www.BIG-EVE.com
Hello there
In our continued efforts to better the playing experience of all citizens in the EVE universe we in BIG have decided to conduct another "BIG Newbie Mining Event".
Our last (and also first) event of this sort was held on the 9th of April and was only publicized in a limited fashion on EVE-Radio, EVEGate and in local in-game on the day of the actual event. But nevertheless we still had a very positive response from the participants and so we have decided to try it again and this time invite a lot more participants, by advertising it well in advance and on a broader basis.
This is an event aimed at players new to EVE and by this we mean players not older than one month and still only piloting frigates. If you pilot a cruiser or better, then this event is not for you, as you can no longer be considered a newbie in the strictest sense.
The event is a mining event where BIG will help newbies mine Omber efficiently in the asteroid belts of a 0.5 system by having combat pilots present to remove threatening NPCs and hauler pilots to purchase the ore mined by the newbies directly from their jettison cargo containers.
This will allow even the newest EVE player to participate and earn a decent income of around 340,000 isk every hour he or she participates.
BIG will earn around 40k isk an hour for each participant earning 340k isk (read more in the detailed event description).
This estimate for the possible earnings of a participant is based on the following. - We will pay 36isk for each Omber unit mined by a participant
- A participant using 2 Miner1 lasers with his Mining skill at level 4 will be able to mine 9600 units of Omber in an hour (a participant using 2 Miner2 lasers will of course make twice that amount)
- The participant can mine continuously as the mined ore will be purchased directly from him
The event will take place on Saturday the 26th of June in a solar system with 0.5 security status close to the centre of the universe. It will begin right after downtime and last for at least 12 hours depending on the availability of BIG pilots to support it.
The event takes place in the system called Stegette.
The best way to travel there is to set your first waypoint to Ardene and then secound waypoint to Stegette.
If you want to participate or simply know more about the event and how it will be conducted, you can read the detailed event description here - BIG Mining Event (this page will also work in the in-game browser) or join us in our in-game channel "BIG" or the event specific channel called "BIG Mining".
I hope to see as many as possible of you newbies at the event on Saturday!
I will update this post with the exact location of the event shortly before downtime, so check back here right after downtime and join the "BIG Mining" channel in-game.
If you plan on participating please post a short hello here, so we know a bit about how many of you newbies who read the posts here will participate.
Regards
DocDoo û BIG û President of Industry & Science
BIG also run two other on-going events. The BIG Lottery - The longest running lottery in EVE, current first prize 1 billion isk. The BIG Deal - A highly successful Battleship BPo share scheme. |

That's no problem. You can join at any point during the day, stay for as long as you'd like and take as many breaks as you want to.

I would love to come along.....well Im half newb, half experienced, but helping newbs is my hobby!!!! Can you sign up-----------> go mine------->give the ore to the newbies JCCs???? if not I'll be piloting around looking for--------> keep reading
Its great!! I'll be telling ppl from the start-corp im in that they could go there.
Sadly: the reason as for knowing about this came ingame----> I heard pirates would note the place and camp surrounding nodes for evil kills on defence-less miners.....thats evil, but also shows the newbies that this is a cool challenging game
I'll be joining in my rupture with 4 Miner IIs/Medium guns if I can make it (have work at saturday too :S)

@William Konrad: Thanks for the offer. At this point I believe I have sufficient corp. members available to help, but if that changes IÆll be more than happy if I can convo you in-game and request your assistance.
@Number 258: In this event out focus is on the newbies, so we are no able to service anyone else. You are welcome to join us in the system where the event will be held and mine along side the rest of us, I only ask that you refrain from mining the Omber in the belts where the newbies mine as tomorrowÆs event is for them.
@Super Spike: If you are still so ônewbieshö that you only have a frigate to fly you are welcome to join us mining. If you have already graduated to cruisers then I would like to be able to convo you during the day if the need arises for additional security.
@Sleepy Dane: As I told Number 258 we will not be able to service non-newbies as we want to focus our attention on them. But like him you are welcome to come and mine alongside us as long as you keep your lasers off the Omber. If after mining you feel like donating some or all of what you have mined to the newbies then we might be able to work something out where we buy the ore from you and split the proceeds among attending newbies.
@Miner Aiden/General Stargazer: It wonÆt be a problem for us to have any of your students join the event as long as they fit the criteria for attendance (must be newbies and only piloting frigates). I canÆt reveal the name of the system where the event will be held yet for security reasons.
Regarding the Pirate threat mentioned by Sleepy Dane: I would like to say to any pirates contemplating disrupting this event: Please donÆt bother.
The people attending this are really new to EVE, they have no isk and no ships with any interesting cargo or modules you can rob, so the only thing youÆll accomplish by killing them and/or their ships is to discourage them from continuing their subscription after the 1 month of free play.
There is no honor or reward to be had here, instead try to gank some of the transports going to and from the alliance controlled areas of the universe.

