Like in the subcjet - this topic was hot for a long period of time and now it ...died? Is there any chance to make EVE space more interesting and less boring?
Now it's like tousands of different solar systems but each of them is so dully ...same (except for the background image tbh). It doesn't realy matters what system you're fighting or camping in - every belt looks the same, every gate-camp looks the same, for every system the same tactics can be applied.
Every gamer loves exploration (I DON'T MEAN dropping probes and waiting 2 minutes for "result"...yay...woohoo...), new areas, different surrounding that would require different approach. Can we have our EVE world a little bit more diversed and customized?
BTW - I love RECON mission, toxic cloud part It's the only part of EVE that doesnt look like anything else around. C'mon! We should have more like that (and not only for mission/exploration pockets).

What I dream about is to have systems that I could tell: "No, I dont want to fly there, it's too dangerous around" or "Hey mate, have you seen the Isinokka system? Man, it's so beatiful, you have to visit it someday" or sth like that.
Even the silliest of other MMOs have varied surroundings, things you'd like to USE, SEE or AVOID at any cost. Not just bazzilion of systems that are different only with the name and services on the stations inside.
Well - I don't want to repeat in the topic that was glued in the "Features and Ideas" - it was loooooong and contained MANY good ideas, I'd just like to know is there any chance that they'll get implemented.

The tactical environments were probably shafter due to the need for speed. Not only would they require database entries for all the places they occur but they would also need some real time calculation for the effects.
Maybe now with the improvements on the server code the tactical environments are getting closer to the point of viability.
Personally I'm looking forward to their implementation along with more random and unique world locations to discover, explore, fight over and mine out.

of course it would be cool if there would be a gas cloud or an asteroid belt close to a station that would "Block" the overview/scanner or scramble it or something similar and a fleet could wait in an ambush position and emerge guns blazing
that would be rather cool together with fleet formations
but with the current game engine that would be futile you know those enviroments would just appear rather than a gradual experience and ships can fire their maximum guns in 360¦ all the time anyways so there is not that much point in such a tactical enviroment
as for damaging clouds or shield mitigation clouds or similar if there is no point in interacting with them people wont go there
as it is now main pvp areas are gates stations and belts (and moons if your interested in sieging an area)
so you cant put a "nebula" (a thing thats as big as the grid arround a mostly fixed object) at a gate gives a HUGE advantage to the defender (lets asume there are shield and armor eating nebulas) because he is always prepared effectivly stopping all roaming gang warfare probably very similar with stations
as for asteroid belts in their current form having "shield mitigating" or "toxic clouds" would in all liklyhood just kill all mining or simply anoy them all into empire where they can take on the damaging enviroment + the small rats in empire or if the effect would be so small so it would be completly pointless
all in all tactical enviroments are a lovely idea in a long line of lovely ideas that are completly pointless or unfeasable with the current game engine / style (and ccp knows that) wich is a shame

CCP should introduce "annomilies" that can pull you out of warp into:
a) An Ion storm, preventing warp b) a gas cloud that reduces sensors, preventing warp c) .... d) profit!
Random chance annomilies would be a great thing, it would mke traveling araound more "fun" other then - right click gate -> WTZ -> Jump (rinse and repeat)
But it will never happen.....its a dream....

Yeap, but their intrest died somehow. It's strange that in EVE, which is a "space" game, there is so little fun in the (and with the) space itself.
Kinda like someone described here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/208-Eve-Online and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMSjd6HNQdY
I'd realy love to "feel" the space around me, not just use overview and nothing realy else.
So CCP, any chance for some info about it? Please please? Or we're stuck in "Excel-spaceship Age" for a while more?

One could make so much more out of it.
System wide boni/mali. Lets say because of the star activity in some system you can go faster/slower then in the other, or the warp-drive somehow gets influenced (needs longer/shorter to activate).
Or types of weapons could be influenced differently, lets say in some lasers are not working properly.
That would mean to choose your equipment, fitting and place where to fight. And i think it would also be easy to implement. But oh well, just a dream.

No.
Every system is different, because different players live in it who have different interests, different friends/enemies, fly different ships and use different tactics ... I could go on for several pages, but you should have got the point by now.
Oh, and if you insist: There's the tactical aspects of system size, station types, number of belts, location of gates (in / out of scan range), clouds at gates that uncloak you, etc. etc. ...
Basically what the op is asking for is more fluff that makes different systems appear different. No need for that, but wouldn't hurt either... (although I trust in CCP to implement it in a way that DOES hurt)
Even if you spend all day gatecamping with your corp without having a closer look around, you should notice that in different systems, the haulers drop different stuff.

yeah, put in ion storms, meteor showers, asteriods that might hit you (kinetic damage for most, make some explode >:) ). Then we could have fights that are crazy, give ratters a little more ability to hide, and give the losing side something to take advantage of to lead them to victory. Did anyone see Serenity? The part where the Alliances is ambushed by the Reavers thanks to the darn little firefly ship :)
Love that huge battle...

