1. Copy/Paste is still borked ûáadds additional termination character 2. Shortcuts for copy/paste should not use control 3. Use system fonts and fix unicode character rendering ûáno more boxes! 4. Where is Premium? 5. Not enough hugsà?
Write more than 5 if you like. Also, CCP staff are welcome to post to this list and share their most annoying bugs.

Top 5 that I have noticed that bother me 1. Lack of premium, this gives me chronic sad panda face 2. The boxes in chat are reeeeeally quite silly. 3. Copy paste is a bit frustrating at times. 4. No CCP Casqade action figures. Seriously, "will be ready in 3 months" 6 months ago, doesnt cut it. =P 5. I cant find anything else. will edit if I find necessary.

I don't have a top 5 but what bugs me a bit is 1: Missing the awesomeness of the premium client 2: The target windows sometimes getting stuck in the center of my screen (no idea if that's Mac specific). 3: Copy/paste as described is somewhat 'unfunctional'. 4: FPS could be better but I guess that's inherent to having a wrapper emulate windows things on my Mac. 5: No idea

Issues: 1) Font size, legibility etc. 2) Font size, legibility etc. 3) F11 maps 4) Font size, legibility etc. 5) copy & paste
Non issues: 1) Premium graphics (as log as station models are made the same in both versions so that using premium is no more required for correct placement of cyno fields close to a station).
P.S.: force all CCP employees to work at 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution both at work and at home (including non programmers so that they keep bugging the programmers) until whoever is in charge of the client text rendering gets a clue. Then force them to work at 1024 x 768 until the clue becomes literacy. Finally pray for it to evolve to knowledge and then skill.

1) the crashes that require a reboot to be able to run programs stably again. Would file a bug report but there isn't any useful debug output 2) unicode, fonts, etc 3) copy/paste 4) shortcuts should be using cmd, not ctrl those are my top 4 big issues, premium is a distant 5th. It seems they fixed the map and station issues |

Sisi works fine for me. Here is what I did:
1. Installed current TQ client 2. Changed the prefs.ini to include the line "server=87.237.38.50" 3. Started the client 4. SISI asked me to download the patch using the autopatcher 5. I did 6. Working
Can you please file a bug report where you detail your steps and explain where it fails?

1: limited resolutions with in window mode. I mean specailly the lack of widescreen sizes. Both available resolutions are unusable for me 2: killmail copy/paste problem. only ways I can post killmails is by using the in-game browser or Battleclinics automatics (does not work with losses) 4: Eve makes the comp hot and fans blow all the time (which will eventually break the machine, but a laptop wont last for long anyway) 5: something in the back of my mind, but can't really point it out atm
Otherwise I am quite happy with things. Couldn't care less about Premium, Sisi works if you can find the right patch: http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/server_status.php I tried with the new Cedega patch, no problems there either. I have no frequent crashes, no big problems with maps or stations, so there. But I am playing with Macbook :) which is not officialy supported but work fine if you have 4 gigs of memory. So my biggest fear is that you start supporting it and everything starts breaking. So please don't support Macbooks.

1. Heat is a major issue. No other app works my MBP as much as the Eve client. Casualties so far: 1 motherboard replacement, 3 battery replacements (new batteries died due to excessive heat) and 1 dead Nvidia board that Apple now admits is Nvidia's fault.
2. Very poor performance on my Mac Pro (better cpu, more ram) but I can run even 2 clients easily on my MacBook Pro (go figure). Poor Mac Pro is relegated to booting into XP so that it can be my main machine for missions and pvp.

This has nothing to do with the Mac client and therefore doesn't really belong in this thread. However there are reason why it is the way it is, changing it would result in people getting stuck on objects. This used to happen back in the days when people activated the warp to command too soon after undocking, couldn't turn it off and were stuck bumping the station.

Sry, didn't read the "mac related" in the title..
Anyway..
Quote: there are reason why it is the way it is, changing it would result in people getting stuck on objects. This used to happen back in the days when people activated the warp to command too soon after undocking, couldn't turn it off and were stuck bumping the station.
If that is the reason than it is even sader than i thought. But it has a good point too, I have the solution to the problem!! : Do you know what at least I do in real life, when i get stuck at some object? I walk arround it! I am not 100% sure, but i think this strategy could work in computer games as well.
I guess it's hard to realize, but i guess it was hard to realize the whole game.. I am sure it is a solveable problem, if programmers would just try hard enough. In the end it's a bug - the fact that it hasn't been solved for a long time now doesn't change that. TeῑϞηaϞ Γ |

The point is also, that to the ship to understand "walk around" you need to configure it and give it code + brains to think it. This causes more calculations = lag.

