Thousands of people pass systems like Jita every hour, maybe more than an advertising panel somewhere along the street of a small town. More people than visitors of certain websites, which receive solid money for advertisment banners.
So why isn't there any advertisment in game, such as McDonald's logo on a Jita billboard or a coca-cola emblem on a station or a ship ? Ads shouldn't be everywhere, but here and there a rl add might be funny and generate extra cash for CCP ? _________ My e-peen |

I prefer to keep my delusions about spaceships seperate from my delusions about the desirability of fast food and soft drinks.
also, they wouldn't be funny, they'd be annoying, is my opinion.

Well, immersion isn't really an issue yet and putting these in would make me notice them as much as any advert on the billboards.
Would bring more revenue and the "advertisers" would think they're getting good pr.

The only reasonable thing from RL that I'd accept to be displayed on the billboards is some Sci-Fi p.r.0.n, but then you'd have lots of ships piled up in front of them... That could be great for pirates, now that I think of it. ----

They used to... that's why they added sentry guns to the billboards... Eve used to be a lot cooler in the beggining (or so I'm told.) ----

you can't just casually add ads, they grow, like an evil MMO cancer
plus, the last two MMOs that I remember playing that have ads in them were Planetside and Hellgate: London, both of which are on the epic fail train __________

I wouldn't support RealLife advertising in the game - talk about destroying the game's immersion! - but allowing corporations or individuals to promote themselves via billboards would be pretty cool.

In-game advertisements are nothing new, EA has been doing it for the last couple of years with games like Battlefield 2142, Burnout Paradise, and their multitude of sports games. The result is that game prices haven't changed, the company makes more money off each game because of the advertisements, and there's zero benefit to the players other than being pulled out of the experience by a real life ad every few seconds.
Would rather have more fluid and interesting advertisement schemes from in-game manufacturers, both NPC and players.

Oh I like this idea -
Can I suggest that with the increased revenue stream CCP might be able to either reduce the cost to us or re-enable ghost training.
The ads would also need to be in stations as many Jita accounts that never undock and the random ghost training that hardly ever logs in... Oh wait, there are no more ghost trainers.

You're not the first person to raise this subject. If, however, CCP were to listen to you and implent the horrible thing - well, it'll probably be the last thing you ever raise.

Edited by: Marie Duvolle on 15/10/2008 13:38:01 HUGE floating billboards, much larger than the ones we have now would actually look kinda cool/gritty/futuristic. As long as it's inline with the game and specifically tailored to EVE I don't see a problem.
More options with ambulations even, what's stopping them from selling advertisement space in a bar for instance?

Great, just what everyone wants. More :shobon: content without fixing simple bugs that have plagued the game for years.

The only reasonable RL advertisement whould be if CCP licenced the "Quafe" brand to a beverage company and they want to advertise it ingame.
Pretty much other than that will break the immersion. An important part of the game is RP (jeez!, I've just imagined Jamyl's coronation video full of Coca-Cola and McDonald's ads!... man!, that would be disgusting ) ----
