Hi all.
A new update to the Mac client has been deployed. Here are the patch notes: http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/patchnotes.asp
Did it resolve any issues? Did it create any new issues? Are you seeing better or worse performance? Did you not get any option to patch? Was it all awesome? Please reply and let us know.
Thanks

When I launched the client and logged in (after the patching) - I get a firewall application access to "wineserver" pop up.
I have a custom rule set up on my security, and I'm not sure if this is part of the eve client or not.
Any advice ?

Wineserver is a part of the wrapper and should be okay to allow.

Thanks CCP , and also Casqade. So far everything seems to running well. I have run a few missions in multiple solar systems and i haven't had the blurred text instead of the dust clouds, so thanks very much!

Edited by: Erakyn on 21/10/2008 14:45:33 Thanks Casquade, but unfortunately this latest patch reintroduced the problem of the Station interior graphics rendering for me that was previously fixed with October 8th patch.
I am running a 2007 MacBook Pro (2.33 Core 2 Duo, ATI Radeon X1600 (256MB)). OSX 10.5.5.

Not 100% sure but I think my Framerate has dropped a bit - it is still in double figures but I used to see high 20's now it appears to be high teens. Though our corp has moved regions since the last time I actively monitored my FPS so it could be due to the number of asteroid belts (about twice as many in this new system).
This is on a 2.2 GHz Macbook Pro with an nVidia 128 MB 8600MGT running 10.5.4

I do not have that problem. But I play on a NVidia based MacBook Pro. And I have "load station environment" unchecked in the preferences. Oh, and I regularly clean my cache files. ---

Sadly, no change at all for me.
I'm running a 15" MBP 2.33 GHz with an ATI Radeon X1600, Mac OS X 10.5.5.
Got the update window right after invoking the app. After it started I'm still looking at the funky graphics when docked.

Ditto, 17" MBP w/ ATY,RadeonX1600. Glitched station graphics, flickers on ship models, and an occasional spurious line while in space. Also seems a bit more crashy.
OTOH, it seems to run fine on my son's MacBook. World Domination - It's fun for the entire family! EViE - The iPhone / iPod Touch Skill Training Monitor

Hi.
An update on the 10.5.5 related Station background problem:
The station background problem was one of the issues we wanted to have resolved with this update, but it turns out that there are other side effects to the fix for this issue which would make the client on other hardware setups break. At the same time we had fixes in this patch for other issues that we wanted to get out and that's the reason we have released it without the station fix. This does not mean that we are ignoring this serious and nasty defect, but TransGaming and CCP needs more time to resolve this specific issue.
We are sorry and hope that you will have patience while we track this defect down and resolve it.

I use an iMac, 2.4 GHz with 4GB RAM and 256mb ATI graphics (Mac OS X 10.5.4). When I start just one client, it seems to be running fine, when I start two, I experience a serious framerate drop which makes the game feel more like a slideshow. No, it was not like that before the patch...

The issue with particle and cloud effects rendering as text seems to have been fixed. Kudos!
However, there has been an odd framerate side-effect. Whenever the camera is stationary, either in station or in space, the framerate is more or less what I would expect. However, whenever I start to rotate the camera, the framerate chugs, skips, and seems to drop off very severely. Uhhh... 'sup with that business?

This has worked perfectly for me, on a mbp 2.33 with 4 gig mem and the x1600 vid system.

being loathe to blame anything on the patch so quickly but the timing was rather ugly.
I have a Mac Pro, 4GB of RAM, ATI 1900XL video card. 10.5.5
Within about 15m of logging on two clients Mac OS X started popping up that the boot disk was out of free space and it was killing applications to stay alive. problem is I have 1.1TB of free space.
I'm running diagnostics now just in case it was something else, but not having run EvE all day and then just shortly after turning it on and patching it was kinda suspect.

I am running a 2006 MacBook Pro (2Ghz Core 2 Duo, ATI Radeon X1600 (128MB)). OSX 10.5.5.
Station graphics still bugged. Frame rate dropped from mid 20's to under 20. This makes things a tad chuggy to say the least.

This workaround fixed station graphics and the map (broken again via patch) and the framerate seems to be stable (it was not, prior to the patch).
Thanks much!

Edited by: Paula Quartz on 22/10/2008 15:54:24 Unfortunately, this patch has worsened rather than improved my game experience.
I dual account on a 24", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM iMac.
Before the patch, the client would very occassionaly crash. Say, once in about 6 hours of gameplay. Restarting the client worked sometimes, but sometimes it'd crash again soon. A reboot was a sure way to 'reset my 6 hours'. I didn't really mind it. When starting a PvP OP after been on for a time, I made a habit out of rebooting first to avoid any disconnects during PvP.
After the patch, I'm experiencing much more regular crashes. Say about once every 30 minutes. I do mind it now. Usually only 1 client crashes, but both of them do at different times. It's quite bothersome now. Frankly, I expect this issue to be resolved within a reasonable amount of time, since crashing this often is a liability. I haven't done PvP OP's since the upgrade, but I'm not looking forward to it
By the way, my updating procedure is I move my second account package to thrash, update the regular account, then copy that to a new second account package. Next, I edit the config file to use an alternative preferences folder. |

No. M is what it should be.
Really? That's odd, because changing it to "N" worked fine. I'll change it to M and see if that is any different.
What does the M stand for?

I'd like to request this feature: S= "Stable"
I've tried removing the cache (as is suggested in the multi-client sticky topic), no luck. Still annoying crashes about 30 minutes in. Half of that spent restoring all my settings and overview tabs

Have you also set the cache ingame to low or none? It did greatly reduce the crashes I had here.

Maria's suggestion is sound. Also: remove the cache, but keep the settings. Makes it much easier. Even: make a copy of the settings directory. Most times if they go south you can just copy the directory back and effectively restore them.

Yes, I've got it on low. Also still have all audio settings off. Didn't improve though.
What annoys me the most is that I'm experiencing all these "please, please don't crash on me" moments now. I play this game to relax, not to add stress to life.
Anyway, I hope this issue is patched soon (preferably before the weekend), or rolled back to the pre-Tuesday version.

Edited by: Cor Aidan on 24/10/2008 08:02:53 I just logged in at 4am local to update a skill (not a normal occurrence - couldn't sleep and remembered I hadn't updated a long skill that finished). Got the patch, logged on (noticed the full screen thing, bummer) but I also noticed something else:
The premium graphics setting section now, instead of saying 'unsupported' has a nifty 'Apply' button. (I can't remember if there was anything else in this area before...I am still half asleep.)
Is this a stealth add!? Should I click 'Apply'? (I'm on the road right now with travel so don't have my external drive and TimeMachine going).
I've got a 2007 Core2Duo MBP 2.4GHz with the 8600M GT 256MB.