Originally by: Dr Sheepbringer The point is also, that to the ship to understand "walk around" you need to configure it and give it code + brains to think it. This causes more calculations = lag.
Every action in a computer game causes calculations. With your argument you could just stop designing a game b4 even starting with it, because.. actions will cause calculations and therefore lag. Secondly it even has some sort of realism, that a complicated warp path would cause more time to be calculated. Even Han Solo's Milenium Falcon is calculating the path b4 jumping through the light wall, because otherwise it could happen that it collides with an object, or comes too close to a supernova ;). When beeing in the middle of an asteroid field, sure.. why shouldn't the calculation last linger then? It would even bring in another uncertainty factor, that would cause intresting unforeseeable situations in the game (damn! Rats are comming.. come on, warp, warp!!).
Again: I don't doubt that it maybe is hard to build that in the game. But one could think that thats the game programer's job, or not? And i really doubt, that it is easier to bring in a walking in stations feature, or other additions, than to fix this ethereal-matter-issue. I far more think that this is the well known phenomena of: It's way more interesting to create new things than to fix old things. And as the EVE-community seems to have accepted this issue CCP will not face the problem (not a clue why). TeῑϞηaϞ Γ |

You can control it using the "presentation interval" setting. If you set it to "immediate" you are telling the client to continuously redraw. You should set it to 1 (I personally set it to 4 as it still gives me an acceptable framerate).
Originally by: Rakshasa Taisab 3. Windowed mode lacks proper control of screen size.
This is because the cedega layer sucks. There's nothing CCP can do until the cedega guys redesign how they handle the virtual screen. From the EvE client point of view he's always running on a machine that does not support windowed mode at all. ---

I know, I was the one who first suggested it on these forums...
It still isn't low enough, I'd like to get it down to 10 fps while docked as I spend hours in stations. Also, the cpu usage goes to 100% when switching virtual desktop... Which means the client itself needs to throttle the fps.

ok I played now for about a week, and i can state the following
a) I dont care too much about the premium client... its nice (tried it on my windows machine) but not a must, I would really prefer to have the basic client run without any issues.
b) issues on the client are the falls rendering of the mini maps... very anoying
c) the graphic issues in space such are when i use shield boosts or use rockets.. annoying as well
d) pls get it to be friendy on my macbook pro, since i use this most of the time to play and now have to sotp once in a while when it gets too hot for my liking.
Thnx

1. Client crashes about 1 second after I log in. this goes on for an hour, then stops mysteriously. On Mac Pro, Imac and Mac Book 2. Client crashes when I launch highly expensive fighter drones. Bye bye 100-300 million isk 3. Rather than just use eve effects the client improvises by using random text from the clipboard when armor repping etc 4. Poor FPS on a 3 Ghz macpro with 8800 GT. Like 15 fps. This is very poor. 5. No Premium graphics.
Please fix the crashing!

Uncheck the "load station environment" flag (need to do it for each account separately) and then clear your cache. It gave me much less heat when docked. ---

When this happens, if you log out (of your user on the mac, not eve) and then log back in, it seems to clear the problem up. Not a great solution, but usually better than waiting an hour to log back in.

Soldera is right, I had the same issue until now luckyly just once, restarted my system and everything was ok again and i did not have it since..... It happened while being in windowed mode and surfing via Firefox, first the browser crashed and than the game. While the browser afterwards worked fine the game was not startable till restart.

1) Last version crashed an average of every couple days; latest patch crashes every few minutes. For PvP, this is UNPLAYABLE. I am only using the client to login, change skills and log back out. Until they fix it at least.
2) The screwed up text/images/whatever that take over the in-game textures at a certain point. So like, smoke trails and explosions are made up of text and images from other parts of your OS desktop/applications/whatever that are open. Maybe this was fixed in this patch? Since it crashes too often, I wouldn't know.
3) PREMIUM CONTENT.
4) Fonts are a little cruddy. Copy and paste is iffy.

1. Really longing for the Premium client. 2. Really hoping that when Ambulation comes out, we won't have to wait for it like we are now for the Premium client (if it does, that'll be the last straw for me and I'll bootcamp and get Excel for my spreadsheets).
... nothing else actually. The EVE client has been more or less stable on my machine since launchùnot without its own fair share of crashes, yes, but not to the point where it was completely unplayable (completelyùmore like just annoying). But playing without Premium is like playing a different game, and I'd really appreciate the support. |

1) frequent (hourly?) crashes of the client 2) buggy, laggy, crashing juke box 3) no premium grafics
4) and 5) didnt managed to come down to these, i am too busy to deal with the first three.
comment on 3): well, feeling handicapped, underprivileged which is frustrating comment on 2): most argue "turn sound off", which is silly imo, cuz its like having an airconditioning in your car, which is defect and people keep telling you " just turn it off"...... to ignore a problem doesnt make it solved comment on 1): u can use it - somehow, but would u use or even rely on a machine, a transport, a whatever, knowing/not knowing when next and how often it will cease functionning? Ah, its a game! this is not real life, its not serious? how funny is it when TV shuts off after 52 min of " live program"? would u be pleased to turn on the radio instead? how funny is it, reading a book, when u discover pages 125 to 187 are simply missing?
I thought and have still the feeling that we mac-users are with EvE, are part of EvE, as everybody else is, and not (i hope so) just being tolerated, not just "place holders".

