Originally by: CCP Wrangler We guarantee that your account will remain for 6 months after you cancel it. However, we have not deleted any accounts since EVE opened over 5 years ago and if we would ever start, which I doubt, we'd announce it in advance.
So, you going to announce it like 3 days before you do it again? I mean, "Ghost Training" was a touted feature up until last week, so how are we ever supposed to believe anything you guys say anymore?

They're as likely to allow recycling of character names as they do alliance names.

I like the policy in general but I wish CCP would make an exception for the trial accounts with characters that never pass the 14 day trial.
I trial accounts which never go on to become paid accounts should be deleted (and their characters) after 1 year, cos there are some really good names that are tied up on old chars nobody will ever use.

The account information itself is probably fairly small, but you'd also have to include everything related to the account. A suicide alt takes much less space than a longtime character with dozens of fitted ships and assets on hundreds of stations.
Also, CCP's DBAs probably use indexing heavily, so database performance doesn't decrease at the same rate as the size of the database increases.

the ghost trainin has good and bad ideas etc good idea all the lazy gits that ghost train whille at home isnt on but people that have buisiness trips can have something to bring them back bad idea is that this is based on me but my account went inactive because i couldnt get gtc in time then i couldnt post on forums to ask for one so i had to bother 2 friends make an alt to get in touch with em then after 4-5 days i manged to get one the point is if this happens to a few people there account will stop training for the lenght of time it takes to get GTC allso i would like it if CCP wouldnt let inactive accounts be able to post in the timecode bazzar only in there for a few days to ask for a gtc and bump it |

I'm no database expert, but isn't it possible to put inactive accounts in a separate file when they become inactive, so that they don't take up database space or search time in the active files?
On the subject of names; it might be a good idea to change the name of a character on an account inactive for perhaps 1 year to something generic; XYZ Citizen nnnn, for example. Thus releasing all the really cool names that are no longer available for use because they belong to pod pilots in suspended animation (to RP a bit).
