In theory that's fantastic, I used to love that game.
Sadly, it's EA who are doing it.

On the plus side:
*The studio responsible for making the game is Starbreeze (best known for "Chronicles of Rid****: Escape from Butcher Bay" and "The Darkness"
On the negative side:
*The guys funding and eventually publishing it are, as we already know, Electronic Arts.
Overall: As long as EA allows Starbreeze the time and money to develop the game properly it will probably be good. Syndicate and Syndicate Wars were two of Bullfrogs best titles (along with Populous and Dungeon Keeper) and, frankly, two of the best titles of the 90s. If EA manages to screw this up they will in the future (in my mind) rank as low as SOE (a developer whose titles I will not even touch with a 10 foot pole). ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. I remember that game, it was grand.
However; EA are the publishers. And just look at how badly they messed up Spore. And did you notice how the game's been out a month and there's ALREADY an expansion pack for it? ****... - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

I remember the original Syndicate very fondly. One of the few games in my life I've ever finished.
In fact, from here I can see the expansion box called "American Revolt - Syndicate Data Disk" sitting up on top of my cupboard.
... along with Day Of The Tentacle, Civ I & Star Wars Rebel Assault. LOL I should get that old box down, those are just the ones I can see on top. Fond memories of a lifetime's gaming.

If you guys haven't heard of "Starbreeze" and are assuming the Rid**** game was Yet Another Terrible Movie Tie in it was actually a really good game with some very solid design and execution.
This really does bode well.

Friend of mine had an original disk, i got a working copy from it and have enjoyed the luxury of playing the non-ruined version (DK1 Gold) for many hours. God-damn DK2 was a let down.

man?!?
yeah, minigun was cool, I kept it as a weapon for my team as long as I could in Syndicate Wars.
Syndicate on the other hand, I had miniguns from the minute I got them, right through to the end. I liked the racket they made when you fired them. Especially when there was a whole pile of enemies.

Brilliant.
The man himself the week before was talking about wanting to see it happen (and has done in the past)
What a difference a week makes, ea sock the oldskool for six by anouncing all new syndicate.
As much as it'll appeal to the older types, i think mean looking cyber dudes in long trench coats packing mini guns and flame throwers will appeal to just about everybody
That said im no fan of ea's current thing they have going with the drm, hopefully by the time the games ready for turning out it'll be a thing of the past.... here's hoping.
hard to diss EA, they give some wonderfull stuff... NHL 09 is my game of the year... but wanting to purchase mass effect on the pc and not doing so because of the mass of crap surrounding it is disapointing to say the least
One i want for the pc this time around, anyone who remembers sw on the ps1 will still be having nightmares about playing with the mouse in one hand and the controller in the other.... just about the hardest most whacked out control system ever

An MMO version of Syndicate would be absolutely, totally, completely awesome. You could start as a henchman and fight, embezzle and work your way up to having the resources to be a controller (the guy in the zeppelin) and from there to lead a Syndicate proper. All the time you are given hands-on experience and plenty of time to blow other people up. There would be room for assassins, diplomats, gun-runners, rogue scientists, simple henchmen, the whole nine yards. Syndicate's IP would lend itself really well to a city-based interpretation of Warhammer Online's public and RvR questing system too. You could populate the city with NPC's that you can use the Persuadertron on. Could be all shades of awesome from start to finish.
And tbh Warhammer Online is something I will hold up as an example of how EA can indeed still publish a good game. Yes there were hickups, but damn I am having fun playing my dwarf with a gun.

It does sound like Eve would be if we could use ambulation to stick a pitchfork in the eye of the enemy FC. :p
I played only the first syndicate, a long time ago, and it was great fun. I'd have my four cyborgs armed with miniguns, and mow down any opposition under a hail of bullets. It's good news if EA does a sequel. ------------------------------------------

Edited by: P''uck on 20/10/2008 16:09:45 Should I feel old, that I have a PC that has MS-DOS 6.22 installed? (Sadly enough I can't get the soundblaster to work with the syndicate series, and yes, I actually know how it should work.)
But Syndicate (wars) was always one of those games I really suck at, and I can't put my finger on why it is that way. I mean, it's a game I totally love, it has everything I like, especially the Blade Runner-touch.
Too bad it's gonna be published by EA, which basically means, even if it were to be good (which I highly doubt) I wouldn't throw a single dime down their throats. Chances are, anyway, you will be able to speed up research by microtransactions.
EA badly needs to publish properly for a long period of time before they have restored their image and gained the right to earn money again. It's nice to see I'm not the only one to understand that. And I sure hope I'm not the only one that practices what he preaches.

$100 It's a flop.
EA will hype it up, release it. People will buy it, it will suck. EA will have gotten their money and not care. Will abandon it and never look back.
EA is a HORRIBLE company. I don't understand why people still buy their games. Only reason I bought WAR was because I didn't realize it was EA. Got bored in the first couple of days anyways. Good thing too, I don't want to get addicted to it and have to shell out $30-$40 every 3 months for the craptastic Expansion packs that should have been in the original anyways. __________________________________________________________

Last time I bought a video game by ubisoft (when they still used starforce and where NOT admitting it's utter crap) I went back to the store and told em, I don't wanna support UBI and I'm truly sorry, yadda yadda blabla.
The guy was ready to refund me in full (I just picked another game)

WOW lovely memories thanks reminding me of that awesome game man i played it for hours and hours. There where the times when games were truly fun, I'm guessing that is because at that time graphics and sound were not so good so developers had to really work hard on game content and playability. Now most games are just a lot of eye candy with little content and playability.I don't think EA will do a good job with the remake of syndicate

[misty, rose tinted glasses] Ah Syndicate, I remember playing the first Syndicate before Syndicate Wars; both were excellent games.
Favourite toy from Syndicate was the Flamethrower; I never got around to getting the data disk with Airstrikes.
Favourite Syndicate Wars toy was the area effect weapons (launcher particularly), though the trusty Uzi/Minigun were good with Cybernetic upgrades; especially when there were too many civvies around.
There is a good website here if you want to 'ooh & ahh' from days gone by. I hope EA doesn't murder the legacy...
Speaking of Bullfrog, they were one of the best software houses at the time. Does anybody recall Magic Carpet? Broke my mouse button playing it. Mmmm mana... I want your mana.

Ah Syndicate and Dungeon Keeper. Two of the best games ever made. I hope we get a remake of DK too. I played the first on my Amiga and the Second on my first PC. And DK II was even better. I don't remember that much of Syndicate Wars though.
AS for making a MMO out of it now that would be really awesome.
