The EVE Online: Empyrean Age 1.1.2 - Mac/Linux additions patch will be deployed this Wednesday, 08 October during the normal Tranquility downtime.
Patch Notes are available for review and the update will resolve issues affecting graphics, keyboard layouts, patching and stability amongst other things.
This patch will only affect Mac and Linux users and no additional downtime will be required. Mac and Linux users will be asked to update their version when they launch the EVE client again after downtime. Please note that this patch does not affect Windows users in any way.

Thanks, any improvement on the Linux and Mac clients is very welcome :)
By the way, are there any news on the availability of an official client supporting the Premium content on that platforms?

International keyboard layout, but no font fix? Station texture fixes but no space texture fixes? Maybe these other issues will be better with the latest Cider? Thanks for giving the Mac client some love. Moar Prz!

No. Only the cedega/cider side.

Please send us a bug report about the above mentioned issues you're experiencing and we'll look into it.

The MacBook isn't officially supported, because it lacks a high performance graphics card. This could be the reason why the you get the flickering.
Originally by: Altaree hmm, not 1.1.3?
Since this does not include any update to the EVE Online client itself, there is no need to call it 1.1.3.

If nothing happens you should already have the new update. To check if you have it:
1. Open finder 2. Go to applications 3. Click the EVE Online app and "Show Package content" 4. Open the Contents folder 5. Open the file Version.plist - In the document you should see "CiderBuild" and then a number afterwards. If you have 1823, then you have the new version. If you have 1481 you have the old version.

Looks like I'm getting a lucky escape. My version number is showing up as 5.11.64451 which is the latest version but it's not patched today at all, and the version in the plist mentioned is 1481 which is supposedly the old version.

Hi all.
We're looking into the cause of this issue on mac at the moment.
Those of you who are experiencing issues, please do the following:
1. Go here: https://bugs.eve-online.com/newbugreport.asp 2. Write a detailed description of what the problem is. Crashes? How often? Lower fps? How low? 3. Add what version of OS X you are running 4. Add what graphics card you are running 5. Start the system profiler and save it to an xml file 6. Zip it and attach to the bug report

Since the patch was only for Macs and did not appear to include any vitally important revisions, would it be possible to simply roll it back while the problem is determined?

On my MacBook Pro (which is supported) the fps went from in the 20's to 4. (1.7 in Jita, undocking was scary!)
Also before the patch, the computer's cooling fan would come on when I ran EVE, after the patch, it does not. Its not that EVE cannot run faster, its not even trying to run fast.
Bug report submitted.

The auto update through the EVE client doesn't seem to be taking on my 10.5.5 3.2 GHz MacPro. It downloads but even after a restart of the EVE client and a restart of the computer there isn't any change to the Cider version shown in the version.plist. (even under the administrator account).
I will say thank you for at least showing continued OSX support.

Installed patch on MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.4
- lost windowed mode -- no apparent way to get it back; this stinks
- defaulted to a fullscreen mode with resolution that makes text unreadable; able to correct by changing EVE preference screen resolution
- did NOT notice loss of framerate

MacOS 10.4 and I am down to 1.1fps in-game. Fullscreen seems to be the only opition right now as all efforts to get the game to start windowed are futile.

I had a old copy of the config file that I had to use as the config file after the patch did not have the 'fullscreen=1' thing

Mine says 1481 but is showing 5.11.64451 as the version number of eve. This seems to be the latest version which would explain why it doesn't think it needs to patch. Any Ideas ?

That doesn't address the problem that I've got whereby the version number of Eve is 64451 yet the cider build is still 1481 not that I particularly want a broken cider install. What am I supposed to do to get my install back to a consistent state ?

The cider version number is unrelated to what EVE build number you have. You can have both 1823 or 1481 but still run the latest version of EVE 64451. As for why you cannot update is because we have temporary disabled the patch, while a fix for Cider 1823 is being worked on.

I have been having numerous problems since the patch. Since I rarely if ever check my framerate I cant say whether that took a hit or not. It has seemed much more "laggy" - jittery, jumpy graphics.
I have started to freeze/ crash much more again. That had gotten better for a few months , now has become much more frequent. It tends to be mid mission when a lot of incoming fire is targeting me. Good time to freeze eh? So far I have not lost my ship as I used to routinely. I have lost many sets of drones, both t2 as well as sentries. Both a hassle and an expense. That Mac Tax again:(
Also my Overview has been completely messed up since last patch. Not only did I loose my previous settings and tabs, now when I save new settings any alteration to one tab affects all the others. The settings dont stick. I'll set it to see all ships and after warping into mission I will see no rats, yet see the incoming fire streaming towards me.
I use a iMac 2.8 GHz, 4GB SDRAM, 10.5.5, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
Seems like we are marching backwards in the land of the EVE Mac client.

We would really like an official standing and ETA on Premium graphics on the Mac please. We at least deserve an honest answer please. Its not like CCp share price can drop as a result :-)

No visible difference on my 1st gen MBP with Radeon X1600 256 MB and 10.4.11, but then there were no major visual bugs to begin with. Framerate, as usual, disappointing, 30 FPS in station, 15-20 in space. System load when docked and station environment is loadedà don't even make me start
Guys, this is basic stuff. Is making the rendering engine use less resources when the app is minimized and in the background is really that hard to do? --

Before I make the mistake of installing this patch (again), does it lose the ability to run in windowed mode on the Mac?

