implants are so cheap now that you'd be foolish not to have a set in your head and a set ready to replace them should you get podded.

Except for the occasional self-farmed +1% or +3% fitting implant, I use no implants in 0.0 ever. Not so much because of the risk of losing them when podded in combat, but more because of the certainty of losing them when taking the clone express voluntarily, which someone as lazy as me does a lot. And if you are reading this, you have arrived at the signature without noticing...

Last 6months I never flew, in any shiptype from light dictor up to capital ships, with clones that had less than +4's and +3% implants.

Buying (attribute) implants is basically buying skillpoints. After plugging them in, you're at least guaranteed to finish your current skill at the accelerated rate; podding does not recalculate the finishing time.
The longer you get with the implants, the more skillpoints you get. But they're just like ships, don't buy them if you can't afford to lose them. |

this depends really on what you are doing in 0.0 if you are x'ing up every day then clearly it would be wasteful to wear a +5 set if you mostly sit there and carebear it up then +5 set is as good as in empire because really if you want to keep yourself safe in 0.0 you can go for 6+ months without getting podded a single time

Or you x up frequent, but still don't lose clones that often. I used to fly without clones for years, thinking that I lived in 0.0 and would lose alot of isk this way. Then I looked back and checked my statistics. I havn't got an overly impressive amount of kills, but I do have a frequency and x'ing up both for attack as well as defence. I'm very seldom on top 10 kills/points per week but I am, as I said, stable.
Over time I noticed it averages a few months between each clone loss, then I compared that with my income and bought a set of +3's to PvP in. Eventually +4's dropped to the price they are today, i.e. not much at all over +3's, and 3% implants are cheap as well.. If you want to put it extreme; say you get 1 kill a day and you lose one ship every 2nd week. You won't lose your pod each time you lose a ship, so over time, say one clone a month. That sounds pretty close to my stats and seems perfectly natural for an active 0.0 pilot..
A full set of +4's and say some mix of 1-3%'s and you end up around 100mil per clone/implants. That means in a GTC period you get 30 kills, 2 ship losses, and a 100mil clone. I bet your ass that clone is less than the total loss in ships + modules/rigs. 100mil can easily be ratted in an evening if you live in 0.0, even if you don't loot at all and you use a HAC/BC or something smaller, 3-5 hours tops in pure bounties.
Now tell me it's not worth it? It's what someone else posted above; same as with ships, "can you afford to lose it". An non-hardcore 'normal' character that x up nearly daily should easily be able to. Then again, someone else might want to split those 100mil on 50mil extra fittings on the two ships you lost, but personally I prefer the 1-3% performance and the boosted skill training time. It should pay off more in the long run.

I always have the relevant +4's installed for what I'm training. As for exotic implants, no. Out in 0.0, when your ship dies, and you are 40 jumps from home you WANT to get podded :)

I typically fly with +4's on all my characters and set a long skill before entering any pvp. Then if I do get podded, it gives me at least a week to go buy a new set.

Slaves, Snakes, all that crap, feel free, just make sure that loosing them isn't going to bankrupt you, or that they aren't irreplaceable. +3's are pretty cheap, and easy to get back.
Also, remember that Neesa is bitter and clueless, thats the most important lesson to take away from this thread.
Actually I never have less than +4's and I fly around 0.0 all day long looking for stuff to kill.
I was simply mocking the attitude of the carebears in this game.

last time I checked this is just a visual bug and it is still training under the right timer, you can fix it by relogging.
unless this was changed in the last week or so I am 99.99% certain you are wrong on it being an actual recalculation as opposed to visual bug.

I used to make decent money bringing in and selling low end implants (+1 to +3's) in every 0.0 I've been in (north, east and south), so people use them obviously.

Heh. Something we agree on. Implants are so cheap nowadays with the lp store there is no real reason not to run around with lg sets and a 3% hardwiring set for good measure. If you lose em just plug the new set in or juggle the jump clone around too if you wish though tbh I use jump clones for alternet implant sets instead of some whimpy cop out cause im afraid to lose em.

+3s relevant to the skills I'm training (usually gunnery or spaceship command ). And a -3% turret CPU implant.
PVPing does not a rich player make. I'm not sure how these guys running about in 4s and 5s and pirate sets in 0.0 pay for them

Well, +1 implants are so darn cheap you might as well use those at a minimum. The real question is what level of implants to use. Personally I get nicer ones for my upcoming longer trains and if I think I'm going to get podded or I'm going into a lag fest, switch to said long train.

Doesn't seem like that.
Anyway. You need only 2 implants for each skill, so just get 2x+3 or 2x+4 and you're set to go. And not that expensive from lp store. Even few cheap hardwiring implants can't hurt.
