Things like designs for covers, displays and so forth. Anyway I just finished one of the rough designs for my first project, which is a dvd case cover for Eve online and thought I would share. Game Cover Like it? Dislike it? Would you buy eve if you saw this cover? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase: Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

Also, try to use EVE's new title design instead of the rusty-metal look.
Maria Kalista	Posted - 2008.10.10 09:25:00 - [9] Nice, not bad but could use some work. 1- try to blend the 3 faces of the DVD, front, mid, back into 1 2- As said the mac/linux/pc 'title' on the front is way to big, this should be, btw only say EVE as title, wack the mac/pc/lin text somewhere in the bottom but small or leave it out its on the mid and back already. 3- the mid section, rotate the CCP logo so you can center it like the rest, put that on top and the mac/pc/lin stuff at the bottom but smaller, move the mac, linux logo's etc. to the back and size them down significantly. I like the back cover. Just try to make the whole look as 1 and not 3 separate parts. Good luck!

Show one ship that can be flown at character start on the front and then you have the BS on the back with the rifter shown to the side with a little bubble to show that the little ship is the same as the ship on the front of the box. Gives a sense of scale within the game pre-purchase. Put the PC/Linux stuff under the parental guidance lable. YOu have it on the side so it is not necessay to put that up front. Also most buyers will look for the accepted formats anyway so they do not need to be excessively bold. Also as said above maybe one of the brighter EVE backgrounds for the cover. The back looks good. Not sure how indepth you want to go for this, but maybe make the text boxes look like a pinned version of the in game windows. Last thing, that would be eye-catching if possible, is a rendition of the universe map somewhere. That may just look like a blob at the scale of a box so that may be a stupid idea. Seeing as Eve can go on three platforms I just took it one step further however looking back I do agree it is a bit much and should change or drop it all together. -Front Cover Unfortunately I had a thumb drive with only a few images I had taken ahead of time with the proper format. As this was a first attempt I really needed something rather than nothing in that space. Id definitely like to change the front image to something more mainstream though for the next pass at it. Also, the Eve title logo is from Trinity. The newest one seemed to be a throwback. -Cost Technically its not ôfreeö. Eve has a 20 USD activation charge after a 2 week trial and offers a free month of play for the first month. In any case though thatÆs beside the point. In any case, thanks to the guys who actually gave intelligent input. IÆll post the revamped version when I can.

It is beside the point, but it's foolish to get 14 days of trial and than pay that activation fee. Get the 21 day trial from Steam and then apply a GTC. Total cost $34.95 for 81 days instead of $20 for 42-45 days depending on month. But a box that costs $ 49.95 and advertises as included 60 days total playtime + a GTC for extra 60 days or a startup ISK capital (actual value market dependent) could be an interesting way to get your foot wet with EvE. And a bigger more expensive box could bundle an EON subscription + the book + the eve maps.

The white format letters up top are waaaaay too big and eye catching, they shouldn't be on the front at all imo. Wouldn't use a rather rare faction battleship as the eye grabber, either. Not a fan of the swirly effect, doesn't blend very well, although that might just be because of the white color. The back is actually pretty good, that's a very good mega screenie, and the general layout is nice. Maybe don't use gray for the text boxes, it's a little bland. All in all though, it's better than what I could do ;)

I may end up asking some fellow eve players if they would be kind enough to take some photos of various ships and what not for me tommorow or sunday, depending on how much of the other work I get done.

Pimpenium Falcon. I'd maybe lose "All nine expansion packs!" (is that a selling point? Will most people know or care about any of them but Trinity/Empyrean Age?) and I'd say "EON Magazine Subscription" but that's just me. Did you consider listing some of the things you could do on the feature list too? MINE DEEP SPACE ASTEROID BELTS FIGHT IN VAST SPACE ARMADAS BECOME AN EVIL SPACE PIRATE etc. Maybe you don't have to use the word "space" in all of them. Maybe that's too cheesy generally. I'm hoping to use EVE in my dissertation.

Then I realized the left portion of the front was intended for the side. Might make that clearer with a very subtle line. Probably not necessary though. Was just me being slow. I think the Machariel was a good choice of ship for this, 'cause it... is. I'm going against the grain here to say that I liked the old rusted metal look of the old logo. I know it's a rough design, but the lettering on the new cover screams MSPaint when combined with the otherwise colourful front cover. Or maybe my eyes are just snagging on the jaggys. I like how you didn't try to cram a bunch of stuff onto the front too. The single Mach is nice, very nice. All in all, very cool. I for one would take this off the shelf and have a look. Davina: Good point on the 9 expansion pack ad (yes its an ad). I orginally thought it was a good idea to indicate that the game has been out awhile and that alot of content in the form of expansions has been added. Further more, indicating that its an all in one package (as opposed to say Wow, that makes you buy each seperate expansion in its own package) was also something I was considering, but if the average individual wouldnt really care one way or another it might just do to drop the 9 expansions ad all togeather. I didnt include the things that a player could do but rather what the game itself offered, IE single server, 5000 systems, etc. Kylar: Thats actually the Monolith from the Dead End system, planet 5 moon 5 (check it out, its full of stars ) Sigfried Untreu: The Win/Mac/Linux icons are orginal size. What I did was take the game boxes of other games (Myst in particular), scanned the covers and then cut them out to use for the design. The Icons, after looking at it, might do with just a hair of a reduction in size. I studyed basicly all of the game boxes that I had and the one common theme they had was that the rating was both in the front (the abreviated rating) and then in the back with the reasons. Im assuming thats a design requirement so I wont change it as I am trying to mimmic a retail product. The lower right image was taken from CCP's corporate website actually so I would assume thats how its supposed to look, though I have seen it white before (maybe a dev could comment on this). Tell your friend thank you for me please as it's helped me rethink a few things with the cover. You want something that's still very readable but a bit slicker. - Needs balance; all the little icons and boxes should line up with each other and be the same size. Same on the back, the teen rating box should be the same width as the images above it, and the same height as the text box on the left. - Text boxes on the back are too low-contrast. I think it would look better with a darker box and text in white.

I've been thinking of making an real cover for a EVE Collections DVD (this one lacks a backside aswell and it's a bit too thick), with the eve clients and a load of bonus stuff, movies, trailers, soundtrack, guides, chronicles, wallpapers etc.. Both Official And fan-made stuff.. My dad has an awesome printer, so I'm gonna print it when it's completed :P I'll post the entire cover then. That seemed to help some but im still noticing pixialization.