"Before I make the mistake of installing this patch (again), does it lose the ability to run in windowed mode on the Mac?"
It defaults to full-screen every launch, but CMD-RETURN (not CMD-ENTER) changes it to windowed mode. Station graphics still not fixed on my Macbook Pro (works fine on a Macbook) and I've had one crash already, just when I brought the app to the front. I seem to be getting a somewhat differnt problem.
My FPS are fine, but I am getting frequent (3 times in an hour) crashes when running in windowed mode. It seems to happen when switching to or from the EvE window to somewhere else.
No log files as far as I can see though. No .dmp files on my drive.
Submitted a bug report on the issue.

The international support (thats greek keyboard for me), works fine but the thing is that I still cannot change keyboard layouts in-game. At least I can see what others are saying...

Please reply if this resolves the FPS issue some of you have been experiencing.
I attempted to click the revert link and got a 404.

Bad experience for me today - well I logged on, patch auto loaded (Mac os X 10.5.5). Resumed a mission I started last night ( warped in, turned on armor hardeners, damage control, targeted rats, started my ship moving away from them, launched my five tech 2 drones. about that time I was not able to control any modules, drones, ship at all. kept giving me a message " An attempt is underway to activate the module. Please wait until that has completed". I could type in my corp chat window, though later they said they did not see it. it was not a true freeze, as I have had and petitioned in the past numerous times, as there was still motion of my drones and the opposing ships on my screen, if I attempted to activate any module, weapon, drone I kept getting that same message . I could not withdraw my drones, I could not warp out. Eventually I received the "connection lost" message and I was bounced out. I re-booted (as EVE wrecks havoc on my comp if I dont do that frequently) and when I re-entered Eve I was in warp, had significantly more damage to my ship than before the period of inoperability started. Of course my drones were not withdrawn into my ship (sigh!). I warped in and one drone had not been killed yet, i was able to re-claim him , I warped out to station. Notes: No sound on, No other applications running on comp, no downloading etc. Speedy cable connection that had no problems during this time, my comp is well within system req's for EVE. While I have had numerous freeze/crash episodes during which I have lost drones, lost ships and in some case lost nothing other than faith in ccp. It has never behaved this way before. This is a new way to crash, only since todays patch. Of course I have been having issues since the prior patch too ( overview broken , etc)

Edited by: Revver on 21/10/2008 23:52:55 ok, after todays update, my fps is even slower now as well. when i start to warp from a gate, the fps drops to about 9fps, and stays to about 15fps max until i come back into normal space and settles around 25-30. i've tried lower my graphic settings, and turning off things like "missle effects", "trails", etc but nothing works. will try the downgrade on the cider version next, and re-update
My system specs are a White bezel iMac with Mac OSX 10.5.5 (previous Tiger 10.4) , 2gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, 2.16 ghz Intel core 2 duo, 7600 gt 256mb, 250gb sata drive....I have one of the early generations of the Imac's with the switch to the intel platform.

I also had that "freeze with control, but still no control" episode. Not really funny when you are in enemy space with a taranis.
No graphical bugs though (well nothing new anyways). Running iMac 20" C2D 2.16GHz, 2Gt Ram, X1600 256mt and running on Tiger.

Not sure if that is for this patch specific. I have this 2-3 times a month. No way of telling if the connection gets lost then to 'get info' on a chat char. Usually this finally tells the client something is wrong and you get thrown out to the login screen. On occasion I myself pull the plug, since this only happens when you're in combat. Didn't loose any ships yet, but it was on several occasions a very close call.
On a side note: I haven't installed this patch, rather fond of the FPS I have now and I have no graphical bugs atm.

Edited by: kesnut on 22/10/2008 08:49:38 iMac 2ghz intel core 2 duo with RadeonX1600 the patch has crached 3 times on me, the one before not never done so before. The station graphics are cut with a off white screen in half from the top left to the bottom right of the screen. Rotating the view helps part of the image back.
how can i download the version before this patch. this one one is not working out but do keep up the hard work...

Hi. On a MacPro 2.66 with ATi Radeon x1900 the situation after the latest patch has worsened. In station I have a diagonal line from corner to corner with half the station graphics showing and half solid gray. For me the game is playable but it ain't pretty.

Edited by: Vint Rotach on 22/10/2008 15:59:03 Station graphics still bugged. (Half the screen covered with diagonal grey, cuts my ship in half)
Map still doesnt show the resized blobs for agents in space etc. Just get the single green pixel for each system, not the huge green blob for lvl4s etc.
Reset cache etc.
Will tinker more then bug report it when I get a chance.

So, third patch for the same issues and they still aren't fixed. Damn.
I haven't had any crashes, but it does feel a bit "jiggy". Sometimes when the ship is rotating at bay it kinda misses a few beats. This happens elsewhere too and i have no other programs on.

Link to the revert patch still empty.
Getting a bit annoyed with the decrease in stability in this update.

So I just installed this. I like how it claims to fix station graphics, and when I started it up, for the first time ever the station interior was bugged. It was just all lights and some stray gray polygons.
So still a WIP. |
