(Sorry for the bad English, not a native speaker)
My Stiletto got finally delivered. I equipped it and went out to insecure space. I wanted to test the ship and the setup.
One solar system before my destination I noticed a pilot. The global database gave me some basic information about this pilot, it was male Serbiestor called Cazaril from the STK Scientific corp, a Xetic alliance mega corp. He seemed to be a junior memeber of the corp.
I took a look at the fine sensor systems of my Stiletto. There were two ships in scanner range, one Iteron Mark IV and one Tempest. The Tempest has been in the scanner results before and I didn't bother about it, I assumed that Carazil would be in the Iteron Mark IV.
An industrial class ship. Alone. In deep space. With no CONCORD and sentry guns protecting it.
Adrenaline went through my veins. My natural reflexes and the routine told me to check the global map. I had to make sure from what direction the vessel came. Regarding to the map it came from south. There were two gates in the solar system, I headed for the northern one.
I was there short after him. He was close to the jump gate, closer than I'd like to have him, so I decided to not enage. I activated my microwarp drive and outran him easily. The long training in navigation techniques and the new tech level 2 microwarp drive finally paid off. I took a close look at the ship while passing him at 4km per second. He seemed to be unarmed. And he seemed to not bother about my appearance.
I decided to wait.
He jumped through the gate. I followed immidiatly. I saw him uncloaking, hit my microwarp drive again, direction: Iteron Mark IV. I tried to lock him. I didn't succeed, he warped off to the next jump gate on his route.
I was in rage. First I blamed my targeting computer, but then I realized how fast the Iteron Mark IV aligned into warp. Way too fast for an industrial class ship. Was it me? Are my reflexes becoming weaker as I become older? I decided to ingore my doubts, programmed my navigation computer for the same jump gate as the Iteron Mark IV went to and activated warp navigation.
While being in warp I made a quick calculation. I knew that my Stiletto was traveling faster than his Iteron Mark IV in warp. So even if he warped away before me, chances were good to catch up. What if he got some instant jump book marks from his cartographer?
There was no time to give me this answer. I was coming out of warp. Right behind him. Jackpot!
I decided to orbit the vessel at 500m, the optimal weapon range of my 150mm Light Carbine Repeating Cannons, loaded with deadly EMP S ammo. I activated my Fleeting Proplusion Inhibitor I and my Faint Epsilon Warp Prohibitor I. Using the guns and the Small Plasma Smartbomb II it took my Stiletto around 90 seconds to destory the vessel. I made a mental note to get me better guns and to work on my gunnery techniques. The pilot was not using any offensive or defensive modules at all. That suprised me a bit.
While the ship has been exploding the escape pod launched. The targeting computer of the Stiletto was fast. I took me a breath to lock up the escape pod and dispatch it. The result was a male Serbiestor in space. Deeply frozen.
Frustration. I didn't see any wrackage of the ship or parts of the cargo around my vessel. I decided to use my scanner, entered 10 km scan range and there it was: a cargo container and a frozen corpse. I decided to approach the cargo container and kept an eye open on the map/solar system scanners, just in case. I checked the content of the floating cargo container.
I was speechless.
What I saw was 22099 Megacyte, 23627 Zydrine and some modules.
I decided to haul the minerals and modules in a few runs to a safe spot in the same solar system and contacted a corp buddy of mine to bring a fast Industrial class ship to my position. I asked him also to make sure to use instant jump bookmarks, I knew that Corp 1 has used a cartographer for the area I was in.
Some hours later I was around 235 million ISK richer.
I contacted my dealer and ordered an Improved Cloaking Device II. -- Stories: #1 --

1. You're one lucky pirate.
2. It's things like that which make piracy so appealing.
3. Anyone in dangerous space in an unarmed, unescorted, heavy-load indie deserves what they get get.
4. Can I have some isk?
I keep a teddy bear in my pod with me. A teddy bear with sharp teeth, massive claws, and a pinache for eating the flesh of podded corpses. I call him "Fuzzy". |

Very nice kill.
Amazing that anyone would haul that many high-ends in an indy, when a battleship would easily hold them. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

Edited by: Gyrn Fzirth on 29/06/2004 00:44:37 NICE! Good, true pirating from ya, Sally.
Me and some corpmates were camping in E02-IK a while back - nailed a CA Vexor cruiser with 37,000 megacyte in it. The guy's pod got away, but I found his corpse at the next gate. Apparently he was so distraught he self-destructed his capsule in penance :)

Why do people move around 100s of Millions of Isk worth of minerals through insecure space in an indy practically AFK (or at least not paying attention to the pirate following them)? and if they are that totally stupid, because you have to be to do that, how the hell did they get the money in the first place? -------------------------------------------

Buying a cloaking device will pay it self up in a very short time if its used right, and I¦m sure as hell that Sally wont be mistreating it so its an investment for him that will gain back multiple times the cost of the module. Spawn of the Devil
