Either they should have worked out how to avoid it or else (more likely in my experience) it's deliberate.
Your commanders probably don't care about their foot soldiers and consider a node crash to be a reasonable strategy that solves their greater purpose.
Shame to see you leave but you'll probably be back. Eve is like that.
The purpose is to win. If you're the defender, then node crashing is a great way to defend yourself. If you're the attacker you can't afford to bring fewer ships than the defender or else you'll just lose outright from having a weaker force. So the only conclusion is for both sides to bring as many ships as you can, which causes node crashes.
So, how do you suggest they avoid this situation?
I hate the idea but some sort of sig reducion based on the number of ships locked on to a ship at the same time and larger sig radius based on the number of ships your locking on to might be the only way...

If it only becomes noticable with a large number of ships it won't change anything. You'd just have several fleet commanders each calling their own primaries. If it becomes noticable with a relatively small number of ships then it might have something going for it since a large group of ships wouldn't be able to fight at full strength against a small number of ships.

eah what they aren't telling us is the vampire mmorpg is the same as eve, it's all going to be one big game!
and the whitewolf game will have perma-death so it'll be interesting to see how that works out :P

Op why dont you try doing some other stuff in eve then fighting in systems with 800 ppl in it. Pirating provides amny very small gang battles which are good fun, but also midsized battles have been pretty lagfree lately. Even if you wonna stay in gbc there are ways to help the cause but avoid the blobs, just gotta be creative and work independent -

5 year guy here, ive just cut out large fleet and POS fights a year or so ago and now i have fun again.
shame you have to leave as you obviously like the fleet stuff, and that wont be getting any better for a good while.
keep you stuff, you might need it when you read that gamer mag in X years from now the headline of which reads "ccp's eve-online breaks new records for lagless single server mmorpg"

Isn't this the second I quit post from you?
I find it difficult to believe that a 5 yr player quits due to lag. 5 yrs ago well before the GBC existed it used to take an age to load at a JIP. You used to be back in station before the screen loaded.
The GBC will have to adapt like everyone else to the new system load changes and I'm sure they will and prove to be just as effective.
I agree from the point of view EVE is now a secondary concern to CCP while they concentrate on the new game. But thats business. If they get the balance wrong people will quit EVE and they'll struggle to finance other projects. So I guess they'll try and get the balance right. I mean if they fail we don't play a game anymore. CCP employees lose their jobs, they were on the ropes when they produced EVE I'm pretty sure they don't want to go there again.
/start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

I, for one, welcome our new vampire overlords.
/signed.
I still look back on my V:tM days with very fond memories, and while the previous White Wolf video games were entertaining, it's impossible to capture the essence of a WoD game in that sort of platform. I hope that the MMO manages to be as open-ended as EVE is, and as cold and harsh as EVE used to be... otherwise, it just won't measure up.
And tbh, if there was a decent WoD troupe in my area, I probably wouldn't even be paying to play EVE at all.
/me contemplates trying to find a decent MUD based on the old WoD...

Actually I thought the point of Eve was to have fun. Quote: So the only conclusion is for both sides to bring as many ships as you can, which causes node crashes.
Which from the sound of it was exactly what was achieved by both sides. Congratulations
Quote: So, how do you suggest they avoid this situation?
Refuse to take part. Tell your commanders to take their blobs and shove them where the sun don't shine. There's plenty of other things to do in Eve and even quite a few ways to enjoy the fun of PvP without getting all blobbed up.
Alternatively you can come on to the forums, publicly throw your toys out of the pram and storm off in a huff.
The we-must-win-at-all-costs crap is exactly why I left 0.0 a couple of years ago. It was clear that a handful of egotistical dictators had no interest in the fun of day to day gaming and were only interested in the larger game. The fact that the rest of you have put up with being pawns in their fun for so long amazes and saddens me. If you want fun and aren't getting it - tell your leaders. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Edited by: Eemaavi on 28/09/2008 14:24:26 This is nothing new, were you expecting something diffrent in 400 vs 400 fleet fights? Or was this a "lets put stacklessIO to the test."? Until you all modify YOUR behavior and strategy (since the systems is not readily modifable) the out come will always be the same. (Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the hallmark of a crazy person I hear) As others have said if you don't demand better from your leaders who are "ordering" you to into this mess then you get what you get. you really onl;y have yourself to blame. 0.0 can be fun and profitable but is it really worth the aggravation? (I made that decision awhile ago...No its not I'll be my own pawn thank you)

sad that it only took 5 years to change this.

Fortunately, the number of people who do not understand how EVE works (esp. 0.0 warfare) and consequently keep posting dumb things like "if you fix 200v200 then people will bring 400v400" or the above, is getting smaller all the time.
I'll be patient and write clearly what the problem is with your post:
- The design of EVE leads naturally to big fleet fights because the more people you have on your side, the fewer losses you will likely have (ships/territory)
- this is especially true when you attack cyno jammed systems, i.e. deathstar POSes, possibly defended by capitals and multiple Titans, with Battleships. If you bring 20 ships, you have no chance. If you bring 50, you will lose many. If you bring 200, you will probably not lose much because the enemy will hesitate to warp in at all.
The solution isn't to play EVE in a way that generally achieves worse results *unless* you take it for granted that everyone will lag equally and to an extent that makes the game mostly unplayable by normal rules. If you bring fewer people than you could and the system surprisingly doesn't lag too much, your enemy will be at an advantage again.
So, with the current design of EVE, smart people will always blob because it's the winning tactic. Lag and its consequences are too unpredictable to take into account.

no, doubt it
but we did do something similar to this in the FW a few times, and tbh, it DID work, we had a system locked down for an hour, killed anything that came through, and if a huge force jumped through, we all just converged on them at once, plain, simple

I understand your feeling though, maybe come back once they slove it? in other words don't pay CCP anymore untill they fix what you want fixed.
Quote: So, I would give it a month or so for them to iron out the new layer and tweak it for full potential.
It's a 1st step, and does far more good than I was expecting, but it's still going to take at least another year before they get everything else right.
to be honest though that new level of the network is borderling flawless, which while is only one part of the puzzle, is still awesome.
