Yes. Going on past experience it'll be completely useless for the task it's supposed to perform.

Im hoping its gonna be a small Freighter with Mod slots, enough space to perhaps hold 120k m3 (contract max). I would be a real asset to my couriering, but no matter what it is im sure the industrial community would great welcome a new ship.
Not just in terms of 'hey we have a new ship to fly' but also the manufacturing side, im sure the demand will be high initially and the price will be high for them also. It'll also give newer players who are perhaps skilling for a freighter (if indeed this is what it'll be used for) something in the middle range to go for. Perhaps new modules to grace this new ship as well?
Who knows, all I know is that I for one am looking forward to this new expansion.
The medal system sounds cool to, although one of my corp members asked if he could have a medal for 'just being sexy'!
Fly safe all o/

He is refering to the intended use of a rorqual and its actual use. A rorqual was meant to sit in belt with its miners, tractoring the contis, providing safety with capital shield transporters and sieging to compress the ore for better transportation and mining sessions far off the homesystems. But fact is that almost noone uses the rorqual like this, it instead sits at a pos just giving mining bonuses and compressing ore there. IF used for mining at all, because it's also widely used as a replacement for the old freighter-carrier.
And I still think that siege cycle time should be reduced to 2 mins btw..^^

Yes, I trained for a Rorqual for its intended use. It was a huge waste of ISK.

If I remember correctly it has hardponts for alpha flak or beta flak cannons and this would be interesting to see in eve... ceptor mincer hauler :P Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

I don't care how well it does it's purpose, just as long as it still does the "mega-maid" transformation.

Hmm so we have Transport ships, 30+K, Jump freighters 300+K, Freighters dunno how much they carry... a lot i guess, The capital mining ship, whatever the hell it's called. Sorry i'm not indi type person
What else do we need? I'm trying to imagine what they're giving us next. Mobile research and manufacture perhaps? Full size jump freighter that can carry packaged AND assembled ships? Or just another of what we already have?

Fixed it for you.

hehe, sorry. I just wanted to do this "Fixed it" quote crap forever.
But yes, features of Orca is still quite a secret and while I am not an industrialist at all, as a CEO I find it rather exciting what this ship can do for event planning.

To be honest I'm also very curious to what they came up with...
I mean there's already 3 types of capital ships that can transport stuff, what gap do they want this new Orca to fill up?
Or maybe it tanks like a Dread and comes with "roll up and tank all" mode? At least "Orca" sounds like it shouldn't be defenseless, right? ________________________________ All your honey are belong to us! |

you browse 4chan too much.
Also, freighters were never going to go over 1000k because they'd be able to move capitalships at one point so ccp painstakenly steered clear of that figure.
being able to fly the rorq, and owning one, but never undocked it(long story)
I wouldnt mind the orca to have a myrad of ranged strip miners(more than 4 PLEASE). I would litterally like to see a laser light show in hi-sec astroidbelts by something alot bigger than a hulk but smaller then a freighter and for the cost, benifit/cost not worth over a hulk.
just like if you reproccessed a raven and built caracals out of it. that ammount of caracals with the sameskill/gear would annihilate the raven.
thats what i mean by not cost effective. Just use less pilots to do the same thing.
I totally agree on the a 2 minute cycle on the indy core, good idea.
I also remember there being prototypes of fighter sized mining drones for the rorq back before it's model was added in to the test server. you could show info on it and it had the place holder picture for both the rorq and its minerfighters.
but the minerfighters never made it into sisi and thus never into tq and not alot of people remember that. Bring the minerfighers in..

But then we all know how the macros will abuse it. For those of us who actually bother to do the hard work we get outdone by Hulks that dock and undock all day unhindered. Sure its an awesome idea, but itll also give macros a bigger tool to use 23/7

IMO we need a slight nerf to all barges (except skiff). Before you all cry me a river. Orca then kills the gap with some sort of boost to efficiency of use and mining amount. The key to this would be, make it complex to fly and make it have to be actively piloted to give any benefit. Farmers are a reality in Eve however, making it a bit less profitable to farm and a bit more profitable to actively mine would allow players to combat farming where it hurts. In the total yield. sXe |

Yes, we all need to get our expectations UP, far beyond any sense of reality so that we will be utterly disappointed with what we'll get and can properly flame CCP for failing yet again at fulfilling speculation and hysteria inflated expectations.

Right, because farmers with a couple of dozen accounts and billions of ISK have much more troubles buying a character and ship capable of boosting mining operations than your average Joe Miner.

When I said 'complex to fly' I ment complex to use in terms of how you actually use it, not in terms of pure SP. Complex such that a macro cannot successfully operate one. Actual live rang-rang farmers can't be so easily stopped but that's for another thread. sXe |

Is there even a niche that needs to be filled with the Orca? It didn't sound like (in the press release) that it was going to be a small ship to fill any gaps between haulers and freighters... ---

I could be wrong but i saw on another thread that the Orca is going to be a hisec Rorq, and like that, it wont be ble to use mining lasers, relying rather in the use of (less efficient that the Rorq's) mining gang modules. Also, i dont remember seeing anything about ore compression, more like a really big hold to drop ore in. I wouldnt get my hopes high, but who knows?
