Did you either of you try to consider where I might be coming from or did you jump straight on your lntellectual high horses?
Ok how to explain... Let's be hypothetical!
Billy, who buys GTC's with ISK to pay his subscription for as long as he can remember notices GTC's are getting really expensive one day, and posts a complaint on the forum saying he may end up having to quit as he can't afford them any more.
This first of all shows.
- Billy does not have any desire at all to pay with real money to keep his character going. No Concern. CCP PROFIT
- If Billy caves in to the pressure of losing his time invested and decides to pay real money to keep playing. Eve essentially gains a new customer. CCP PROFIT
However let's say Billy and his friends who happen to be EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE SERVER WHO BUYS GTC's with ISK TO PLAY decide quit and never come back.
The ever flowing traffic of beginners into Eve Online with cash in their pockets are ever present, they go to buy GTC's to simply sell for ISK for a quick step up in the game. Oh what's this? Hardly any demand? Price goes down.. price goes down... 200 million isk for 60 day GTC anyone? oh what's this? Suddenly there's about 5,000 people who've suddenly noticed buying a GTC with isk just became a lot more attractive and jump over to paying with ISK instead of their money. What difference does this have to CCP's profit? None. Like you said someone had to buy that GTC, THE BUYER, NOT THE PERSON WHO BOUGHT IT WITH ISK.
What difference did billy and all his friends leaving have? NONE CCP PROFIT
Which brings us back to the Point I stated in my original post. : It makes no difference whether people who pay to play with their ISK stay or go as the GTC economy will always reach a balance and they bring no new actual real money into CCP's pockets.
If anything, due to the lower demand, the one who buys Game Time Cards to sell again for the isk may have to actually buy more to reach the same ISK target they were after. CCP PROFIT
Quite a good business model don't you think?
wow this is epic stupidity on a scale I have not seen in a long time, you made an arguement that actually shows how CCP loses money when people that bartar gtc's for isk leave the game, but your so dumb you extrapolated the wrong conclusion from your own arguement,

This, dual boxing always upsets game balance, be in economy, pvp, or anything.

Let's go over this again.
CCP won't care about lost "isk bought GTC accounts" because they never payed with real money and in most cases were never going to.
Have another think.

So we've come to the conclusion that GTC(bought with isk) players don't mean squat(economy wise) and that every single nanosecond(pun) of EVE playing is payed to CCP(and some due to unbought time).

I do consider myself new to game, so can you please make some things clear to me?
1. Every person who sells GTC bought a special card for real money with GTC printed on it. 2. Selling it for ISK basically means buying ISK for real money. So hot debated topic about "isk buying"?
While I do understand that buying ISK from CCP via GTC is not same as bying ISK from farmers, it's still have same idea.
So far I can tell with my fresh eyes, 500m for 60 days is way too cheap. You can grind it in couple of days! Even veldspar in hisec at 5m isk/h will do it in 50 hours. Make it 1B for 1 month. Make EVE hard, make players think how to live -- isn't that what EVE is all about?
I do think that game should be about "one account per one person". Less lag, more fun. But yes, less profit.

You're trying to say that CCP DO lose money when people that bartar gtc's for isk leave the game.
Yet when GTC's are fixed price and the only variable bargaining chip that's ever altered is how much isk someone is willing to pay for one, how do things change?
There's barely an end to the demand for GTC's if people can get them at the right price, yet there will always be a situation arising at certain times where there might not always be a seller.
GTC's are needed every month, for a multitude of characters for some, where as the seller will likely only be making a much rarer one off quick buck now and then.

Alright, as was pointed out: GTC's cost real money so if people playing via ISK-bought GTC's stop playing then this hurts CCP as much as losing any other customer.
Now for the GTC (ISK) prices: They are not controlled by CCP. They are playermade.
What we have here is an open market. Info about what sold when at which price is available to anyone who does a little research. Thereby prices are driven only by supply vs demand.
Increased demand or dropping supply let the price rise. Increased supply or dropping demand let the price fall.
However, there is another factor. The exchange rate $ (or whatever currency you use) to ISK. CCP is comming down hard on the real-money ISK-buyers which means that now the only safe way of exchanging real currency for ISK is GTC-sale.
The current high could therefor be partitially because of CCP's fight against real-money traders. It's more likely thou that the current global economical crysis is affecting the supply. (Dollar is going down faster than the Titanic.)
But you must not forgot this: As long as there are enough people paying 650 mil and more for a GTC they will keep selling for that price. The moment supply exceeds demand (enough people not bothering with GTC's anymore) is the moment the prices will go down.

