Side rant, but this is what I hate about political power blocs. It protects weak alliances from having their space contested and prevents them from getting better.
Pure has survived for what, two years? This is the first time anybody did anything to them directly.
People want to be in separate alliances, but then cop out and form these huge interdependent groups to get anything done.

I dunno, I can see why you went with Pure for their 2 year survival but considering the other Northern fail alliances I really don't see how anything can overshadow the juggernaut of fail that is CoD/IRON.

Hypocrisy at its best. BoB did not manage to defend all its regions alone, and needed lots of support to hold Delve. And all these puppets following BoB now, expect reward after MAX, a region or few which they cannot defend by themselves...
Not that any NC alliance has defended their regions alone. Point being, why rant if you're full of _it_.

Don't hate the power blocs. Instead hate pos warfare that requires the sheer numbers that only a power bloc can bring to the field.
Most 0.0 warfare is about one side or the other getting a critical mass of battleships, caps, and supplies on the field. Once the other side has seen that they can't field a response then the war is over. Sov 4 etc exists to buy time to evacuate stuff.
Large alliances/power blocs aren't formed because it is fun, but because it works. This isn't to say that large blocs wouldn't be formed for this is human nature. Instead as things exist an alliance *must* be part of a larger entity or be crushed. There isn't any room for medium or small groups.
Currently it makes sense for a strong entity to create a power bloc including weaker forces. If the strong alliance doesn't have the critical mass and nearly 23/7 coverage then numbers are more important than strength. Otherwise the stronger alliance could be torn apart by another power bloc that is willing to nap anyone possible (assuming nearly equal strength).
I'd almost rather we reverted to years ago when a station could be taken by a few battleships without worrying about sov or pos mechanics. Hit and run tactics would be viable. Large alliances like BoB or Goons couldn't control large swathes of space or else be picked apart.
As it stands currently it is easier and more entertaining to attack then to defend. So defenses crumble quickly. Fix pos warfare and it will resolve the need for large power blocs.

There is no advantage to being a small entity. Well, simplicity is an advantage that is for sure. But as far as having a sphere of influence, being small makes that hard. If you want to hold lands in 0.0 you need a pipe to run supplies and conventional members around, you need a jump route for your capitals, etc. This alone makes it impractical for a small entity to exist far from empire. You have to become huge or in a coalition to exist in the most distant parts of conquerable 0.0.
The best solution that I can think of is to change the layout of 0.0. All pipes should go through NPC 0.0 space with the conquerable space branching out of NPC 0.0 (oh the joy to the pirates! Make 0.0 entities form convoys to move supplies.)
My Eve (pardon my awesome paint skills)
The best regions would be closer to empire, but smaller, while as you get further and further from the center of the galaxy the regions get larger.
My solution however is not a practical solution because it would **** too many players off when their mighty empires crumble to the CCP devs.

So GBC forced PURE to surrender by having their ships blown up in masses, lossing 20 caps in Tribute, and getting 2 of their motherships out of MM **** cage by using the log-off-and-on exploit? Is this same like GBC made Hydra disband? If that is so I wonder how many ships will GBC loose before MM and RZR surrender. I'm sure a quantuple titan loss would make all alliances fall on their knees. And if you suicide your entire cap fleet I'm convinced that entire WOW population will succumb to you.

Yes - using exactly same exploit razor used to get out their titan from our "**** cage". Double standards, bitter alt?
That was smart game play...they also did that with the Roq that was stuck there if I recall correctly...but hey, when its Tri or GBC we are cheaters and exploiters etc...when the NC does it...its smart game play...
Perhaps CCP could fix this obvious exploit, when titans and moms are suffering the same sort of unfortunate multiple disconect in a row as freighter pilots seem to get a lot.
Solution is simple - always warp back into same spot
Reason CCP wont implement it?: /me barely holding back bannable rage outburst

Omg we lost 20 caps but we killed 100 including 8 motherships and Titan. We suck.
And we decided to log off from game. A internet computer game. Then to log on into it when we had time to play. Then we decided to log off again. And then on again as we had more time to play. And when we logged in holly cow!!! We were not in POS location anymore.

Originally by: fugazii Where does it say he's agreeing with BoB doing it?
Correct, I don't. BoB has no need for coalitions to kill others or defend space. I think the other GBC entities sort of tagged along because they saw opportunities there for themselves, whether or not its to BoB's benefit or request. BoB isn't going to tell them to get lost because there is immediate benefit. What is the incentive to make things harder than they need to be?
Anyone want to answer that?
I could get into the trade-offs and consequences, but in the end BoB is still getting action for its members, which at least builds experience for handling big wars.
The NC alliances created peace and stability at home (which is good), but then sat there waiting for others to bring it. And apparently, they still didn't get the hint after MC and TRISURGE.

Best thing for the NC is to have their territory temporarily contract into a smaller, easier to defend size. If Pure, Iron and Hydra (or what is left of them) were to move into Tribute and Branch then it would be significantly easier for them to defend with a larger concentration of players in a smaller area.
