Thx a lot for you're reply, it made a little light of hope sparkle deep inside of me :)
Could you possibly share a little bit more details about it?
Like: - will they be implemented to the whole system, or just for mission/explorations pockets? - are they custom for each system/constelation type or just random? - do they have any influence on the gameplay, or its just improoved graphics mod?
Or any info that is already in-progress, not just on the drawing board?

To do this kinda stuff it needs to be in deadspaces. Im guessing this means alot more static features in systems that are actually deadspaces allowing some interesting scriptable stuff.
There was also some discussion of moving belts into deadspace pockets (you could still find them easily without probes but it allows more interesting things)

I can't divulge too much about them at this point but I can tell you that Tactical Envirionments will affect gameplay. If they wouldn't then we'd just call them Environments ;)

I have posted a few ideas about tactical environments a while back.
shameless attempt at attention whoring
Basically the environments appear in a system and move with each downtime between locations. So one day the storm might be at a stargate, or near planet 2 and your favorite asteroid belts and the next day it might dissapear, only to spawn somewhere else in a constellation.

I belive it would be better if the appearance of such "Tactical Enviroment" wasn't random - fluff-wise and to let everyone plan a good strategy.
Fluff-wise: Think about WoW (yeah, I know...) or any other MMO and all those different regions, dungeons, sites and all the stuff you would like to see, explore and have fun in. One of the reasons you enjoy traveling and your gameplay - things around you are nice and interesting plus change quite often, so you'll not get bored. Not like "Empty space here, empty space there, empty space over there too... O! A concord billboard, whoaaaa...", right?
Tactics point of view: If you know you're route, while traveling you can plan some additional defences, choose other way or think of something else. If you plan a pirate ambush then you can try to set-up your squad to take advantage of some anomaly. Random stuff just messes with everything and that is bad when it comes to game like EVE, where a loss can cost you weeks of play. Roll a dice, 1-4 you lost your stuff, 5-6 you'll loose it later

I would like to see some star systems that are all dead space. I.e. mwd don't work. It would be fun to have places to do pvp with ab only. Nice change of pace. This should not take too much cpu.

I think it would be cool to also have systems that are protostar nurseries which are completely enveloped in gases thereby blocking off any use of a local chat box, except of course for the stronger and more direct fleet and personal communication frequencies. This could be interesting for a host of reasons.
Also it makes me wonder whether the recon mission 3 background could be used for a whole entire system. _______________________

System wide boni/mali.
Theres no such word as boni >_>
bo+nus n. pl. bo+nus+es 1. Something given or paid in addition to what is usual or expected.
yes there is.
as the word "bonus" is latin, the correct plural form is boni. But bonuses is also possible.

I would love to see tactical environments in systems, with stuff like plasma storms that mitigate blaster damage and do thermal damage over time to shields and hull, ion storms that mitigate laser damage and do EM damage over time to shields, micrometeorite clouds that do kinetic damage to the hull and shields over time and mitigate projectile damage and explosive gas clouds that do damage to the hull of ships and have a chance of blowing up a launched missile.
Or sensor interference in nebulae where local is scrambled, probes are jammed and ECM/ECCM works badly depending on the sensor type being jammed.
And some plain aesthetic stuff as well done to some systems to make them tourist destinations.

Bonus in latin and english are different things. 1 means greater the other means in addition too so the latin plural doesnt apply. But anyhow this one has been done to death and Boni usually loses

It's fine, C3P0. The EvE engine isn't capable of doing damage to your ship if you hit objects. You just kind of bounce off of them! __________________ Subscription ends: 10/13/08 Donations for a shiny new GTC? |

how bout positive effect environment? - gas clouds that give extra cap/shield recharge? - slow moving "sticky" meteors (you get extra amour if you got hit by them)
- rogue drones (repair bots who reps random ships), or maybe reps according to the pilot's sec status
- solar wind that work for/against you, makes u ship moves faster/slower depending on the direction (i don't actually know if solar wind = normal wind )
- moving asteroids that makes u fit nanofibers on hulks
- more billboards! now with "no. of ship destroyed in next system" warnings? and make it bigger and flashier
- aliens???

- Jove pirates hiding in storms - storms where you can only manually navigate and targetting range is perhaps 10km (visibility poor, but you can see engine trails...for a while)
The manual navigation also means that you can fly fast, but you need to avoid structures (or you crash). If you get attacked you can dive into a storm (if there is one) and perhaps loose them with the risk of hitting a asteroid etc. |

goddamn tease. In the mean time i will be flying fast through asteroid fields on X3. (Dang just got pancaked who put that asteroid there
Edit: thinking about it, physical asteroids wont work in EVE. Mainly anything you come close to now. slows you down so much that its annoying to manually click to away from the object to get away. And joystick flying wont happen in eve and no way to get that balance right. |

youre tackled by a small group of intercepters... you know its only a matter of time before they explode you, or backup arrives. but wait! 150km away an iso storm (whatever lol) is brewing and no doubt an interceptors hull will not be able to survive it...
tactical environments would be great :D
