Well, the reason I ask is because I think about all the traders/miners just making tons of profit in empire space, sometimes more then me on some days, maybe every day I dont know.
But consider the risk factor/profit.
I go system to system, with a -10 security rating, restricted to .4 and lower space, looking for battleships to kill. Well most of the time, you blow em up, 50% of their loot is destroyed and mostly its crap. Sure in a blue moon you might get a Ransom for 40 mill. But shouldnt there be something added by a third person npc pirate? Something to make this worthwhile?
I just think that the profit should be more considering the risk I take to kill things. I risk my items, my ship, my clone, my implants just to blow up a battleship that will only have 5 mill worth in loot?
I never know when some1 is going to set a ambush.
This business in my opinion is the most riskfull business in the game and I just think the profit rate should be alittle bit higher.
Ideas may be like, "positive standing bounties on everyone with high security status" These bounties rewards will come from NPC pirates...
Another thing is well, I dont want to npc pirate hunt, cause im a pirate. I want to kill cops? But cops isnt profitable, theres no bounty on them, you cant GET to them, and they drop crapy loot and the battleships dont drop anything...
Pirating profit rate is too low, I know, ive been pirating for over a year now, pirating needs to be more profitable and balanced.
Dev response please. ---

Edited by: Tank CEO on 25/06/2004 21:11:50 350 mill.... prolly another 150 mill in loot if that... Thats besides the point, amount of time I spend pirating i should have over a billion. ---

About as rich as me and I'm neither a pirate or a miner.
We've had this argument lots of times, Tank, and nothing has changed. Perhaps Shiva will change things....(that's the answer to everything, I think).

That doesn't even apply in real life. The vast majority of crimes centered around monetary gains in real life (excluding robberies by idiots) are never solved. Hell, most murders aren't solved.

Whoever said pirating should be profitable? Possible yes, you gain reputation from it and get lots of excitement I gather, why then should the income be equal that of the miner who drones on doing a by comparison very mundane task?
Like with most other artists I guess it's more about what endorsements you get than what you put out. Less wholesale fragging and more smart marketing.

I've found pirating to be quite profitable. Not quite as profitable as mining all day, but if I did that I would kill myself. You just have to find a place where people are likely to bring minerals through. Or find an area that is full of rich alliance people who don't have many skillpoints. There are a whole lot of people out there flying around in battleships with valuable stuff that only have 2-5 million skillpoints and almost no PvP experience.

I think they should do away with half your modules going poof when you get blown up. If someone kills me, they earned em.

I may be a relative n00b, but.....
I'd submit your problem is in solo hunting. If you're trucking around in a massive ship (which does not mean best, like it once did) and trying to hunt similarly massive ships, you're probably burning off quite a bit of ISK in ammunition and you're only achieving one kill at a time.
The devs are trying to increase the community-archetype gameplay, and that means fleet actions. You may want to try grouping up with a few Frigate and Cruiser subordinates and hitting a system en-mass, more strategically than marauding in a BS. You'll get more money and equipment faster, and you'll need to use your heavy firepower and trusted people to make sure ISK goes where ISK is due considering your profession, but it will force you to move from your old methodology.
I keep a teddy bear in my pod with me. A teddy bear with sharp teeth, massive claws, and a pinache for eating the flesh of podded corpses. I call him "Fuzzy". |

Edited by: Psychopath on 25/06/2004 23:08:04 Pirating used to be good when the insurance policy was harsher. You could easily ransom bs for large sums of isk because most people did not have full insurance.
Now we have the situation where every bs is fully insured and you can lose your bs over and over again and still only be the insurance money down.
Why can't CCP introduce a system where by if you lose you ship you have an insurance rating hit.
This would mean that the next time you insure your ship it is more expensive because of your poor insurance rating.
You can gain insurance rating by not losing your ship over the period for example.
If this rating was very harsh say doubled cost of insurance next time. People would not want to lose their ship. It would mean that people cannot lose their ship loads of times while being careless. This would make pirating profitable again while keeping 3 month full insurance.
You may say this is harsh on constant pvpers. However there are too many people in this game who lose their bs because they are either unskilled or idiotic. This would hopefully raise the standard of bs fighting and equipment on ships to help stay alive. A Corp 1 pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails and roam the sea |

how about make the amount of loot that survives from ships depend on how badly you destroy it-- EXAMPLE: if the final blow is hundreds of extra damage (like a couple torps) then there is 50% module survival like it is now. BUT if the final blow is a small amount of extra damage (like you tap the ship at 1% hull with a frigate gun/smalldrone to destroy it) then you get 100% of the mods to survive the explosion.
a 'gentle' shipkill making less disasterous explosion and more mods survive, would let pirate players come up with their own skill/techniques to ensure more loot.

You could make it dependant of whether a pilot decides to eject his escape pod or go down with the ship, this autokill would result in far less modules surviving whereas the regular destruction with the pod results in more modules surviving intact.
Still I don't see how this would benefit the economy.

Edited by: Dallenn on 26/06/2004 01:18:15 Piracy seems like a nice career path currently, as you will bump to professionals everywhere.
Bonuses from pirate faction standing sound good, would go well with dynamic pvp standing system.
Concord and empires could send patrols into deep space, to kill pirates and anybody with bad standings :-)
There could be special weapons/ammunition with lower chance of destroying the modules with the killed ship.
Why not add RP support and events for pirates too?

So far only pirates have agreed to making it more profitable, but ask yourself this:
If everyone could make loads of money by pirating and just blowing people up, who would be still mining and making ships? Keep the game the way it is, so that only good PvP'ers can make a decent ammount of money.
Dude you made 1bil in all that time, which is a fair ammount of money for most of us. And you havent even checked trading routes, mineral trade point like snigerdly guy said. If you do that, and you spend some time in finding out ppl's favorite routes (and if finally the number of jumps in the map got fixed) You could make more. - - -

It is up to you to make money with piracy. When I meet pirates they pod me no question asked.
You need better relations with your "customers", like let them leave after giving 50% of the cargo, then you would start making real money. Because people would go more in dangerous places because the loss would be lower. You have scanners use them. Let the poor go and make deals with the rich. Probably less fun than blowing every ship around but more profit if it is what you are looking for.
If you were doing that you would force alliances to go after you on the other hand... Because pirates are guarding alliances territory better than these can do it.
Who is going to risk 100M in implants+ a clone+a ship with mods+a cargo? No, but if it is only half the cargo then there is still a profit or not a big loss.
Yes, there are "some" players who take the risk but not that much. And those who are courageous finish podded anyway.
For example, tomorrow I want to start a business to bring missiles and ammos in Syndicate for sell. At the gate in what happens? I am podded and my ship destroyed.
If we make a deal with pirate I can give away part of the stuff I carry or the isk for it then the pirate gets stuff and I make profit. And I still have my ship so I can go in empire get more ammos and missiles. If I am podded end of the story.
So if you want more money as a pirate don't make your "customers" die make them pay.

Lol, and how do you make them pay? Say, PAY ME NOW, lol. Please, allthough I appreciate your effort to give me ideas on how to pirate,(especially from people who are not pirates, no offense) but I dont need them, cause I already know how to pirate, I reveiwed pirating for over a year, I am here now saying that pirating is not as profitable as it should be considering the risk/profit factor.

Maybe not you personnaly because I know you do your stuff in empire but most pirates are working for free as security guards for alliances and wonder where is the money.
I think pirates generally would collect more isks by letting the alliances do the job of closing 0.0 themselves because then you could attack where it hurts but that's just me what do I know anyway.
