Hi
I was and always have been a member of the GBC and i find it horrible that CCP no longers care's about the customer base - ive seen this game go from CA 200 v 200 epic fights to thousands dukeing it out.
Last night we have 2 gangs and the Node crashed 5 times. Teamspeak was to say the least very calm with Molle simply telling everyone to calm downa nd just relog and wait, which ofc we did.
After 5 node crashes i was killed at a gate like so many this year without seeing any dmg appear or the ability to defend myself
After 5 years and non stop promises to stop the lag which have materialized to nothing i have finally decided to leave EvE for good.
It's been a blast it really has but the fact we can no longer fight as we once did has killed the game for me.
Goodbye all, hope they sort the problem for you :)

Me wonders if there will ever be a leader to step up and split his forces into several smaller gangs, striking at several key locations and so forcing the enemy to do the same.
I wonder if this is a viable tactic at all and if one of the middle to big sized alliances ever tried it yet

I dont know if you are aware but there is a recent dev blog on a new network layer that has been in development for 2 years. StacklessIO
From first glance it looks like CCP have effectively doubled the amount of people they can have in a system or network throughput. However, this seems to swap one problem for another and now creates an issue with memory. (which is much easier to fix, yay!)
So, I would give it a month or so for them to iron out the new layer and tweak it for full potential. Since, they cannot find out about these issues without deploying to tranquility first as they need the numbers.
This might not be it and obviously there are a lot of variables, but, if it was not athe new StacklessIO layer and is still the old code running. Then still.. there is this to come.

just because of a bad lag week?
I understand your feeling though, maybe come back once they slove it? in other words don't pay CCP anymore untill they fix what you want fixed.

It's a 1st step, and does far more good than I was expecting, but it's still going to take at least another year before they get everything else right.
to be honest though that new level of the network is borderling flawless, which while is only one part of the puzzle, is still awesome.

Edited by: Staife on 28/09/2008 11:31:46 Yeah it sux :( ... All i can say is that you can try to find some activity that is fun for you and that doesn't involve crashing nodes. And if you cannot find one then yes, no choice really but to quit EVE.
Edit: Fifth in line for stuffz. Hope you have a lot of it so there will be some left over for me.

Edited by: Andrue on 28/09/2008 11:43:04 Unfortunately every time CCP support one size of blobs you monkeys bring even more people to the fight. Tell your commanders not to fight in blobs. They should know by now what happens when they bring too many people. Either they should have worked out how to avoid it or else (more likely in my experience) it's deliberate.
Your commanders probably don't care about their foot soldiers and consider a node crash to be a reasonable strategy that suits their greater purpose.
Shame to see you leave but you'll probably be back. Eve is like that. Oh and having a hissy fit when you go is kinda lame. If/when I ever quit I will thank CCP and the community for many years of enjoyment. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Put on a long skill, take a long break, come back. To quit is not a solution. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many

The purpose is to win. If you're the defender, then node crashing is a great way to defend yourself. If you're the attacker you can't afford to bring fewer ships than the defender or else you'll just lose outright from having a weaker force. So the only conclusion is for both sides to bring as many ships as you can, which causes node crashes.
So, how would they avoid this situation?

Of all the trolls, I found you most annoying of all. If you're really quitting, thanks.
It's not CCP's fault that every time they make a change to ease the server load under 'current' conditions, we bring MORE people. It's like Crumplecorn's sig - it lags because people keep joining until it lags.
