yay, it very well overall, it takes a minute to setup for each ship and when using lasers you have to unload --> then reload but it still rocks, and you get whacky condensed damage messages like this ..
Combat Your group of Mega Pulse Laser II is well aimed at xxxxx inflicting 2961.9 damage. |

Love it too! Go CCP!
Also, its a lot easier to keep track of the Combat Messages if they're condensed.
And it gives you a much better idea at the average damage your inflict. From the group-damage messages it should now be immediately visible when tracking/falloff starts to be a problem. |

One question to people that have used it on sisi.
How does heat work?
I know for a fact that when overloading a rack of guns they dont all take heat damage at the smae time. Even if its just a full rack of guns with no empty slots and no heat-sink modules the heat distribution is not even. That being the case, with the guns all grouped together into one icon how the hell are you supposed to keep an eye out for the one rogue gun that wants to burn itself out 30 seconds before the rest of the group?

Haven't used it with heat myself, but apparently all guns take equal damage from heat.
So that means all your guns burn out at the same time, no worrying there. ________________________________ All your honey are belong to us! |

That won't really be all that different from me since my nightmare wrecks for upwards of 1900 damage. |

1) unload all ammo 2) little white triangle -> "enter grouping mode" 3) drag & drop all the modules to the one you want to activate with only one button (eg F1)
note: must be same type and meta level to be able to drag+drop

I was mucking around with this and wanted to know some things..
Is it ever at all possible to see "your group of railgun II's perfectly strikes nobcheese, wrecking for 2354235 dmg" ?
If so, then every gun would need to get a perfect hit. If not then we dont get to see that lovely message anymore :S
The only way i can guess it may work, is that it may take the average for the gun damages, and if the average is near perfect it will say "perfectly strikes" etc EVE history

I was in a roaming gang last night and something that we noticed was that some people were suffering from horrible client lag whenever changing sessions (i.e. systems jumps, undocks). After a while, we realized that everyone who was suffering from the problem had their weapons grouped. After they ungrouped their weapons, all of the extra lag went away.
Not everyone who was grouping their weapons was experiencing this, but everyone who was experiencing this had their weapons grouped. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

About heat, do all the weapons in that one group take equal damage or all the high rack weapons? I mean, if I've got 6 guns, grouped together, and have 2 offline modules in the remaining 2 slots, does the heat spread equally among ALL high slot modules, or does it spread equally among that 1 group and the off-lined items take different heat damage?

Hes more explaining that: Lag was experienced by and limited to "goupers", but lag was not a certainty, and lag-free gouping exists rather than: Lag was experienced by and limited to "groupers" EVE history

Edited by: Rod Pliskin on 12/11/2008 17:42:58 I'm curious, and haven't experienced this yet so I don't know... but what happens if a turret runs out of ammo (missiles, crystals, etc) and you don't have any more in your cargo? Does it automatically split that empty turret from the group to show you?
Also, here's a tip if you haven't tried this yet. You can group turrets in stations in the fitting window. Unload the ammo and shift drag turrets over one slot. You will see "Group 1" appear under the turrets.

Like if you have 5 guns that each needs 100 ammo, so 500 ammo total. But you only have like 450 in your cargo?
I'm gonna assume it will just put 90 ammo in each gun, instead of 100 in 4 and only 50 in one. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

That makes sense for guns that use a stack of ammo, but I wonder about laser crystals... when one burns out and you don't have anymore in your cargo, what does it show?

CCP stated somewhere that crystals in a weapon group will have the damage spread accross all of them equally.
So if there is a 10% chance to do .1 damage to a crystal in 1 gun, there will be a 10% chance to do .02 damage to the crystals in a group of 5 guns.
Or something like that. It was either in the devblog thread or in the Game development forums somewhere. Can't remember Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

I have hit at 3333 damage with my nightmare from one gun before this change. So I am curious what 4 will do at the same time.

Thanks Last Wolf, that does clear one part of my question up. I wonder though, say I have 4 guns with 4 Scorch and each crystal has a different damage amount. I group them together and when I mouse over the group it shows one damage number. So can I assume that the system will spread the damage out to each crystal depending on how much damage it already has so that all 4 guns run out at the same time? Meaning more damage will hit the crystals with less damage etc.
I'm sure CCP has thought of all this, but I haven't really seen a really good explanation of how this is handled anywhere.

yes, if you load damaged crystals in it will just average them out across all crystals. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

Is it possible to have a weapon grouped and ungrouped? Lets say I want 1 button to fire all the weapons at once and still have icons for individual control of them?

not that I'm aware of.
Weapon grouping isn't just a UI change, it is a game mechanic change. Instead of shooting 6 guns with 1 button, you're shooting 1 gun with 1 button that does the damage of 6 guns.
they over complicated things again me thinks. Though supposedly this will reduce server lag, so they did it this way instead of just a simple hot-key for "Fire all guns" Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |
