Axelay, I've never tried ship-jacking. I thought of the idea, too, but I don't think that it would be viable with clones in the game. "Give us your ship and we won't podkill you" is the only threat you could really use, and losing ship & cargo is what people really fear anyway. I think that, especially with clones in the game, people would prefer to have their ship destroyed and take a chance on being podded over turning over their entire ship & cargo unharmed to the pirates.
Although, hmmm... I have a devious, secretive idea. I'll message you in game. :) ___________________________________________

Yeah, "eject or we will podkill you" is the only one I have come up with as well...
Plus there is the problem of logistics concerning the method to handle the ship once the pilot has left it.
It would take a large group indeed. I'm interested in hearing your proposal, but I will not be home for several (8) hours. Perhaps you can mail? _____ m0o

The only way to handle pirates is to not give in. It is better to be destroyed and have your cargo blow up in the process than to hand over stuff.
If you give in it will just encourage more piracy and will give them more assets to stengthen them.
I've had run ins with MEGA, MOO and SETEC. We have never let any of them from hold us up for ransom.

Well, I think that the eject or podkill system might work for Setec, but with m0o? Everyone would assume they'd get podkilled anyway, so why do what m0o wants?

Haven't met a PC Pirate yet, yelling their demands. But depending with what char I play, I'd either pay a few isk's (depending on what I stand to lose) or (try to) outrun them.
If I get blow away, it's a risk I am more than willing to take to see if it can be done.

Dearth? Last sundays peak was 6009, this sundays was nearly 6100.
There have never been 6500 players online.

Nice one Setec. If I am ever again accosted by a PC pirate, I sure do hope it's you. I know a good deal when I see it, and am always happy to meet a "gentleman" :)
On the other hand, Wrangler is also right. There have been way too many occurances of pay and THEN die with m0o involved. I'd rather take my chances, even if I have NO chance than pay m0o an isk.
And interrestingly enough - m0o and Spectral Armada were blockading Passari last evening. I also noticed that they had absolutely NO difficulty with either the coppers or the Sentry Guns. If 2 guys can still pull that off in the face of the sentry guns, then I'm starting to wonder whether they are working......

Quote: Dearth Posted - 16/06/2003 14:44:00 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anybody notice that we peeked out at 6000 max uses this week. That's 400 less than last week. So what another 500 or so ****ed off players next week. At that rate in three months the only thing left will be Pirates. I hope you guys like Playing with yourselves. I only get to see a steady increase in player numbers each day, thats only good. Pirace of course is welcome, and another think we dont get to see yet, anti-pirates, no one wants to join with you in a fight against pirates, I could build ships only to give them to loyal pilots who will escort me to the trouble areas, but there is no option in EVE to be sure you will see that ship back in your hangar at the end of day, EVE needs to implement a feature you could lend a ship to someone without the fear he will vanish as soon as he gets onboard. Then we could built our fleets and go after pirates with no fear, these guys are already getting bored, I mean, they started asking 15k isks for passes, things started going slow in this profession. lol Devs got to do something.

Gaius, Passari doesn't have sentry guns at the gate, but yeah, it's getting a little ludicrous that a chokepoint in heavily-travelled empire space is getting blockaded every other day by pirates with no police response. Luckily, last night a joint action by several corps in the region forced the pirates to run, and one of them was podkilled trying to run off. Hopefully this kind of cooperation will continue and they'll get the idea after a while.

Geyron, no its more like
Player1 "Hmm D2 look intresting, playes for a day and gets to lvl 10"
Group Of LVL 10-12s "Ok lets go take Andy!"
They head off to battle...
PK LVL60 Barb enters game, jumps to Catacombs and proceeds to kill everyone in site... "bahahaha you guys SUCK!"
Player1 "Thats it, I did not get D2 so some lamer can ruin the game"
Quote "Dearth? Last sundays peak was 6009, this sundays was nearly 6100."
Yes thats because CCP had promiced and atarted to reactivate the sec rating. Had the went with what was on the dev server the day before the path even more ppl would have reactivated their accounts and we would have had more new players join.
Have you noticed that the only ones that care about Player pirates are those that are.
Most of the people that bought EVE and are staying did so for all the other things that EVE offers. Do you really think that 5900 ppl bought EVE so that the can be Podded by player pirates? Come on CCP stop using the Barbys,, err Player Pirate in place of real content.
Take a close look and see that Player Pirates and nothing of value to EVE. No, making it so called "exciting" in 1 small area in space is not adding value any more than letting a pack of wolves loose in the middle of a town would add value. It is simply a timesink go give the players something to do. Player pirates are not just simply Timesink because they not only offer nothing to the game but will turn most new players away. (except for the LVL60 PKer they are all ways looking for new ppl to annoy)
End this timesink so we can get some corp wars going. (pirates have/hold nothing of value that is why the larger corps have ignored them)

What the carebears don't seem to realize is that it's the FEAR that makes most people play the game. If there is no chance of failure or risk involved, why on earth would we play?
And what's with the Diablo reference? PKs are part of the game. Why do you think there was a "Hardcore"? Because of the FEAR! Everyone likes scary movies, right?
With Eve, there is only "hardcore" play, and there is much more politics that can be enjoyed surrounding PvP. :) It's Grrrreat! Let the battles continue, and the world of eve will thrive. Evolve, Succeed.
If you're looking for the type of gameplay where you can go anywhere, do anything, and be all powerful, then break out the N64, strap on your game genie, and have at it.
Again, Setec.. Good Show... RP genius.

Iroxxx, well we don't ask for money. We just kill everyone on sight. Speaking of killing... why hasn't anyone added to my stinking bounty? I'm almost off the freaking bounty board with 115k bounty on my head. Come on ... TTI I know you got a mil or so to put on my head. Gah... who do I have to kill in this game to be evil...

If there is a "board" ship then there has to be a way to take it while in space. I am surprized that our current pirates are not attempting or trying this. If someone abandons a ship then the pirates can have a member in an egg nearby ready to jump in and take it to a station for warehousing. Then put it on the open market or keep it. As time goes on, clones won't be able to keep up with the skill totals we have. I would rather eject and lose an Osprey than have to re-skill again for all my upper lvl ratings. Could take weeks. Can make moola for a new Osprey in 3 days... Well we shall see how it goes. |

"Have you noticed that the only ones that care about Player pirates are those that are."
I'm no pirate, and i think EVE would lose more than it would gain if the Pirate Corps were taken out.
"What the carebears don't seem to realize is that it's the FEAR that makes most people play the game. If there is no chance of failure or risk involved, why on earth would we play?"
Absolutely, every game I've ever bought has had the risk of being killed. Without that fear, there is no fun. If i don't want to have fun then i'll go and play puzzle games on shockwave. |

Well, think about how hard it would be to talk someone into ejecting from their ship. The main leverage a pirate has in toll negotiations is that the victim doesn't want to lose his ship. You tell him to give you stuff or you'll destroy the ship. If you want him to give you his ship, what can you threaten him with? Podding? Clones aren't expensive enough that anyone would want to just hand their ship over to avoid being podded. That's what makes shipjacking so hard--nobody's got a good incentive to eject.
Nevertheless, I have some ideas. Look for an attempt coming soon to a jumpgate near you. :) ___________________________________________

I would rather be podded and respawned in a perfectly good clone than have another one of those bloody eggs cluttering up my assets.
Also, being a respawned clone will take me straight to a conveniently safe location, rather than having to fly a noob ship back through dodgy locations like Setec's back yard.
I don't see the 'eject or i'll pod you' routine becoming a big money-spinner. ________________________________________________ Captain Bluebear Interstellar Vagrant |

Fgs its not intelligent to sit at a gate with a decent loadout, warp scramble someone, drain their cap, and cripple their ship then ask for money. Its just easy. Clearly too easy at the moment. Surely if we have a police force we should have some system (in game) of reporting crimes. Plus PvP should be in the game yes, but more for corp wars than for pirating. Its only effect is to annoy begginner corps, and solo players.

hmm, funny, our youngest member is but only 19 years old?!!?! Our oldest member is a mere 40. So it seems to me we are not juvinile's as you proclaim we are. It's just easier to blame a kid, because a smarter adult makes you mad. Oh, btw we get these threats daily, some people email us the funniest things.

well, see we let newbies pass, however, if they have expensive stuff in thier cargo, they gonna die. I have yet to see a real newbie with 2000 zydine in thier hold on day one, The character may be new, however the player, is trying to get a slick 2k zyd by some pirates. Some people warp to the gate, ya get them warp scrambled/webified, then they want to pay, too late for them. Pay when you see people in the sector or ask them how much. My guns go faster than my ship does.

at the mo, eve pirate corps are run by muppets and make it very easy to avoid them. 1. a skull in the corp avatar....yes very scary and original. 2. their corp discription actually tells you they are pirates....erm cheers m8. 3. they crave what little recognition you get from online games i.e spamming irc, discussing their activites on forums, thus alerting everyone to their activities....once again, cheers. 4. the bounty list. most want to get on the list but this should be seen as a failure (for the top guys). smart criminals use mugs to do the dirty work.
