Everytime they do another patch, CCP misses the estimate.
I understand it's a complex system, but at each of us paying $14.99 a month (or more), you would think they could beta test the patches before we get into this over and over.
Lost skill time would be my fault, but lost use of the game should be credited from our bills. |

get over it, you are not the only one that has to deal with it.
if 14.99 is too much to deal with the occasional downtime then move on.
SOME OTHER games have at least one downtime a week where they shut it down for 6+ hours.
eve downtime is not nearly as bad.
these downtimes are an effort towards progress.
i suggest you just make plans *other than eve on patch days if you cannot handle the wait. |

Get used to it. And rather than sitting at your computer crying because you have nothing to do try the following:
- Leave you're basement, theres a whole world out there
- Help your mum with the washing, she may repay you with a hot coco
- Go outside, but remember, your paper white skin needs suncscreen of you will burn
- See your friends, if you remember who they are
- Finally, consider resubscribing to wow and giving me your stuff

That was pretty funny. But the point is valid - if you pay for a service you should receive the service. If service is interrupted for the suppliers fault, it should be compensated.

Im sorry but if the monthly subscription matters that much that you get every penny out of your time. Then EVE should be the least of your priorities. In the end CCP are human and people are prone to misjudge things or make mistakes. But a few hours of downtime here and there is better than them rushing it out unstable. Plus the amounts of times the servers up from regular downtime a half hour early MORE than makes up for things. |

1. My comp is in my room, not my basement. 2. Did that yesterday, got a coffee Coolada (That Dunkin Donuts iced drink) 3. Been there, seen that A LOT, given I walk about a mile to school each day. 4. Have. I ate dinner at my friend's house 4 times in a row. (Had to bring a few offerings of wine for his parents for feeding me) 5. STFU

You do have a point the CCP = Fail when it comes to estimating how long downtime really is going to take. Older players now are supprised of the servers are back up on time and infact exect at DT to over run on any patch day. This shows that CCP should make more conservitive estimates on the down times.
Its not really a big deal to say DT will be 4 hours long instead of 2. Then if the servers actually up in 3 hours CCP then look better in the eyes of their customers. Not exactly rocket science but something CCP do no manage to do.
But that aside they are improving the game we all love and hate so CCP = WIN. |

You have to look at it this way.
Every normal DT ends 10-15 minutes before estimated in my experience, so now they take the 34647645745X10 minutes, that we shouldn't have been able to play and add it to one big DT xD |

Edited by: Presidente Gallente on 30/09/2008 17:35:54 For a long time I decided to check the forums when DT fails. Nothing changed. Hilarious.
What's the problem? Bored or just addicted to the game. Is there nothing you can do else?
CCP is fine. They try to deal with complex hardware. So what. EUR 10,00 per month is really cheap. Think about the money you would waste if you meet friends for party, cinemas, rollercoaster rides ... expensive fun.
:-P
Update: right now the patch is alive. Presidente throws the half empty 1 liter bottle of rum at the wall and screams: yarrrrrr! +++ JOIN PAP +++ |

so you failed to understand that they do it every time and did not set a long skill?
also 14.99 a month comes out at 2 cents an hour or about 48 cents a day, send a self addressed envelope with a 2 dollar international airmail stamp and I'm sure they will be pleased to send you that 0.48 check minus the 4 dollars administrative fees plus custom surcharge and taxes

No. The OP just forgot the terms of service he agreed on.

…and not reading the EULA.
In addition, I'd like to how the OP would propose to beta-test the patch deployment without completely duplicating the entire TQ cluster at immense costs?

Edited by: Stormwind Bloodfeather on 30/09/2008 20:26:26 Computer code is not exactly the easiest thing to write in a complex dynamic game like EVE ( I know, I write C++, Python, PHP, MySQL and HTML) When you load it to your server and fire it up, you often find where the code you wrote breaks something else because of a database call or any number of other possible reasons (I'm choosing NOT to be technical so you non-techs can actually grasp this concepts here).
Example...
I wrote what I "thought" was a simple calendar script for my domain that would interact with the board, info pages etc, allowing my users to be able to make plans for the events we have going from anywhere on the site. I broke the board. It took me almost an hour and a half to find where 1 (ONE) Database call caused a null return when linked to the script and another 10 minutes re-writing the code to fix it.
Thats on a relatively EASY MySQL database using PHP. Ramp that up to something as complex and dynamic as a large MMO's game code and only going over the estimated DT by a few minutes or hours rather than days to fix something that breaks. To me that is not bad at all.
