectiles 5 1.
