Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 29/06/2004 17:10:33 Go to www.google.com and in the search input box type:
site:myeve.eve-online.com followed by the word/phrase you are looking for.
An example would be:
site:myeve.eve-online.com m0o passari
That search would give you the following results: Clicky
It's not perfect or comprehensive but it's the only alternative while Eve-Marketplace.com is down.

This one deserves a sticky!
Though i'm wondering why your example only shows 7 results. There surely must be more matches, way more. Maybe google only displays recent indexed threads (can't seem to find an option for timeframe in google options)?

When you have the browser open for a long time your session will time out and you'll have to login again. The login is done everytime you load one of the insider or forum pages, provided you have cookies enabled and you do not login manually everytime you visit the page. It's annoying but it keeps this place safe

On a related note, anyone who has the google toolbar can choose to search "Current Site." That way you don't even have to leave the forums.

Firefox (and Mozilla?) users can add an EVE-forum search plug-in to their browser here.
(I don't guarantee that it will work 100%. It's my first search plug-in. ) |

Works great for me. Top job!
Still, very annoyed that this forum doesn't have a search function. A forum without a search function is unheard of and leads to multiple posts on the same subject, filling the DB *way* more than is necessary.
I wonder why it hasn't been fixed. -- Security Director, Draconis Industries. |

I'm still totally at a loss to explain why it's taken this long for the official forums to get their own search function. Google sells search servers for a fairly reasonable amount, with the equipment costs CCP has I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a kick to the budget to add one in.

I remember on June 14th 2003, my first day on eve, and I asked that same question.
We're playing a futuristic space sim that has a forum from the stone age. Hey at least we have smileys though.

When the Googlebot drops by on your site, it only indexes a couple of pages before it goes off to another website. It does this in order to prevent that a crawler, requesting pages (that the web- and databaseserver have to create dynamically) at an insane high speed, overloads the website it is trying to index.
For the inhouse search function: Snitz Forums 2000 (which is the forumsoftware that is used if I'm not mistaken) does support a search function. It's possible however, that this kind of 'simple' search function hogs up too much resources when used on such a busy site. We (no intention to spam) at the dutch techforum Gathering of Tweakers (+100000 users, +13600000 messages) had a similar problem. The built-in searchengine in the forumsoftware (React) didn't perform good enough. The developers of React and the Tweakers.net serveradmins found a solution: the Xapian (Omega as frontend to search a Xapian database) searchengine. Maybe the someDudeThatDevsTheForums can take a look at it.

From extensive research on my calculator while daydreaming at work, i figured out at ú10 average from 10k players CCP gets 100k per month, 1.2mil per year, 2.4mil per 2 years etc, so no it wouldnt be a dent, they wouldnbt notice. |
