Need some help on low-sec smartbombing. Where should i sit on the gate (above, below, etc). When should i hit the bombs, as there coming out of warp? Any information provided will be greatly apreiciated, anyone that actually does this and can give advice would be great. Thank you.

Ive never done this but I might be able to work out a good aproach.
Think about what direction most the traffic is coming from and then warp to the gate from that direction, IE another gate. get at like 5,500m so that your not so close that your smarties are lockedbut you still overlap the area where they would be locked so you can hit stuff between you and the gate. the warp to 0 makes it so if they are quick though the gate will make them invulnerable as soon as they tell the ship to jump, So I really dont see it working all that good. but activate them as soon as you see the target.

Bang on for positioning in my experience
But if you activate as soon as you see the target you will probably be too late. You either perma run them, or you use your ship scanner to find incoming ships from your target gate. When you have a new ship on scan then you light up the smarties, but in sequence so you always have some damage going. As you get better at it then the timing may be something you can work on.

Don't forget that ships still take damage from smartbombs even if they are in warp. Your best chance to get them is while they are decelerating to the gate.

Why do you want to smartbomb a low sec gate? Do you have visions of yourself collecting hundreds of thousands of killmails and lots of lovely loot? LOL

(a) Inline from gate A to gate B, 5000+1 metres from the gate. (b) Basically. Takes a bit of practice to activate them in the correct moment. I have a few corpmates who do it a lot, never tried it myself though.

If you don't want gate gun aggro for smartbombing the actual gate itself, you need to be more like 7000m away from the gate, in line with whatever celestial you're trying to catch people from.
Distances shown in EVE aren't from the edge of an object to the edge of another (at least not all the time), so while the range on smartbombs is 5000m, you can very well hit stuff close to 6500m away, depending on what it is (gates, for example).

It isnt exactly rocket science...
Get to the gate you want to smartbomb, move in direction where most travels comes from, activate smartbombs when you see someone coming. If you cant activate smartbombs, you are too close to gate, if you activate them too early, you should activate them later.

Sit just over 5000m from the gate in line with the other gate they are coming from. Using a macro to activate all smartbombs at once is very helpful.

so why then isnt this an exploit? your killing a player when they have no control over their ship and often as not you can pod them b4 their client has even realise the ship is dead
so serious question... how is this not an exploit? and yes i have had it done to me and i dont like it smells of cheat to me to be perfectly frank

No such thing as smartbombing anymore. Warping to the gate at zero is perfectly safe.

One of the 1st repliers had it right, and I've done it a lot.
It's so funny watching a pod decelerating out of warp, and then just .... disappear... :)
Fit faction smartbombs for greater range and damage if possible. Put as many as you can on a BS and sit as close to 5km from the gate as you can in the direction of the most heavily traveled gates, station, or whatever.
A mega, apoc, etc. do quite well and if you time it right you can pop everything up to some t1 cruisers including most of the industrials.

Someone's got some confidence issues. Seriously, if you're going to smartbomb gates, grow a thicker skin because you'll get a lot worse than that from all the passers-by. And if you use language like that in-game one time too often, obfuscated or no, it's a temporary vacation from EVE for you.

To add to my previous info, you can get some freinds to help you by using remote reps and cap transfers on you, that way you can run the smarties continiously if you have that many freinds and tank the gate. Fit 3x Trimarks and fill your lows with armor plates. Make it take longer to chew through your armour. that or fit 3x CCC, all cap charger II in med and the cap charger flux things in your lows.

Most of whats needed to be said has been said, but as you're starting off the tactical overlay helps a load with timing of incoming victims.

Now I have not done this...nor am I pot-kettle name calling
But I have sat my ship in front of a friends smart bombs and let him set off what looked like a nuke right in my face. Very little damage taken....
So I turned off my resists.... same thing....
Now granted his SP in SB probably were not great. But I cant see this working very well. There is a reason why CCP put interdiction spheres in the game. Players say "oh **** I bubble on a gate!" Not "holy **** I smart bomb fleet!"

1)SP in smartbombs relate to ROF not damage 2)Ive got over 1800 kill in a smartbomber. 3)They are talking about low sec not 0.0 hence no interdiction spheres 4)They are also talking about killing frigates and below.
To the guy earlier who said you can kill t1 cruisers.. you cant (baring prior damage)

1. fit four em smartbombs. 2. fit four expolsive smartbombs. 3. anchor small catch bubble far from gate in random 0.0 spot. 4. ????? 5. Make billions. ------- CEO of Maids. No I didn't pick the name. I've grown rather fond of it though.