1,2,3, and 4: DirectX. I'm pretty sure 80% of my problems stem from this because it requires emulation. For instance: I've had my ship spew market text instead of flames when damaged. I've had clouds of pie charts instead of ... clouds. I've had space look like a cube wallpapered with bits of excel spreadsheets. It reeks of bad pointers...which is quite disturbing (see issue #6 below).
5. Fonts/keyboard: Similar: ctrl or cmd or opt+key does the hotkey *and* puts a character into the chat. When I bind a hotkey, I don't want to have to go and delete characters out of the chat box.
6. Memory leaks. I don't know if these are from EVE or Cider though, but when an app causes other apps to crash, that's an issue.
Aside from that, though, the client has been orders of magnitude more stable when the first Cider release appeared about a year ago. All in all pretty good, but it still needs a lot of polish.

Those are due to a confirmed bug in Apple code. I'm still lobbing for CCP/Transgaming to code a workaround.

A quick fix: go into your graphics settings and change some setting, apply, revert the setting to it's original, apply, and go back to the game. Should've un-****ed itself. Rinse and repeat though every time that **** happens :(

Hrm. My search-foo seems to find this bug regarding large textures. Basically looks like the OpenGL driver doesn't return an error if a large texture is allocated which is too big for memory. The curious thing is that the test code this guy has does not produce an error on my computer (I don't get artifacts) but I get artifacts in EVE.
Any other info you guys know?

This is actually not specific to the Mac client, I've had this happen a lot on my Windows machine. Usually it happens when I'm running two clients and I go AFK with them both still logged on for an extended time. I come back and they are both there but as soon as I try to do anything that has to call data from the server it dies.
My list:
1) Graphical issues with things like shield boosters, deadspace graphics (like the clouds in Blockade) 2) Copy and Paste 3) Shortcuts using Control instead of Command

1) Constant crashing in the last month, even worse after Quantum Rise 2) messed up textures 3) problems with windowed mode: unable to resize (would you please take system menu bar into account? the lower 20px of screen real estate fall off the monitor); small fonts; bad crashing (worse than when in full screen) 4) having ctrl-alt drone commands types the character into the local window, too again for emphasis: CRASHING!! are we liable for reimbursement when we lose ISK because of client crash?

Those of you with frequent crashing... have any of you tried disabling Audio Acceleration?
I tried it when I read this... http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9971
Well... I tried it in Crossover playing the windows client. But its made it a lot more stable for me. I haven't fully tested yet but so far its been promising.

Turning audio off makes the client much more stable. I haven't had a crash for hours since turning off audio. Still have one crash per session though, which makes using drones a pain in the neck.
1) Client crashes within 1 hour of gameplay 2) Unstable audio (often have missile firing sounds that don't play when the missiles are fired, they end up being fired when the missile launcher is turned off) 3) EVE runs incredibly slowly compared to native client in Windows on the same hardare 4) EVE uses far more processor on Mac (100%) compared to windows (25%) 5) Sound breaks up and becomes unbearable after more than half an hour or so of gameplay. Turning audio off and back on will fix this. 6) Having to log out (in Mac OS X) and back in again to prevent other applications such as Dock, Finder, iTunes crashing after playing EVE for even a few seconds.

May be related to the memory leak. See if it still does it after the patch they deployed today.

Are you running the classic version of eve under windows or the Premium? You can only compare the mac client with the classic version. Premium, of course, does use less CPU.

Would be interesting to know what hardware you are running it upon. Also if you are somewhat sure that the client crashes because of something related to sound, you should file a bug report complete with the crash log created by cider (you need to run cider from the command line as explained here) and ideally also the stack trace you get from the Apple Crash Reporter setup as explained by Qordel here.
Also note that the cider version that is currently deployed by CCP is known to be somewhat unstable for many players. There was a rollback patch that would take it back to the previous cider without reverting the EvE client itself. But I do not know if it will still work after today's patch. You may need to wait for Casqade to deploy a new one.

