You don't even need a friend. Only a free slot on your single accont to make a nub n00b ship scout alt. Plan your route and if a few jumps through low sec is in order then move your n00b alt there in a n00b ship and run the 2~5 jumps to get back to safe empire and see if the local and gates are clear. If its clear then jump away. Tbh the best way though it might take an extra 20 minutes to do is to use the alt to scout only 1 jump ahead and if clear jump your freighter. Log off the freighter then relog the alt scout. Repeat until your in safe empire.

Freighters always drop fat loot otherwise why would it even be in space and trying to brave a low sec run? Pvp in Eve is not and never will be about some medeival jousting tournament where everyone is civil and takes turns to murder each other 1vs1 on equal terms. LULz.

No, a solo freighter is likely to be carrying more civilian shield boosters than you will EVER know what to do with.

As for the rest if your in low sec and will keep your ship after blowing up said nub freighter then anything that drops is pure profit. I'd ****ing love to blow up a freighter full of civy shield boosters. Do you have any idea what that would refine into with my perfect refining skills? Eh probably not so here are the numbers. 800,000m3 of civy boosters at 5m3 each is 160,000 civy boosters in the cargo hold. Each refines to 64 tritanuim, 22 pyerite and 1 mexallon so we end up with 10,240,000 units of trit, 3,520,000 pyerite and 160,000 mexallon with a total value of 57,248,000 isk as per current Jita prices. All for blowing up a defenseless freighter pilots ship in less than a minute that should never have tried to run through low sec without a scout. Now add bulk cargo that has some actual worth and you will see why unescorted freighters at a low sec gate is like ringing the dinner bell at a ranch. Everyone comes a running for the grub.
