Hi, sorry if this is well known - I am very new to the crime scene. I just got scammed with my bank corp for 90 mil - not a lot but anyway. The character was an alt, but he also revealed another of his characters to me - this one seems more genuine. In order to get some amount of revenge, I just added an amount to the bounty on this guy. Now I am thinking that he will just cash in the bounty himself and live happily on. I am not sure under what circumstances a bounty is an efficient tool - could someone please enlighten me. For instance, I can only presume that this character has valuable implants, but cant be sure.

Bounties are well worth the money, I would in fact put more isk onto him, that'll really **** him off.

yeah **** him of that much he will use a alt to pod himself and claim the isk himself .
To OP bountie system sucks and putting bounties on someone is a waste imo.

Aaaah - another thing that puzzles me about this alt is that on his blog he says that this is his "wardeccing" alt and he is working on lowering the character's security status. Lowering? Why would you want that? Again, I am presuming that since he is using this character for corp war declarations it must have some value to him - is that reasonable?

Thanks for the replies sofar - now I am confused on a higher level lol. Well, if you can just pod yourself, why dont the pilots that have 1 billion isk bounties on them just do it all the time? Because they have 1.5 billion isk implants?

Dark matter engage! please... This is either a troll or a moron. Hard to decide.
Why would I not care about 1 bil isk? wonder wonder... . Maybe because I have plenty of isk, so that 1 bil just is not important enough for me to pod myself. . Maybe I am a proud pirate an the bil isk on my head shows how good I am (or that I do not leave station ever)
Now can I have your stuff ? Contract your items and isk to my at anytime.

I am not a troll, so must be a moron. As I said clearly this whole bounty business is completely new to me. My question still is: if my target can just collect the bounty himself, by podding himself, as was also suggested by another poster above, then are all the people that do put out bounties of billions of isk all complete morons?

Either that, or they put the bounty on themselves to encourage others to fight with them.

Bounties are just a badge of honor. Heck the more wanted criminals even offer amnesty to people who are willing to add to their bounty.
If they ever feel down on their luck they get into a jump clone and pod themselves with the help of someone else and cash in.

I'll never pod myself to get my bounty, stands at 107mil at the mo and my implants are worth say 20-25 mil. Even if it went to a billion i wouldnt do it
Its a badge of honor, and mines 100% real too, not put on by myself or friends ( at least not to my knowledge xD) all from guys ive annoyed or whatever. So if someone manages to pod me, the isk will go to the guy who does, and is the point of it, its your way to thank the guy who kills me. Which hopoefully wont be soon as im soooo close the most wanted list, WHO DO I NEED TO KILL?? xD
Is it worth it? maybe, i get bugged all the time ("HI WANT ME TO POD YOU AND WE CAN SPLIT THE ISK????") and whenever i disconnect in space i always get really worried that someone probing out my pod as i frantically try to log in. If the bounty is high, the more likely that the guy wont be podding himself for it. If its a scammer, then the guys prolly just in it for the isk, and will prolly pod himself once his bounty goes over the price of his implants.

Bounties are a waste of money, you already lost cash to him and now you willingly give him some more. Either to prance around in going "look at my bounty!!!" or to have it shot off by a corpmate/alt.

Bounties are the way for pirates to know that they are doing something right in life. Imho there is nothing better than logging in and seeing that little bounty value go up just a little bit, it kind of lets you kno you ****ed someone off and did your duty as a mean old piwate I just lost my bount a few nights ago. and actually didnt realize it until i started to reply on this thread oh well.. i guess i'll just have to go **** a few more ppl off..
so what area do u stay in op? can i come **** you off for a small bounty?

The Bounty system as it stands sucks ... don't even bother. Its nothing more than an e-peen thing in its current form.
If they don't care about e-peen ... The person who has a high bounty can get a buddy to pod-kill them to collect your hard earned isk.
MOST people worth putting a bounty on have half a brain and know how to avoid getting pod killed.
The reason some people don't try to cash in their bounty is:
1. The bounty is too small for the hassle 2. They have implants that make the collection too small for the hassle 3. Their clone cost makes their bounty too small to collect
Respectfully,
Political Prisoner

Yes yes yes! I hear you all, and thanks for all the answers. The consensus is clear. As I half suspected, putting out a bounty is just throwing more good isk after bad.

If you want someone dead, pay someone to kill them.
Putting a bounty on them is just giving them isk.

yes and no
To big a bounty peeps will pod themselves as discussed above.
A reasonable bounty.. say 10 mill isk, will provide some small enocuragement to peeps peeps to pod your target.
Quite often when smartboming i will let pods go through my system (no money in them). But even a small bounty will provide the impetus to warp to the gate and pop the pod.
In these cases, whomever put the bounty on that person got their moneys worth.

It's a personal opinion. For many, the answer is a 'yes.' For others, it'll be a 'no.' Some of the bounties on folks out there are in the billions and for the average pilot in EVE, that's enough money to justify bounty hunting.

i'd say a bounty in eve is senseless, if it's high enough to kill yourself with an alt. as long as it is not, it's worth it for example as a sign of the carebears revenge or sumthin. so they can say, i painted him. i rescued/warned the rest of the world from this bastard... and so on.