Lol some people really do make me want to /facepalm
Any player that pays for his eve account with isk for GTC is putting money in CCP's pocket. He does this because every single GTC that is sold is bought off CCP the GTC's seller's pay real money for them.
Take for example my 2 alt accounts I want GTC's for them so I contact a GTC seller any he buys them from shattered crystal or something and we make a sale. That money goes into CCP's pocket.
Now with current changes a lot fewer people are willing to buy GTC's (as the cost of just 1 card is now higher so casual sellers are far fewer). This means there is still an in game demand for card's but a shorter supply due to Less people buying GTC's to sell. This drive's the isk price of GTC's up which mean's that fewer people are willing to pay isk for them, thus further reducing the amount of GTC being bought for real money.
This will ballence out as the supply of GTC's will level off with the isk price people are willing to pay. Though there is one more factor, now less GTC's are being bought for yet another reason, instead of needing cards every 30 days they are now once every 60 days making less cards being sold overall.
So yes the GTC market will definatly be down and will be making CCP less money than it used to. Some of these players will have gone onto direct payment so that money isnt lost but As the Origanal poster was trying to ask about many of them wont. Many of these people who paid CCP money one way or another have stopped and arn't paying at all.
Now the original question is are CCP making enough extra money now from those players who moved to direct payment to cover what they have lost in people just quitting over all. My bet is no, hence why the power of 2 promotion to drive up subscriptions.

Here's what a lot of people aren't getting:
If the cause of the increase in gtc prices is a decrease in supply, then people are buying fewer game time cards. For those accounts that people close instead of switching to direct payment as a response to this, that means that the decrease in gtc buying translates to CCP losing money. It's as simple as that.
I'm not convinced that the cause actually is a decrease in people buying isk with GTC's, but if it is it means less money into the system.

Here lets not argue spelling and grammar mistakes as you have as many as me besides it's dumb.
Ok without going over posts, I'll give you a tl;dr version.
You said that group A which has 10 players pays their sub and also sell gtc's, group B also with 10 players but buy their gtc's with isk. So we have 20 people "paying" CCP rl money for their subs, then you say that prices go up for gtc's and group B leaves in a nerd rage, so CCP only has 10 paying now but in the mean time another group of newbs join who do a bit of everything, group C. Now you say gtc's price fall so half or all can't remember of group A decide to fund their sub with gtc's, so now we have 20 people paying like before with half paying for game time with real money and half paying with isk. But CCP are still receiving 20 subs.
The thing you missed is, if group B hadn't of nerd rage quit because of higher gtc prices then people from group A or C wouldn't have decided to pay with isk due to lower prices and CCP would be getting 30 subs.
So basically you gave a very good example of how CCP losses out massively due to higher prices.
I'm just pointing out where you said CCP wouldn't be losing out, they actually would be.
Every account that leaves Eve, whether they pay by cc, gtc or gtc for isk, is a loss to CCP. This loss in only negated if more new players than old leave.
Of course I was only posting for my own smug amusement, now I've explained it

Your maths are a little off, by your analogy it would take 100 hours of grinding/mining veldspar in Eve to pay for your 60 days gtc or you could work 2 hours in the real world in an unskilled job and pay for it.
Now if you think 500m isk for a gtc is cheap and think nothing of grinding for 100 hours ingame rather than working 2 hours in rl, then there is not much I can say to you really.

I wish I could pay with an alternate means besides gtc's :P Im disabled, currently awaiting a disability trial but attorney told me will be another 8 to 13 months before a trial date. So I don't have any credit cards since they are maxed and due to my health problems my bank accounts have all be garnished to pay hospital bills so Im told I cannot work. So I sit here bored day in and day out till I can get disability started. And so I farm isk to buy gtc's :) of course when that becomes impossible then it will be off to do something else :)
just wish they kept the 30 day and 90 day gtc options :(

so... i think we can agree on the fact that there's a couple of GTC buyers who cut back on alts. this is just not the amount of grinding we had in mind when we started those chars: 90d/400mil -> 60d/500mil
so whether these guys pay for their accounts or have other people pay them in return for isk, is of no concern. there's just fewer customers
next step: one would think that with this dwindling demand, gtc-isk prices should bounce back. iow; if at least the same relative amount of GTC sellers quit their doings, the price should remain stable. it doesn't - it's on the rise: so there's even more/bigger GTC sellers stopping than ~buyers.
but we can't discuss this really. i'm sure the "regular", direct payment is the most common. but we only have indicators for gtc-isk trade.
personally i think they shot themselves in the foot. combine that with more rapidly growing pile of incomplete and/or half hearted aspects of the game. i'm inclined to say we've entered a downward spiral. aka Roemy Schneider (probably lacking game time again) |