I'm afraid to say that I'm still experiencing frequent crashes, one about every two hours or so while mining today.
Before the patch, I was able to Force Quit the client, and log straight back in. Now, I need to reboot, or else the client will quit almost immediately upon relogin.
It doesn't appear that textures and images for the solarsystems (F11 key) have been fixed in this release. Nevertheless, that and the lack of Premium content, for me, are the 3 most annoying bugs on the Mac client. -static zero |

For what I can see there's still some memory leak. Not Mac/Linux specific: it's the EVE client that leaks, not the Transgaming layer. This will probably be the very next patch (I'm sure this is exactly what they are working upon right now).
The Premium graphics (I do not care of this and I'd be happy without them, if the client worked) will be available very very soon, according to what Transgaming told us at the fanfest. Write to Santa and he may actually manage to bring them to you (at lest on SiSi).
The F11 map bug is one of those that is blamed onto Apple drivers bugs. Very annoying. At least the planetary mode of the main map does work. Note, however, that there'll be a compete overhaul of the client and the scanner (including some sort of new map system) coming early next year.

Hi all.
Here are the issues I gathered from the posts written. I filtered out the ones I did not understand.
- International keyboard layouts missing
- Unicode Support
- Client Stability
- Performance
- Lack of Premium
- Copy paste leaving %00 at the end
- No Starmap Lines between solarsystems
- F11 maps
- Jumping mouse cursor
- Station interior graphics corruption
- Singularity availability
Please reply if you can think of something more or if you believe that the latest patches have resolved any issues or made things better. I am specifically interested in the stability.

Being able to switch keyboard layouts while in game, just like on Windows.
Example. If I start EVE with a Swedish keyboard layout, and switch to American in OS X. EVE still uses a Swedish layout, not the new one...
I don't know if it's hard to fix, but I would love you Casqade. (Even more...)

Aurora, you may want to send your love to Casqade anyway, but 99% sure that's more a problem Transgaming has to address.
As for the changes in the later patches: - unicode: I'm having much better support than it used to be. No more squares when the russians speak, for example. - stability: went much worse, then back to betterish. sometimes it changes with the patch. We'll see after tomorrow's patch that is supposed to remove leaks. - performance: much better with the latest patches - f11 maps: fixed for me lately - sisi: it has been available most of the time lately (not that I actually tested a lot however). you have been doing better in the patch management in general recently (also in posting rollbacks when needed etc).
note however that this is an old thread and we have been trough a lot of changes recently. would be nice to redo this after the dust on the recent changes settles (actually no: go ahead and post the uber cider and premium without waiting for any dust settling ).

My wish list:
1) more choices about the screen resolution, I'd like to run the client in windowed mode using a resolution which better fit a 16:9 screen (something like a 1440x800 or so) 2) a button which let me call the garbage collector of the client 3) the capability to cap the fps with a pure number (in order to avoid / decrease the heat issue), being able to decrease the fps of the client when it run in the background would be nice.

I know people keep asking about premium content, but I'd personally rather have a 100% stable client above all else with current graphics.
1. I keep seeing really messed up graphics in Grav Sites and mission sites. (totally broken graphics, shows the names of objects and not the objects).
2. The crashing happens, usually after a bit of alt-tabbing in and out of game.
3. That's actually all I got. Things have improved framerate-wise and the keyboard issue is pretty much almost completely fixed (the paste thing). About as solid as it has been since I started playing about a year ago...
4. The Orca is limited to maximum 5 jetcans or so >.> but that may not really be a Mac issue...
5. :D

Not a biggie but; I have from time to time found that my mouse button will not let me scroll in chat windows, cargo bays, station items folder or my overview, when I'm doing a mission. The scroll wheel still works though, since I can use it to zoom in or out, it just refuses to scroll in windows up/ down.
Usually at the end of said mission the function to scroll in windows up/ down, magically re-appears.

Now that most severe issues have been cleared I would vote for some new screen resolutions in window mode too. Macs are widescreen anyway and both current resolutions are unplayable for me (on 13' Macbook) atm as the bottom part of the window is cut outside the screen.

i dunno if someone say it, but copy-paste need us to use the ctrl key, I (we?) rather prefer to use the command key (command on mac = ctrl on PC), it's sure pretty annoying when we wish to copy-past from ingame<->outgame.

1) sometimes the complete GUI Freeze (needs Reboot) - its not that often ;-) 2) crashes (running more then one client in window mode) 3) premium content
and last but not least - a free Titan for every Mac User - i realy miss that ;-)

Strange ... cmd key for copy and paste works fine for me ingame<->outgame. Have to use ctrl-A to select all the objects in can though.

Hi, Please add the 'corrupt in-space textures' to the list. This is very annoying in combat. The work-around of changing graphics settings (depth, z-buffer settings) generally works, but now always. Also, this sometimes crashes the client.
Thanks for helping with these issues Casqade

17" 2GHz iMac Core 2 Duo, 2G RAM.

Sound problem is back with the latest patch. I'll set my system up to always run EVE from the command line, and see if I'm lucky enough to get a crash log when it locks up my computer.

^^ What he said!! My trouble with this started 3 DAYS into my trial period. It almost turned me off to the game completely (took me a bit to find people that were having the problem too, and info)