Not just fluff.. though even more fluff wouldn't hurt as you seem to agree
They could implement dangerous environments with rich rewards for those willing to enter them. Such as (random idea off the top of my head) a moon with valuable resources that could you could only anchor a tower in an electromagnetic field where ship shield systems simply cease to function, ie: shield reduced to 0% upon entering the area and cannot be boosted.
I'm sure there's lots of other crazy ideas people have come up with, but you know that if the reward is good enough people will go through hell to get it. I think it could add more depth and excitement to the game, which is a good thing. But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

I wanna know what the bloody hell happened to COSMOS, last I heard they had somebody working on extending it everywhere but that was like 2 years ago. People ***** a lot about balance, .0, ganking, carebear-vs-griefer etc. but the lack of unique geography is the #1 threat to Eve should someone else make a scifi MMOG that doesnt totally suck. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Wait.. What? You're asking for more, interesting space stuff to play with in an internets spaceship game? NEVER! What we need is walking in stations... Yes, that's it! And we need some funky name to sell it to the masses, because 'Walking in Stations' just doesn't have a ring to it... I know! Ambulation. GENIOUS.

Edited by: Tiberius Maddox on 06/10/2008 23:24:05 It's pretty damn hard to argue against making the EVE universe a more interesting place.
Doing this should be a no brainer, and certainly should have taken precedence over ambulation. Be that as it may, I'm still hopeful the EVE devs will eventually discover that space is a fascinating place and start to add some flavor to the game.
EVE's environments are currently about as interesting as the sidewalk in front of the local department store. 5,000 systems full of, well, nothing much. Small wonder everyone is fixated on killing each other in EVE, because there is certainly nothing else interesting to see and do.

You mean when you orbit someone at that perfect range for your guns and then smack into an asteroid and then while your ships molests it the enemy gets closer and owns you? __________________ "People die when they are killed."

theres a few missions where you fly into corrossive systems
why not add them to the game besides missions?
you can use the systems only if you have the resistances, armor, ect.

Quote: Wait.. What? You're asking for more, interesting space stuff to play with in an internets spaceship game? NEVER! What we need is walking in stations...
Yeah, rly. I bought and play EVE to fly SPACESHIPS, I've been playing in lots of other MMOs, got bored with them and that's why I looked for sth different. Don't get me wrong - I dont mind "Ambulation", hell - this can be even FUN, but... but...
Why CCP hires fashion designers, architects, plummers and lotsa other people to create "interesting and belivable stations interiors" while the space (HELLO! SPACE! 90% OF THE GAME HAPPENS HERE IN SPACE! duh) is dull, boring and empty? Why not hire some astronomy student or additional developer to add some little nice things that would make flying INTERESTING (not just "Autopilot engaged, Autopilot disengaged, Waypoint reached")?
It doesn't have to be 234532523 small particels at every gate to lag everything to hell, but just some... unique "things" that would make space more interesting and funny to see.
Gas clouds lowering guns precision, Ion storms reducing tank effectivnes, Ruined Stations interfering with targeting systems, gravity anomalies lowering missile dmg, etc etc etc etc etc etc. Some of them could be "stationary" some of them could happen at random in certain systems, think of the posibilities.
I belive it would add LOTS of depth into the game, FC would have to consider such events while planning their routes, pilots would have to keep notes like "BE-UN, heavy risk of ION STORMS, avoid when possible" etc.
Oh, and one more thing as a bonus - Dear CCP, dont push Jump Drives on every ship ;) What I would love to see in EVE is a CONVOY with the escort against pirate ambushes, not "Umm-I'm-lost" lonely badgers getting ganked or ninja-carriers doing trades in 0.0 areas.
Space without space things, traveling without travels, exciting exploration of unknown space without excitement - c'mon why it's like that? Those things SHOULD BE a back-bone of a S-F game IMHO.

If I recall correctly, the swirly-tornado doom-scape turns up in one or two other places as well. I can think of at least one COSMOS location off the top of my head. Though yes, more "prettiness" and variation of would be a nice introduction after all these years. The only major dissapointment for me when I started playing EVE that I can recall now, was that it lacked a sort of "Homeworld" prettiness to space.
Originally by: Sileam It doesn't have to be 234532523 small particels at every gate to lag everything to hell, but just some... unique "things" that would make space more interesting and funny to see.
Which to be fair they already do, though in my opinion not nearly enough. I'm sure some high security solar systems have debris and ruied stations located near certain stargates, for example. And I recall one 0.0 system (of all places) that featured a ruined station sitting off the warp in point for a planet, plus some asteroids and inert gas clouds. I don't know why it was there, but it did look sort of cool just being there.
Of course you're right, we don't need "234532523" of anything sitting around one area. The biggest problem for me when I first tried 0.0 (combat) exploration sites was that one of them featured the same station model on one position, rotated a variety of times to make it look different (or ******ed). Thus, the NPCs could easily kill you - thanks to the lag that this and other design "issues" in that particular instance introduced.
