This is blatent bullshit, as they keep your ship sat in a bubble out in 0.0 (therefore not protecting the pilot) but not if they log in lowsec whilst cloaked, whereby you disappear into thin air and are transported into magical laa laa land where its batemburg cake and crumpets for tea.
Now the GM I spoke to was excellent and looked into the issue thoroughly for me, but the surprising thing was neither he nor his superiors understood the way the cheating mechanics work. They truly did not realize it was possible to do the old logoff log on in rapid succession to move your warp back in point.
I suspect most of CCP dont actually understand what the issue is we are talking about. Scratcg their heads and say, well why dont they probe the logger! Why dont they wait at the gate for him to log back in?
Its the economy stupid!
This could be fixed by CCP incredibly easily.
If they are going to wash their hands of cheating in low sec (but not 0.0 for some bizarre reason) then the least they could do is maintain the spot where the person logged off at as the point where they will return to apon recomenncing connection.
But will they do it in this "cold hard universe"?
Three guesses

Kor annon has logged on atleast 3 occasions to our corp and has died each time, the last time i waited 3 hours for him to log back in purely because i hate logoffski that much.
Its a lame tactic but can be solved by probing them.
once intentionally and it was 5 mins before dt when i had no chance of winning, but if your that upset about it come duel me 1vs1, or is a even fight beyond you and your corp?
i dont blame you one bit. if you can avoid getting killed when you know you cant win(10v1). then that sounds pretty logical to me....cause lets face it,no one is going to 1v1.....and if they do and you win you will get gang by the rest of them and die anyways.
I wouldnt be suprised if they did tbh. But it would prove my point.

Minus the tinfoil and bile, I agree. I once chased a fenrir halfway across Old Man Star. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how I could get a scan, warp to him, start targeting and he'd vanish, only to reappear on scan a moment later, probe him down, lather, rinse and repeat until he docked.
My suggestion was and remains that if you log in, you remain logged in for 5 minutes, regardless of other conditions. A timer starts at login, your ship stays in space and doesn't ewarp or vanish if you disconnect. After 5 minutes of being logged in, existing game mechanics should apply.
this will affect more than the ppl who want to log off in fight...i know that if i just want to change a skill and had to wait 5 min every time i did, i would prob. get a little ****y about it.
That can be balanced by being in a safe place (station) when you do such things. I think that the risk of inconveniencing people who want to swap skills when their ship is in space logged out against bringing the hammer down on people who abuse the game mechanics is acceptable.
I spend a lot of time out in the middle of nowhere, so it would have a minor effect on me as well. But I could still do it, if I planned around it. So I see what you object to, I just think it's an acceptable consequence.
Your idea doesn't stop logoff tactics at all so what's the point? People who are inclined to do it will still do it, they just won't log back in.
Just like the new undock mechanics didn't get people any more kills while station camping (except from idiots who didn't know about the change), people just stopped undocking. But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

Well, I'd accept a minor victory if it would stop the mechanic of "logoff/logon/logoff/logon" to move your warpin point repeatedly and without any ability to engage you.
If it forces someone who pulls a logoffski to stay out of the game because they can't be sure their aggressors are waiting, so much the better.
I'll take small victories.

noted,i think that would work....or something similar. I dont log cause i dont get my self in positions where i would need to, so i would hate for the actions of other people make me suffer...*cough* US economy *cough**cough* __________________________________________________

Agreed. It is a 100% boldface LIE that CCP cannot code for the difference between an intentional logoff and a random crash/disconnect. ---- Train more. Whine less.

really? you think they can tell the difference between some one pulling the plug on their internet router? adn some one having an actual computer crash? or perhaps an isp meltdown? even if they coded to change mechanics for those who pressed CTRL +Q or actually used the log off button they cant sop people from pulling their net cable out or pressing alt F4.

No, they cannot tell the difference and I did not indicate that they could identify such a difference.
Quote: even if they coded to change mechanics for those who pressed CTRL +Q or actually used the log off button they cant sop people from pulling their net cable out or pressing alt F4.
If someone is desperate (stupid?) enough to yank their net cable, shut off their router, or ctrl-alt-del their system in order to save their ship, that's just pathetic.
The fact, and only point I made, is that it is easily within CCP's power to detect a "logoff" vs a "disconnect". And any GM, dev, etc that tells you otherwise is full of crap.
Ctrl-Q is just too easy. Why are people so terrified of taking some losses in a GAME? I guess some of these logoffski pros are the same whiners that get their mommy to call the dean when they get graded lower than they feel they deserve because they "worked so hard on that report."

Have you filed a bug report about this issue? Include any additional details that you can so that we can look into the issue.
There is no change, the op is describing what happens when someone logs whilst under gate cloak.
