Why? It's supposed to be between a hauler and a freighter, which means that it won't exactly be fast. And salvage does'nt take much space either, it's the normal loot that does. ---

with that much tractor range it dont need to be fast^^ and this mean that i will aculy bother to loot/salvage the dron missions and such. it also mean that you can bother picking up T1 un named loot and just not best named

That's true but would'nt it still be faster with your BC/destroyer considering the fact that your setup only has a single tractor beam?
T1 unnamed loot is usually worth squat anyways. ---

Kronos fully fitted as a salvager takes some beating. I know your going moan at me for using one but I like my salvaging Kronos as it does salvaging a lot better than anything else I know. |

Not in missions where the rat BS wrecks are strewn about in a 30-50 km radius about the spawn point. The Orca tractors reach out to 50km, and bring in stuff twice as fast as normal tractors, so that would actually work. In my Salvagecane it takes me a while to run around after all these wrecks even with a BS AB, so that takes considerable time. The Orca may do that better without moving, but it remains to be seen. Still, it's a novel concept, and I've considered it as well. I don't think it'll be worth experimenting with it until prices on the Orca come down from the initial release mark-up.

Not exactly. I net on average 6,000 ISK/m3 from T1 unnamed loot. It adds up. |

I agree 100%. I can tank 100% aggro, do almost 400 m/s, and run 4 tractors / 3 salvagers. It's hard to beat as a looting ship.

I use a second Golem but its all the same,
I really don't see the Orca being used as a salvage ship.

Not enough highs. Need a dessie alt or something for maximum efficiency. Just fit a full rack of tractor beams on the Orca. Good for level 5's.

It's a thought but only 2 salvagers on the thing will make salvaging take ages. In my salvage dessie (with mwd) the limiting factor on salvage speed is not the speed of the ship or tractors, it's the fact that it only has 4 salvagers on it. To be fair, it has no salvage rigs, suppose I should change that, would make it go faster. I do see the orca being useful for drone missions where it's the loot that's valuable, not the salvage. In which case I'd slap 3 tractors on it and forgo actually salvaging.

7 tractors, drag everything in a 40 km range to the same spot loot them and come back in a dessy or dictor fitted for salvaging. Best investment I have made equipment-wise. -----------------------------------------------

Depending on what the limits are for what can go in the ship bay you could always put in a salvage destroyer in there, use the orca to collect all the wrecks and loot them, then switch to the destroyer to salvage them.
Of course that'd really work well if you had an alt to fly one, but then in that case why bother using the ship bay at all?
Any rate, if I were to use it like that, which I likely wouldn't, I'd just slap on 3 tractor beams and use an alt in a destroyer or something to salvage stuff.
Of course since right now I tag-team missions with whatever my main flies plus an alt in a salvage typhoon I really don't need an orca. |

Edited by: Andrue on 24/10/2008 19:22:45 Edited by: Andrue on 24/10/2008 19:22:33 There's no point in the greater tractor range.
Most wrecks end up within 40km of my loot ship anyway. I run missions in a Nighthawk then come back with my Golem to loot. 4 tractors, 3 salvagers. 3,500m3 cargo.
I typically loot the Extravaganzas in less than twenty minutes. |
