every ship class in eve got a diferent warp speed Battleship goes 3 au/sek cruiser goes ? au/sek frigate goes 6 au/sek 1 au is around 149.598.000km
so a battleship goes 450.000.000km/sek then if we look at the the range of a lightyear is around 9.470.000.000.000 km
so how fast can a Battleship move a light year. 9.470.000.000.000km/450.000.000km = 21037sek = 350minutes= 5,6hours
i dont realy know the distances in the EVE universe but if you look at hours it takes to fly a light year. then it brings most of the surounding systems within reach og a days flight.
this could give safe passage to distant systems if you are willing to wait a few days while you warp there.
some restictions could be impossed like no communication once to far from a system with a transmitter.

But no ship would have the cap required to travel that far. ................. |

Your cap recharges during/after each warp, so that's not a problem. You just make lots of small jumps.
I like this idea, but I think that it would be quite hard to implement, given the distributed way the game seems to be implemented :)

you could get a "Down time" when you start this jump and not get any control before you reach your destination _____________________________________________ yawnnnnn |

This isn't possible because getting from one system to another requires you to 'zone' into that system, which is what happens when you use a warp gate, so unless you zoned from one system to the other in mid warp, it wouldn't work.

Pretty sure most star systems in Eve are, on average, 7 lightyears apart. That means you're spending 34-45 hours of "downtime" when you're warping between systems! That's insane. It'd slow the game down to a complete crawl too.
