I would so cancel my account if they made me look at THAT every time I undocked.
But give me an option to turn off the obnoxious and ridiculously bright background pictures and then they can do whatever the hell they want with them.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

The "real" nebula looks like a Jackson Pollack painting. That would be unpleasant to constantly look at for hours at a time in-game.

Mmmm, let me say it again, in case some of you don't get it: emission nebulae have color, specially red, but also blue and green. And it can be seen with the naked eye. No need to Photoshop to see colorful nebulae. Orion nebula (M42) is very colorful (of course, if you take the picture with IR and UV equipment, the picture will be more spectacular.)

I remember a rather long thread a year or so ago with many asking for a setting to disable nebula display. Too bright, too much color after a while.

To the OP.
I do think the look of space in Eve could be improved (really hope that the next expansion will have that covered... at least a bit  ) but I really hope and cant imagine they would make it like that.

A while back there was a graphics bug in eve where (not 100% sure on the details) if you jumped with the map open or something similar it would stop showing the background art.
Before that bug was fixed it became very popular because many though it actually looked better. There was even a feature request to make it an option to turn off the background but ccp said no and fixed the bug.
So the moral of the story is that not everyone wants a colorful background, even if it happens to be realistic.

IIRC, NASA doesn't photoshop their images. They take the pictures using various filters so that we see how they look like in the xray/ultraviolet/infrared/radio light spectrum. So they really DO look like that, it's just that we humans wouldn't see it like that because our cornea is opaque to those frequencies of light (to protect the retina from damaging wavelengths of light.

You have to remember that those hubble pics are actually "touched up". The change certain colours to give more contrast between different layers of gases.

That's only if you are in the "suburbs" of a galaxy, in the outer part, like our solar system. But as you get closer to the center, the light from ionised clouds of gas become more frequent (in a spiral galaxy, which make the 70% of galaxies known.)
Also, a galaxy could be "near" a nebula, and the gas clouds could be visible as in Eve.

Like many NASA photos of outer space, your 'real' photo is artificially colored and is far from what an actual nebula looks like (at least in terms of color).
pretty much sums it up, and some nebula "photos" are not made with just the visible light spectrum or made with a long exposure, or both. Yeah you can see them but I highly doubt to the degree you see them in eve in every system.
If anything there should be less nebula.

It would be much better if the backgrounds (and the bloody awful deadspace nebulae) were LESS bright!
As it is, they make it difficult at times to see whether a module is active or not.
Buy a 21" widescreen and play in widescreen mode. Looks so pretty I don't even need to blow things up.

Actually I wish they would make space darker. Sometimes it is difficult to see if you modules are activated because of the light background.
