To crush their ego. Bring out their emotional fire. Temper that anger into a humble state in which they can learn, grow, and balance out logic with wisdom.

Adrenaline flow nowadays largely depends on EVE PVP for me. -----------

Why does it motivate....an intire text could be devoted to the complete answer...but perhaps a better question is this: does it motivate you to quite or succeed? |

In the beginning PvP used to P me O. Everytime I'd try it I'd get popped very fast or blobbed upon. So I carebeared.
After some time I was ready to cancel EvE due to it's boredom factor. PvE was unimaginative and repetitive.
As a departing crazy-play I decided to go waste all my assets. So I load up the 'cane, fitted it according to the most thumbs-up "solo-PvP" fit I found on that website that shows you different fittings, (I forget the name of the site) rigged it, and headed out for lowsec.
As I'm roaming lowsec I come across a lone frigate near a gate. I start moving away from the gate and it's guns, he follows just skirting my max lock range. I knew he was calling his friends.
So I wait. Then it comes, another frig, two cruisers and a BC. The attack ensues.
"Yay, first ship to be gone in a few seconds then on to get the next suicidal ship to do it all over again." I think.
Wait. I'm not dying as quickly as I thought I would! That first frig I was able to double web and paint is melting extremely quick! OMG! I popped him! "Quick, chose another target and start firing!" I'm saying out-load to myself, adrenaline pumping.
The second frig saw the webs and moved to outside 10k to avoid the webs. The BC I think would be tanked to much so I lock a cruiser. "Pop" he goes also! \o/ OMG! This is FUN!
Oh crud! I'm melting! I hit "warp" as a panic response and low and behold I warped! I guess someone forgot to point me or only the dead ships had points. Wait! I didn't want to leave this fight! Warp back warp back.
When I got back to the battlefield only the BC was there. Lock and attack. Battle ensues again. I'm winning! He's at 1/2 armor and I'm at approx. 1/4 shields. "I'm gonna get another one!" I think.
Then his friends return. This time it's two cruisers and a frig.
It was all over in about 2-3 minutes with me escaping in my pod.
That was about 6-7 months ago. That's what kept me in EvE and motivates me to PvP whenever the opportunity presents it's self.

PVP is a rush, win or lose. Especially the close fights where the outcome can't be predicted 2 seconds into the fight. I lose a lot. I don't care, I'm still learning. I enjoy the experience of "What if?" Even slightly handicapped by an unavoidably laggy internet connection, I love to engage...hopefully more and more intelligently and skillfully over time. Besides, losing makes the wins that much sweeter.

I completely agree. Though I prefer to win.

Edited by: Wrayeth on 28/10/2008 01:23:46 The rush. There's nothing in any other game that gets your adrenaline pumping like engaging outnumbered and outgunned while flying an expensive, powerful ship.
P.S. That it's possible to win a fight in such circumstances might have something to do with EVE PvP kicking ass, too... |

All war must be just the killing of strangers against whom you feel no personal animosity; strangers whom, in other circumstances, you would help if you found them in trouble, and who would help you if you needed it. |

in time you elevate to a level where you no longer care about the ingame items and you dont see them as a item of value. the only thing of value to you is that you get a rush out of doing a fight with another player.

So maybe you died.. its only isk, whats the point in having isk if you don't blow it up.
With regard to pvp, first you learn to die, then you learn to not die, then you learn to kill. It's just the way it goes.