If your best option to make isk is still to use a frigate then yes, I consider you eligible.
As I have said earlier, this is an event primarily aimed at giving people new to EVE a "leg up", so no showing up in cruisers and expecting to be serviced anyway.

Sounds good for BIG you mean?
With the current mineral prices, one batch (500 units of omber) is worth about 25k, big buying at 34 unit for raw omber, making 17k for a batch. BIG net a profit of 8k pr batch. Acording to the event text, if a newb mine 9600 units of omber a hour, thats a bit more than 19 batches. But to round it down, that net over 150k a hour in profit for BIG pr newb.
Wake up call.. mineral/ore prices isnt what they was pre-castor. If you want to do a event for the new players DO IT RIGHT, pay them what its worth. It make me angry to see such, and even supported by ISD. Do you guys even play the game?

I think BIG is doing a nice service for newbies and wish to commend them. As for BIG making a little profit here keep in mind they are supplying the haulers (which would normally eat into a miners profits) so the miners can mine non-stop. They are also providing instant payment so the newbies don't have to run around looking for buyers. They are providing sale at a high refine level which newbies wouldnt have.
They are also (after reading thier webpage) providing protection from NPC's and offering for sale newbie ships and supplies in the affected systems so a newbie could even buy a new ship while there.
I think its a good idea for a player event. Keep in mind BIG calling it an "event" doesn't make it a CCP or ISD sanctioned event. ISD hasn't indicated any official support for this other then the Jovian guy saying its a good idea.
BIG has an excellent reputation and while I've never been a member I've been around since BETA and along with a few other long-time corps they are one of the most respected corps in EVE.

Jus tliek to point out, from this BIG will make pennies in comparison to other large corps in 0.0 or if they did theyre own BS mining op.

I dont care what they can sell it for. I can sit there and mine..they take it from me and pay me. It's like a drive up Pawn shop, but I dont have to drive anywhere. All I do is sit there and mine.
This was/is (still going on) a great event for us noobies. Thanks BIG and everyone else who was there. I met some great people. Had a good time...learned a little bit...and made $$$
I would love to see more events like this. This was great!

Sorry, but you calculation is wrong. At first, your prices are wrong. You have to calc with the prices where the mining takes place, not the highest mineral prices at the strip mined highway systems with no omber in 5 jumps distance. Even if you calc with expensive 2 isk for trit, 5 isk for pyr and 65 isk for isogen and zero waste at refining (i.e. high standing at the refinery corp), you will come to only 21,1k isk per batch (500 omber). Secondly, you forgot all the work the B.I.G. pilots have to do. The B.I.G. bought the ore already from the container, thus providing the hauling AND the defense in the system. And with such an unorganized mining and the difficult payout system the industrial pilots can't use instant pickup bookmarks very much and need therfore a lot more time per run. I calc therefore the profit of B.I.G. was about 500k per hour and pilot. Thats rather poor and shows clearly the intention: to help the newbies. Cause for skilled players its easy to make >=1 mio ISK per hour, for instance already with thorax plagioclase mining in 0.8+.
If somebody doesn't believe me, organize a newbie mining with same rules and prizes yourself. You will see the (poor) result per hauler/defender then yourself. Btw I have nothing to do with B.I.G., I wasnt there and I dont get supported by them. But i can calc. Eve sucks, rl sucks. I don't complain, i play.

I read about this event about 24 hours too late to have a chance to train Mining up to level 4 and wondered how good it would be without it ...
Well, I spent almost 12 hours playing the BIG Mining Event, and learned tons of things about the ships, the methods of defense, basic large scale organisation, not so endeering terms for "Ore Thiefs" and much much more. On top of it all, it was fun and supremally relaxed. I also made enough cash to buy a boat-load of Skills, another ship and I got to pick the bones of all those silly Serpentis that tried to hurt us.
I think this proves that well equipped "Elite" players and a bunch of Newbies in basic gear can play well together for both fun and profit. Unlike many MMORPG or somesuch.
Heck, I hope BIG got as much out of this event as I did. CCP certainly will, as I become a paying customer soon. This was a million times better introduction to the EVE universe then even the early tutorials. This kickstarted my EVE experience.
Thanks BIG. I'm going to remain "little" for now, but I know what can be done when I aim "BIG".
Cheers,
Inara Brey
