Hi, I'd like too, know what kind of stuff work with the IN GAME Browser.
I've already found that flash and java are not working. What about PHP ?
My goal is too create my own Web site.
Is there some specific things too know ? Some tutorial exists ?
Thanks for answers ;-)

What he above said. Its woefully unable to integrate with most applications and code. Good luck making your site. i believe you'll be heavily restricted though due to how bad the browser is.

Basically, use HTML 1.0 and all will be fine. _____________________ I'm not afraid to die My soul will carry on You can't kill me I'm Imortal |

PHP, ASP and any other SERVER side run software will work just the same as with any other browser, since the browser does not even know this exists beyond the file extension. Which does not really mean anything either since I could set my webserver to parse ASP with a PHP extension etc, but you know what i mean.
i.e.
> The browser asks the server for a page via a URL (which may contain parameters). > The server processes the information (using PHP or similar pre-processor) and creates a page of static HTML. > The browser is sent and now displays this HTML.
Any CLIENT side scripting that requires additional processing such as Javascript, Flash, Java will not work as the in-game browser is very limited.
So.. since you have all the processing and dynamic power you need through PHP or similar language (depending on your host). The only thing you need to worry about is how that information is displayed in-game.
I have found that it is a painful process and use css mainly with absolute positioned divs instead of tables. If you use tables it will lag out your client and annoy you very much (last tested over a year ago). But divs are fast loading, just keep the look to a minimum, since you probably just want the dynamics anyway.
With the addition of the XML feeds from the API keys you could make a very powerful ingame site indeed.
There are also a few tricks which make the ingame browser fun to code for, such as;
> You can read pilot information including current system, nearest celestial object etc. > You can drag items directly into a text box and use the "Show Info" option, this will drop the code for that unique item into the textbox which you can then parse and create links anywhere in your site.
e.g. I use this to create a database of blueprints. Drag the blueprint into the textbox -> show info -> submit and store in database. Now you have the showinfo information for that exact blueprint and can organise, search and much more. Also since the link is static to that individual object (blueprint), when the ME or PE is updated ingame by anyone you can see that from the website link.
Hope this gives you some ideas, there is a helluva-lot you can do to keep you busy :)

It's HTML3.0 I believe, and hasn't been updated in a long long time. Eventually I think it will be done away with. So I haven't designed any web pages for it for quite a while, if you keep them very very simple and the scripting server side they will work. Personally I just run windowed mode and use a proper browser instead, as do most people I know.

As long as you feed the IGB basic html, it should do fine, some basic CCS shouldn't be a problem as well. Table rendering is slow as though so avoid that. Javascript, flash or any browser side scripting won't work.
There is a nice little guide on grismar.net that I can recommend, explains things like how to get trust and what variables are available. _

Considering their whole agent system uses the IGB (albeit in a modded form), I find it unlikely they'll just up and take it out of the client altogether. But yeah, it does suck

The thing is; If you view the IGB as a browser for the Internet then it does suck. If you view it as a tool to view sites specifically designed for the IGB then it's great.
There are some integrations between the IGB and the EVE client which does make it useful for certain purposes.

This is handled very easily with stylesheets and a server-side check whether the useragent is the IGB. If it is, use a stylesheet designed for the IGB, otherwise use one that pretties everything up for normal browsers.

Too bad we can't make use of whatever they are using to display mission information and such. If we'd at least could see the source of them... |