EVE minus 10000-50000 accounts is a BETTER place for the rest of us...
So what if we are "paying" a bit more, we are paying more for a free-premium experience.
Here is what I mean:
1) less lag in empire from people running that 2nd missioning raven account 2) more R and D slots in empire as the 2nd r and d accounts is cancelled 3) more money from t2 production 4) more exploration sites in empire and 0.0 5) more free moons in empire as alt pos corps for r and d fold 6) less laggy fleet battles as people dont have an alt in the north AND a 2nd account in the south 7) better trading as the market isn't inundated with millions of pings off alts spamming it 8) better corp experience as people will be more invested in their corp when they are down to 1-2 accounts...
SO, go ahead and whine, complain, moan, about GTC costs, and then PLEASE CANCELL your account!
The rest of us get a free premium experience when you quit...
9) I forgot--more R16 moons as the alt pos corps fold...

On paper it looks to be correct yes, every GTC has been bought with real money and every one used means more and needed for everyone else.
But see this guy here for example.

What's the difference? None.
I believe this is what you meant here
Quote: This loss in only negated if more new players than old leave.
Or to put it in a better way, the only time CCP are hurt by GTC's is if there are more available then there are people available to buy them, as you said yourself.
Because then prices drop to get a buyer, and at some point, someone who pays real money is going to swap to being GTC'er which hurts the game as that is effectively one subscription lost. That is how GTC and Real money subbers are not the same to all the ones saying there are.
You can have as many real money subscribers as you like, it's great for the game.
But too few people buying GTC's hurts the game as that means likely that real money subs turn into GTC's.
and too many GTC buyer difference is negligable, if it pushes people out into paying real money it's a benefit, if it forces them out the game, there is little that can be said of it. What can you do if there was only 1 GTC, 10 buyers, the higher bidder gets it, and then there was no more room at the free-ride inn?
The best we can hope for is a balanced GTC market really though. |

Yeah I know where you're coming from Crumplecorn.
You're most likely thinking. How is it one subscription lost when they are using a GTC that was paid for with real money. Yes?
Because there never has been a surplus of GTC's. EVER.
It's like foxes and chickens maybe.
One is needed for the other to exist.

Exactly. Because that's, you know, how it is. -

Originally by: Doc Longfingers Ever consider that CCP has the ability to manipulate the GTC price? All it would take is a number of ccp alts buying up most of the available GTC's with free ISK, just takes a stroke of a key. A maneuver like this would definitely create a huge demand and lower supply. The result would be the equivalent of what's happening now.
Why would this type of manipulation be good for CCP you ask? It's easy, make GTC's cost so much ISK that players will start coughing up real money to play the game. Mucho Profitito!
This sort of manipulation can be used for getting macro players off the roster too, all ccp has to do is flood the market with so much ice that the price drops to the equivalent of todays level.
Another way to jack up the price of ISK-purchased-GTC's and increase profit would involve making the game more entertaining and user friendly. But that would involve real work, creativity and stuff like that.
<Live Wrong and Prosper>
The problem with this, should they choose to do it, is that people with alts/multiple accounts will cease to have them if they can't pay with in-game currency.

Useless speculation.
The peak number of players online has not decreased significantly, it's holding steady. Any income lost due to players canceling a few accounts can be overcome by farmers creating dozens more to mine empire ice in absolute safety.
Only CCP knows. These threads are nothing but trolling and hot air.

you do realize CCP takes direct and majority profit from GTC sales. CCp was still gettin there money wether u payed with isk and someone else payed for the card for u. or you just bought the card.
all roads lead to ccp -- Like the storm that's in the making, When the rumbling thunder runs, And the hills and valleys tremble. |

I suppose CCP don't actually ban macro miners and other such isk farmers as they still make them money. So they allow them to play and jack the prices up. Which kind of does take the p***, its all about money for ccp.
