What's this thing I've read about this setup?
Is this any good for missions? Or is it for PVP?

I found a Battleclinic Loadout in EVEMon titled "Dominix: Passive shield tanked domi".
With this setup in EFT (assuming all level V), it said that it had 843 defense.
That seems kinda high, but is there a catch?

Just because it can be done, it doesn't mean it should be. Shield Dominix = crap for any purpose.

Thanks to being able to equip 7 shield power relays in low slots the dominix does indeed get a huge passive shield tank. Its definitely not for pvp. The catch for it is you will have almost no cap recharge at all, so if you are going to use guns they need to be projectiles.

Trick with Passive shield dommi is to have a gun or two to get aggro and fill up with drone link aug. to give drone's good range..

The catch of that huge-tank Domi is that you go full tank with your only damage source being drone (or have to fit projectiles since your cap recharge is shot to pieces). It's pretty crappy for anything but PvE, but it's quite decent for half-AFK PvE.
Variants using a mix of power diags instead of some (or all) SPRs can be used, preferably shield extend rigs instead of purgers and coupled with neuts and blasters... well, that can make a decent PvP setup too. Not great, but decent enough.

That seems kind of counter-intuitive. If you are going to run far away out of range, what't the purpose of maximizing your tank?

It can be done, but it isn't nearly as effective as an armor-tanked Dominix. ------------
Improvize. Adapt. Overcome.
Selling Gallente, Minmatar and SoE faction goodies (including Virtue implants).
I am looking for a good 0.0 corp/alliance. Convo if interested. |

Who said anything about running away ? But if you're sporting wardens/bouncers, it's nice to snipe small stuff 70-85 km away while they start approaching.

Pve Domi's don't use guns much other than drawing aggro (crap powergrid, only one bonus to large guns, madium guns work but have crap range and no bonuses). Shield tank works fine since your drones do the work.
I'd still armour tank my Domi... more effective tank and a few more options to play with (even a couple of guns every now and again for dps and lols).
Most people will knee-jerk reject shield tanking anything Gallente. Take them with a liberal dash of salt. They're wrong sometimes.
Oh, and paging Pottsey to the thread.

Edited by: Clair Bear on 28/10/2008 02:44:39 It's not a horrible setup vs. angels. You can even fit a cap booster and bring some 800s to run your guns with and still have plenty of tnak left over.
Still, active setups (shield or armor) are 1337% better in every way.
Oh, and you can fit 250mm duals x 6 if you don't try and squeeze 2x LARs on. Works like a charm.

Edited by: Pottsey on 31/10/2008 10:04:27 One of my favourite fittings is below; it's almost 1000dps with navy ammo up to 60km with drones.
Highs x6, 425mm Railguns T2
Mids x2 Invulnerability field T2 (though you're better swapping to single hardeners) x3 Shield Exnteders T2
Lows x1 RCU T2 x3 PDS x3 Damage mods
Rigs x3 purgers T2.
Alternatively change the lows to x6 PDS and x1 SPR for more tank.

Just been working on this setup for group work. If someone else is tanking then fit below. Your have next to know tank, but just enough tank to deal with any odd gruops that do aggro you.
High x6, 425mm Railguns T2
Mids x1 Invulnerability field T2 x1 shield recharger x3 Omni Tracking link (or perhaps x2 and 1 turret racking link)
Lows x5 PDS x2 Damage mods
Rigs x2 Sentry Damage Aug T1

Dual LAR2 domi is good enough or if you want to go extreme the TRIPLE WHOPPER!
