Real-life ads have no place in EVE - thousands of years in the future, far away from earth, totally different culture(s).
Ads of in-game corps/alliance - entirely different thing. As long as they are not pop-ups I would be fine with them.
On a side note: I stoped watching TV because of ads, no doubt there are many people here who did the same. It would be a shame if a great world that is EVE was polluted by that crap.

I love how McDonalds was the chosen example, hey, maybe if one company could survive 30,000 years across a wormhole cut off from HQ - surely McDonalds would be a candidate?!?! Creating some huge giant meat spewing robot with space faring capabilities and a brain washing tool.

Great idea. When I want to relax from my RL duties and enjoy a short time in a universe far away I really want to see ads from McDonald's on Republic Fleet's stations. Or even better, get a pop up every minute with a nice offer from Coca Cola.
How about "no". Or to be less polite: No ****ing way.
I don't really want to pay to watch ads. That would really kill the game for me. Worst idea I've heard so far on this forum and considering I've been playing since june 2003 that's kind of an accomplishment. Well done Ykaia. Now, please crawl back under your stone and never come back.

Have you checked recently if your brain is still in its place? Ads in games are a horrible idea, I avoid games with advertising ingame at all cost, should EVE ever come this far I'll gladly cancel my sub. I've got enough advertising that wastes precious minutes of my life every ****ing day out of game.

But producing and marketing quafe, maybe win.
Filling in game billboards with cheesy bachelor food parodies, win.
Increasing the size of the bilboards by a whole lot and letting corps advertise on them in one of the largest isk sinks ever, super win.

Did you actually give any thought to this idea?
1) In-0game advertising has been played with in a few games, has rarely worked ad there's no real metric to measure any ind of business generated by such things. it's more of a novelty than anythign else - ask those companies that tried.
2) MASSIVE IMMERSION BREAKAGE - EvE is supposed to have been ISPLATED from Earth and has gone through at least one dark age - Earth 21st century companies don't even EXIST in the EvE universe.
3) Annoyance factor - You ever read the "billboards" that are alongside each gate? No? Didn't think so.
4) Bandwidth factor - Updating billboards and/or other in-game advertising would add quite a large amount of bandwidth costs fore the image downloads - the flashier the image, the more data to download - you think Jita lag is bad now? Think about it with multiple boards, or a constantly-0changing one in place. For those who said Jita lag is fixed - was there last week when 5 members of two corps at war decided toget into it - with drones yet. HELLO LAG.
Overall, a resoundingly bad idea - you should be taken out and beate3n with rubber hoses just for thinking of it.

get enuff muppets in RL wanting adverts, not watch much TV due to adverts and poor signals, thought the idea of EVE was a new beginning centuries and light years away from earth
if CCP introduces RL adverts, will be the time to seriously consider if I want to play the game any more as adverts suck
great to see adverts for Quafe as it is an in game item, next the OP will be wanting to have the in game currency taxed for RL cash ?
CCP gets enough cash from the macro miner players to not need extra

Mabe you're young so I'll explain to you what advertising is:It's an attempt by companies to hoodwink you into buying shit that you don't need for far more money than it's worth.
The day when people think that adverts are a normal part of the scenery is one that I dread. Sadly that day is getting closer and your post only confirms that.

If they're ads for products that exist in New Eden in the distant future, that's fine. Ads for things that exist on modern day Earth? Hell no. CCP seem to actually care about immersion and setting, so this'd never happen.
I'm ok with ads in games set in modern or near-future settings. They actually help immersion. But considering that civilization collapsed after the EVE gate closed, none of our modern day corporations would exist. Thus, having a McDonald's "I'm lovin' it!" ad in Eve would be about as immersion-breaking as an elf wizard or a pink space-unicorn.
In short, this thread is fail.

Billboards used to have unlimited cap also... so you could NOS them and run a beefy tank without cap-boosters in low-sec fights.
