That button 'popped up' with the first Linux/Mac patch, but... does do nothing (yet). I just hope its an indication of large osom-ness soonÖ to happen.

No. M is what it should be.
Really? That's odd, because changing it to "N" worked fine. I'll change it to M and see if that is any different.
What does the M stand for?
Mixed mode actually. The cider client uses GLSL which is the OpenGL Shader language to translate the DirectX type calls into things OpenGL that both MAC OSX and linux understand.

So what am I doing right? Not only have I had very few of the problems mentioned on this forum, but compared to XP/bootcamp on my machine (2.4GHZ dual, 2GB RAM, ATI 2600) my Mac client has actually seemed MORE stable. |

This patch has made my client incredibly unstable PLEASE roll it back. Nothing was fixed, station interiors are bugged, and I crash every 3-8minutes no matter what im doing.

Did you edit the config file as explained here?
Did you post a bug report with the full log file obtained according to the instructions Casqade gave us here? |

I have filed bug reports from both instances of my client. The "M" fix doesnt do anything but fix the stations graphics, not the stability.

The game is now totally unstable, 5 minutes is the most i get without a crash. RollBack FFS. Couldn't care about station graphics tbh. |

Okay, so after installing the latest patch, I open Eve to find no graphical change in stations. I followed the coding instructions posted by Casqade, and after a few restarts it worked. however, roughly 30 minutes after doing this, the client crashed to desktop. I re-opened and had the same happen as soon as I clicked on my character.. this then happened a further 3 times before I decided to re-log my user on my Mac. this then fixed the initial crashing, but I suffered FPS drops and a few times I was hit by lag which caused the client to freeze for about 20 seconds.
This then brings up the question: did the patch actually do anything? the patch before last made no difference at all. I am running on a (white) iMac 2.16Ghz with the ATI x1600 gfx card.

Game is still practically unplayable on a mac. Used to running two clients no problem, now i cant even run one, even with this "fix".

The new patch makes EVE extremely laggy for me. I had to check against my Windows Vista laptop - it's working fine (in Premium Graphics too), but the Mac client has somewhere between 1 to 2 seconds more lag than the Vista laptop.

1. Open Finder 2. Hit shift-apple-G 3. Type: ~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/ 4. Open the config file 5. Find the GLSL line and change the value from "Y" to "M"
Since following these steps my client has stopped crashing.

The change you quoted is related to the in-station graphics problems someone is having. Using mixed mode for the shader language should fix those. But it does not fix the illegal address that is dereferenced during a cursor deallocation (part of defining a new cursor) when switching to another app and back.
However, if you get the client to crash while in fullscreen and without switching out and back, we would all like to have a report about it. Browse this thread an look for both the info needed to generate an activity log from the Cedega layer (it's a post by Casqade) and the ones to set the crash reporter to "Developer" mode, so that you can post a stack trace of the moment the client crashes (it's a post by Qordel).

Heh, I hadn't encountered the bugged station interior until this patch.
All I see are the station interior's lights, my ship and maybe a few stray polygons.
Oh yeah, and 15 fps.

Im running Eve on MacPro 3GHz, 6 Gb RAM, Radeon X1900, Mac OS X 10.5.4
I eventually upgraded to 10.5.5 BEFORE this special Eve patch was around. So i have seen the map bugs und the horrific station grafics. With a little effort i downgraded to 10.5.4 and Eve ran again fine.
Now the Mac patch installed (on 10.5.4) gave me: smooth, stable fps - which where before quite bumpy, spiky AND 15-20 fps more (!) than I had before. This is nice.
The drawback: while i disconnected "before" any 3-4 hrs (client crash - with subsequent total reboot) i get disconnects now with the patch on a "more regularly" base: not before 1hr - not later then 2 hrs. I m playing now with a r/l timer as "failsafe", avoid "encounters" after 1 hr of playing und safely quit and restart eve every 2 hrs.
Aye - 1st time that i got automated updated installed patched. very nice (which was before only an option after starting eve or sometimes even manually).
Thanks

At the moment mac users are dominating the markets! Why? Because that's the only thing WE CAN DO! Update those orders! But hey, trade is a part of eve though.

I understand the frustration, but gathering debut data isn't the same thing as doing their work for them. If they are unable to reproduce the problem, they can't fix the problem. So they have to rely on people who CAN reproduce the problem to gather data on their behalf and then they can analyze that and make necessary fixes.
That said, with the number of people having very common problems since the patch, it seems difficult to believe that however many CCP people use OSX somehow have not at all encountered these routine problems on their own machines. These really don't seem like obscure issues.
I haven't seen any updates to the "crashes in windowed mode" bug in several days, so I can only presume they're working on that. I guess we'll see if there are any updates in the next few days. Or at least a confirmatin of a potential fix. Or... anything... at all...

2006 Macbook Pro 2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo, 2G ram, X1600 128Mb:
Definitely lower framerate in stations. For the most part, a bit lower framerate anywhere really. It's still playable tho.
I have a multichannel firewire audio interface hooked to the computer. If that is set as default soundcard, Eve audio only plays in the right (R) channel. Then after a while the soundcard is in a bit of a state.
I am suspecting this new Cider build in actually making my system more unstable as a whole, as after installing this patch I've had to reboot more often. In any case I am careful to have default (internal) audio on.
I still can't understand why the computer fans go 6000 rpm even though everything is static and I'm, say, just browsing the market.
Overall - this build did not change anything for me. Only introduced FUD into my otherwise fine system.

Believe it or not, the way the client works makes being docked to a station much heavier on the GPU than flying in space. I unchecked "load station environment" because of that.

Have any of you noticed that Casqade hasn't posted anything lately :P I guess either he's busy or is having a mental break down from us Mac users.

Any news about the Problem - when can we expect a solution - so that i can play again? I hard to play atm because of the crash when you click from one Windows into EvE.

/me hopes you checked the first page of this thread or my 'can we have a roll back' thread, since CCP Casqade did deliver a roll back option in there.....

Edited by: Falbyla on 31/10/2008 21:03:00 I kept crashing, it got better with the modification to the config file, and I just crashed during the first battle. Twice ffs, and lost my ship and got podded. :(
I downloaded the older version, as the new one doesn't even let me roll back the patch.
Horrendous.
Edit: Petitioned it, let's see if they really acknowledge this as being a problem for us Mac players. The only thing I can safely do is orbit the station.
