NO! i hate ads, tv/radio is full of ads, web is full of ads, streets, newspapers, mail - everyone is advertising some c**p you don't need. So no ads in EVE, please.

I'd quit even if advertising made the game free to play. Also its funny that the OP's corp is named after a company that is synonymous with corporate greed.

it would ruin the game to have RL products in a future space ship world.
If CCP does start to sell billboard space for Mac.D or Cola or whatever. . .then we know things are heading in a bad direction. ----

Why hasn't this obvious flamebait been locked yet? The mods lock threads for less and ban posters for opposing these achtards.

I have to guess that the OP works in marketing and therefore sees every single thing, small or large, beautiful or ugly, as a place to put an advert.
Marketing s****are making the whole world ugly, please not in Eve, please.

As that would make a nice little wda-comic if there isn't one already on RL-advertising in Eve

Originally by: Yakia TovilToba Thousands of people pass systems like Jita every hour, maybe more than an advertising panel somewhere along the street of a small town. More people than visitors of certain websites, which receive solid money for advertisment banners.
So why isn't there any advertisment in game, such as McDonald's logo on a Jita billboard or a coca-cola emblem on a station or a ship ? Ads shouldn't be everywhere, but here and there a rl add might be funny and generate extra cash for CCP ?
Because it's one of the handful of stupid steps CCP could take to drive me away from the game. It's intrusive. I can avoid advertising on TV by not watching it. I can avoid adverts in EVE by not playing it. Simple really.

Edited by: Liranan on 16/10/2008 12:10:25 OP should shove his head in an over, let the gas run for 10 minutes then light a fire. Failing that a ban for his corp being named after one of the worlds most disgustingly corrupt and criminal thieforations in the world.
You want ads? Go buy yourself a huge billboard and put it in your garden so you don't have to miss out on your dose of ads.
I do think the idea of individual corps advertising as a good idea, with a weekly rotation. This could bring CCP extra revenue as this would be charged in Euro's and not ISK. It'd be great seeing ads all over EVE advertising Goons, BoB, RZR, MM and other entities. Farjung is my God

I see enough ads, there are too many out there as it is.. i dont want to see a game that i pay for every month turn in to another huge ad.
If you want ads in your games, there are plenty out there for ya. --------------------------

Imagine this:
You're happily ratting in nullsec, and a hostile fleet jumps into the system. You realise you have no cloak, so you decide to make a run for the gate. You land on the gate, and there's the enemy fleet.. waiting for you. You quickly spam the jumpbutton, and get the following message.
"Jumping will proceed after this ad. *3 minute ad*"
Yes, I would ragequit. |

Ads -> more money to CCP -> CCP buys better computers -> less lag or -> CCP hires more devs -> devs create more content -> more features per update
Or,
people get ****ed at the adverts breaking their immerssion in the game, or at unsuitable and rubbish ads being displayed and unsubscribe. Lots of people fai lto renew their subscriptions, revenue goes down from subs, ad placing companies notice the drop in playerbase and pay less for advertising... game sinks in to low priority for CCP, lack of new content, cut back on no. of development staff, all of which feeds back to reduce no. of players which in turns make s things worse, until CCP decide to pull the plug on it....
no thanks.
+1 for allowing corps and alliances to advertise on the screens tho' ... that and Empire specific 'call to arms' posters... D.

Why would you want it?
I mean seriously why?
Not to mention that its thousands of years in the future, so why would that stuff even exist or be advertised....
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts.

Immersion is not a reason to say no to this, watch local for a moment, immersion is gone.
Unless the introduce a forced RP, immersion will remain on screen and gone.
This would create more revenue, and only about 5% would even notice billboard adds for coke-cola or some such, until someone pointed them out.
My opinions represent the opinions of my corporation completely. I'm the CEO damnit. |

Nothing would make me quit faster than advertising inside a game I AM PAYING FOR.
The client pop ups "that appear only once" (yet seem to return the next week) are bad enough.
Now, if you could buy ads for IN GAME stuff on the concord billboards, that would be something else. And would make the billboards actually serve a purpose.
My opinions are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my corp or alliance. |
